One of my colleague wants to join the club. He has a santafe AWD, will that suit the prerequisites of a newbie drive ?

As far as your colleague Santa FE has 8-10 inches of ground clearance along with front and back tow hooks, he will be fine to join any newbie drives.

* Any prior offroad experience ?

* Are the towhooks on the front and back available and in good condition ?

-Driven once on sand but very basic

-Towhooks are fine for front and back. (I hope it will not be used hehehe)

Front & Back hooks are available & having casual experience of off road driving on sand.
