Drive Report Waking up early can be painful, and summer drives can be brutal. That's why some of us decided to stay in the area overnight so we could arrive well rested. Once the weather finally cools down we will be able to camp again and that's something i am really looking forward too. With a convoy mix of relatively new Fewbie plussers, and very experienced drivers, we set off to the large dunes located north of the camel race track. This area is not spoilt by crosstracks so we could hop from one bowl to another and rev our engines to our heart's desire. And so we did ! Some small refusals that were easily dealt with, and a pop-out that took slightly longer as the balancing weight was causing the tire rim not to close properly, gave us some rest to chit-chat and socialize. Little by little the temperatures were rising so we kept moving where we could, and to keep ourselves and our engines cool. While i have been in this area before, this time i kept finding more and more nice dunes with large climbs, drops, and wonderful ridges to throw our cars over The convoy behind me took it all with pleasure and the fresh Fewbie Plussers amongst you drove superbly ! @Mohit Gurnani you felt you'd be having a bad day, but you drove amazing this morning. The pop-out in your case could have happened to anyone so no need to worry about that one. @FERNANDO SYRIO you had to push the pedal to the metal and you did ! The Fortuner flew through every obstacle and your big smile said enough well done my friend ! @Santoso Marjuki you were the most perfect second lead, smile from ear to ear but yet always focused and ready to help out. Thank you so much ! @Hugo i absolutely love your FJ and attitude ! well done buddy ! @Amr Aydin feels home at any place in the convoy and lays his tracks marvelously! Good to see you back my friend. @Mario Cornejoand @Zed got the freedom at the back to find their own tracks and with that combined experience i am sure you guys had good fun ! We exited at the well-known Sweihan underpass, and while inflating i was thinking about doing a drive from Al Hayer (Dubai-Al ain Road, all the way to the Telal Resort from where we started. That would takes us through both Sweihan and Remah area. What do you guys think ? Will start planning for it as soon as the weather cools down a bit. See you all in the sand again !8 points

Dear Friends I was so delighted meeting you all this morning seeing how much all of you were looking forward as well as i was too. I hope you lived your expactation. .. we started immediately tackling the mountain big red along its ramifications from all directions , and on top not leaving almost a single pit or dip negotiating it tightly at times. .. bouncing to the neighbour mountain attacking every slip curve switching back and forth till the back of pink rock taking the third bounce further north west where at top we had a proper picture break. the view reminded of the movie " close encounters of the third kind " 👽 .. crossing the camel rock and louping around the crocodile rock back to big red to just find what the wind did to our tracks on top almost gone and new crests reformed which increased the challange to crisscross it and that was just an immense fun. For the whole drive No ropes nor shovells came out and the couple of refusals we encountered was beatifully self recovered. @Benjamin you rocked man and thanks of correcting my slips in such high speed. briliant focus and driving as well . @Gary F considering its your first IM drive you managed the LWB sandrunner like a pro . and your self recovery on the top was impressive . well done . @Krishna R fantastic drive as usual keep it up. @Sunil Mathew and @Amir Amiri didnt hear you almost at all on the radio which says it all in the back , perfect driving. @Jaro Tuzinsky Thanks for sweeping us all in this windy day . you drove flawlessly as well. all and all i loved the day the action the drive and on top of all the accompany with such fine peaple like you guys. we all did it safely with big smiles at the end. till we meet take care and see you soon. Patrol mission accomplished: 104 Km covered in 5:31 hours, of which just over 4 hours moving. Areas patrolled: Qudra's Western quadrant, Ghantoot North of the barracks, Southern fence of the shooting polygon, Little Sweihan Souther edge and Solar Park Southern border The first hour driven in 2 wheel drive (fun but challenging) with increasingly soft sand, to the point of halting almost all progress from noon onwards. Valorous patrol team, good spirits, and most of all great patience and endurance by the entire crew. @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke - Major Vladimir 'Popski' Peniakoff - Demolition Team @Faraz94 - Captain Michael Crichton-Stuart, Combat Unit G @Johannes Roux - Major Kenneth Henry Lazarus, Rhodesian Squad @Ben Lee - Captain Edward 'Teddy' Cecil Mitford, Combat Unit W @Richard Franks - Captain Patrick Clayton, Combat Unit T @Alphin Aloor - Captain Travers John Durrant Birdwood, Combat Unit P @Bjoern - Captain Donald Gavin Steele, Support Unit R Enjoy a good rest and recuperation before the next mission.5 points

Well done every one, amazing drive enjoyed personally and I hope all of you. All arrived on time, briefing and started the adventure. Mahafiz was full of plants and bushes, with nice small bowls, and all managed to cross all of them without any issue. We stoped opposite fossil rock, for around 10 minutes, and took our way to faya smooth soft dunes, and again all managed very well. Except one crest, managed by @Mohamad Anwer and @Ahmad Nerat in no time, thanks for the same. The last one as usual, faya big dune, which all managed to reach the top, except the old lay of @Ben Williams, which is fully understandable, little more training, vitamins, and exercises, and she will be good to go. Great to see you again @Naim Aoun and hope to see you more. @Cha congratulations on your new pajero toy, and thank you for being SL today. @Abhilash Kottakkal you did very well, unfortunately tires did not help you much, but all good. @Issam Atra you did very well with your old lady, no issues. @Srilakshman Karthikeyan @Abdelghani well done. @Ahmad Nerat thank you very much for sweeping today, and great support from @Mohamad Anwer in the centre today. Thank you all for joining and making the drive good, and look forward to see you soon in sand. Nice week end5 points

