2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser review

Recommended Posts

How can you forget the Toyota FJ Cruiser once you’ve seen one?

This compact SUV boasts some highly funky and retro looks that ensure it stands out on the road of the Middle East. Or rather, it would if there weren’t so many of them. The snappy visuals, combined with a reputation for decent off-road performance, have made the FJ a popular model for Toyota in the region.

The FJ is based on the same platform used for the previous generation of Land Cruiser Prado, making it larger than the RAV4 and giving it room to seat five.

Three versions of the FJ Cruiser are available (in the UAE), all with the same 4.0-litre V6 engine, which produces a not-too-shabby 270bhp and powers all four wheels through a five-speed automatic gearbox.

The entry-level FJ comes equipped with waterproof fabric and PVC-upholstered seats, to reinforce its off-road image. Whether anyone will actually hose down the interior after use is debatable, but it’s nice to know that you could. Also included is a six CD changer, electric windows and dual front airbags as well as cruise control, a chrome grille and VSC (electronic stability control).

The top-level FJ adds more chrome details to the exterior and a sportier steering wheel inside. Rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera are also included, while extra safety features include traction control and side curtain airbags.

Many owners like to modify their FJ, so for 2010 Toyota launched a special edition model that saves them the effort. The FJ Stealth comes with matte black paint and black alloy wheels, as well as a carbon-fibre effect dash, extra headlights and roof rack. Darth Vader on wheels, anyone?
