the folders and nesting of folders in gaiagps could not be done any worse in my opinion. absolutely horrible interface on android devices.

@Frederic whats the mapping situation like in caltopo... should i consider moving now before it becomes ultra unmanagable?

But why not create 1 main folder, where to move all inner folders etc, and after that to share that main new folder?  but this I did on laptop, and it was easy to manage

The problem is sometimes when you import a gpx file from someone else that GaiaGps automatically creates a new folder for it. It’s just annoying to manage and yes it should be definitely done from laptop. I’m a bit OCD so managing thousands of waypoints and hundreds of tracks and routes some times does my head in.

@Luke K P CalTopo works differently. It stems from the time that hikers would create maps, mark waypoints, and then print them in big format. This function is still there but nowadays you can use CalTopo with different folders where each “project” can be stored separately. For example you create a map called “Dubai” and store all your Dubai related waypoints and tracks in there. A bit difficult to explain but the user interface is also much faster than Gaia.

The mobile app of CalTopo is not yet up the mark. So many people use CalTopo for planning and archiving tracks, and Gaia for the mobile app while in the field.

When I exporting from Garmin Explore, first I creat in Garmin collection, where I add all waypoints and track, giving the name onwant, and then share the collection, so it's imported in gaia as 1 folder with same name, inside which is track gpx and waypoints

  • 4 months later...

I had the Gaia subscription that expired in Feb. While on the website I have lost access to the premium maps - i.e. Satellite Maps - on the phone where I would need it is still working without any issue. I am wondering if it is a bug or a feature 🤔.

don't drive like its your last one.

Unless the subscription automatically renewed ?

I'm afraid if you do a logout and login, you will be losing the features. For me after the subscription ended the Satellite maps disappeared.

So, a bug. I will avoid logging out and drag it as long as I can. The issue is that I cannot take screen shots for drive posts - I will live with it.

Have a look at Backtrack: Maps for Backcountry Adventures. if you are an Iphone user. I am in touch with the developer and he is updating the app based on some of my feedback. There are still pending updates such as showing the track while recording, and many other small things, but with some time and dedication i believe this app can become a serious competitor for Gaia.

Thank you @Frederic. With your valuable feedback I am sure it is going to do great.
