What I think is way worse than sharing information on WhatsApp is when someone posts a question on a forum, gets advice, then doesn’t come back to update what happened in the end. I’ve seen myself trawling through forum threads to find hundreds of possible answers but nothing definitive. Eat and leave seems to be the order of the day for a lot of people.

Time has come to explore Abu Dhabi's desert UMM AL OASH. This will be a long drive about 2:00+ hrs from Dubai via E311 before we reach there, and followed by another few kilometers to reach the bottom of huge set of dunes. This area offers huge massive dunes and bowls to play. Once on top they are fun to drive as all big dunes are inter-connected and offer broad ridge to ride. We will be targeting an specific section of dunes for which convey will move 35 to 40kms on dirt track before we attack those dunes. It is recommended to carry extra fuel (20L of jerry can) Level of drive: Intermediate ++ (This drive is intermediate and above level ONLY so please signup on your off-road ranking) Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Ensure your 4x4 is is in perfect condition and spare tyre in good condition. Carry all off road gears, recovery equipment, radio and flag. What to bring along: Snacks, quick meal, whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Yes, jap imports are a great choice unlike US imports, I know tons and tons of people who have bought all sorts of jap imports, including mercs and never had any issues , just make sure its a fresh import and not registered in the UAE before. Jap imports are not damaged or insurance write offs like US imports and usually very well taken care off, low mileage and go through a very strict auction process in Japan. You can learn to decode the jap auction sheet and most sellers have it, so you can ask to see it. This site use to deal strictly with the jap import market behind Al Aweer used car complex but now it has a few private sellers mixed in so don't assume all are jap imports, but majority still are. So can be a bit weird to navigate through menus and all. My dad bought a jap import Cadillac STS and all electronic displays were in japanese ( Trip meter, fuel consumption etc etc ) but he eventually had it changed by just getting someone to change the language via a diagnostic computer. He bought it at around 45k kms and drove it almost 300k kms before it sold it. So stop looking for crappy jap eco boxes and get something decent.

I hail from the age when parking in UAE was free, pinches to dish out 2 per hour. 10 per hour is not a solution.

I have seen a Prado 2008 model with 700k on the clock. All the owner does is get maintenance at regular intervals and doesn't want to sell it. It's a work horse.

@Sidshk good choice. Toyota Prado is a very capable car with minimum options and one of the reason it never gives you trouble. Toyota reliability. Just the normal things to check like engine, gearbox and chassis. Being an old car it will give you some repair cost, but Toyota is easy and cheap to maintain. Just change all the oils, plugs wire sets, just to be on the safe side. Happy buying.