First Night Desert drive I was kind of skeptical at the start as it was my 3rd drive in the desert and that too at night, but excited at the same time. As a newbie, I knew that I would have few refusals but @Chaitanya D and @Simon D because of your guidance and experience every obstacle was crossed easily. @Waqar Sarwarthank you for being such a great second lead there were places where I was totally dependent on your tracks. It was great meeting @Arravind and @Xavi Moyano again. Thanks to the whole team Thanks to the core team for motivating us.😊 Got to learn a few new things in this drive like how to repair a partial pop-out tire, how to dig in the right way, and how to pull a car if it's stuck.4 points

Dear Patrols. As you have seen, tomorrow's rendezvous has been selected and shared. It is easily accessible from the Qudra's gas station, as you exit it toward the round-about, you may see it on your left. Do start deflating as soon as you reach the location. We will launch the patrol from Qudra through the western quadrant of this area, likely all the way down to Ghantoot, then across to Little Sweihan, and eventually to Faqa through sabkhas and long-range dunes. We aim to keep an average speed of 25Km/h, to complete the patrol within 4 hours. The lineup will be follows: @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke - Major Vladimir 'Popski' Peniakoff - Demolition Team @Faraz94 - Captain Michael Crichton-Stuart, Combat Unit G @Johannes Roux - Major Kenneth Henry Lazarus, Rhodesian Squad @Ben Lee - Captain Edward 'Teddy' Cecil Mitford, Combat Unit W @Richard Franks - Captain Patrick Clayton, Combat Unit T @Alphin Aloor - Captain Travers John Durrant Birdwood, Combat Unit P: @Bjoern - Captain Donald Gavin Steele, Support Unit R Do remember to wear the most appropriate combat gear, to make sure the Patrol is properly attired, and clearly distinguishable from enemy convoys. Looking forward to see you tomorrow. At ease !!!4 points

Thanks Major Bagnold Sir ( @Ale Vallecchi) for the truly challenging and wonderful drive 🫡🫡. Had couple of stucks, refusals due to hesitation and not following the track with high precision. Still great deal to learn 😊 Ultimately, mission accomplished. Thanks @Bjoern& @Johannes Rouxfor the pull and support 🙏 Lastly, thanks to all comrades for making this mission a SUCCESS 💯💯 @Ale VallecchiI truly love what you did to that picture 😎😍3 points

Thanks @Chaitanya Dfor leading us through the night . the weather was still hot and high humidity could be felt but somewhere mid the drive we could feel some nice breeze. It was a pleasure driving with such a wonderful convoy . Thanks @Waqar Sarwar @AnasArif @Arravind@Srilakshman Karthikeyan @Haneef Thayyil @Xavi Moyano For making the drive possible and I hope you enjoyed to see how we fix a pop out ( well in my case it was a partial pop out)😂 Looking forward to see you all soon in the sad Cheers3 points

That's about 50km straight line @Frederic , sounds like a good half-day plan, but only when the weather improves... can't imagine shoveling at 11.30am at 40 Cels 😅2 points

@Alphin Aloor I switched from Dragon Mart air compressor to Portable ARB which comes with Air Tank. I installed the electric wire from front to the back, so I can use the compressor as an On-Board one. Gives me option to remove the compressor and keep it at home if not offroading for long time, specially in the summer.(less maintanance) I like how I can control the airflow, and compressor doesnt have to run continuously due to Air Tank, however I dont know how it runs without it. If I had an option to install an on-board one, probably I would do it, but only if I would use the bluetooth option with it. At the end,if your purpose is just to inflate your tyres, keep the dragon mart one, if you want to make it more easier, enjoyable, and ready to pay for it, get the ARB.1 point

Sorry guys I’m going to have to drop out, have just left the house and some bad shaking in the steering rack, not sure at this point if I’ve lost balance weights AGAIN! or it’s a ball joint issue it wasn’t there yesterday but can’t chance it ffs 🤦🏻♂️1 point

Looking forward to the Technical Adrenaline @Islam Soliman 🙌🏼! Which i always admire on ur drives💥🙌🏼1 point

yes Zulfiqar that issue is unidentifiable unless u have gone through it. I experienced the shame with my car when driving the car with the club. I have taken my car to reputed garages and got this experience. I didn't give up solving the mystery why a perfect car behaves like a 3 wheeler and ultimately found the underlying cause of it. Fortunately for you I am still subscribed to Carnity and I got a notification. I immediately identified the issue and saved u from selling ur car or opening ur wallet to increased expenses. I know the end result. You will start hating a good machine.1 point

---------Update after 2 weeks of change-------------- The X seems to be restored to its might! No AC or power cut-offs. Done 2 drives after the change and the last one was at Big red... AC cooling non stop and can feel the roar in the climbs.. so no more complaints. How critical a small mistake can cause.. an issue so small and unidentifiable, yet makes a big difference. I finally realized the importance of "right" spark plugs... As they say " it only comes with experience". Thank you all for the guidance and a special shout out to @Thomas Varghese1 point

Hi @Simon D if we work backwards from the problem, then you may derive your own conclusion here: So the problem starts with engines equipped with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), where some of the exhaust gas containing Nitro Oxide are being re-routed back to the cylinders to be burned off again. But at the same time, oil mist from the crankcase also enters the manifold. The combination of oil mist + exhaust from EGR = soot / carbon deposits, which you saw when you open your manifold (for others refer to photo ref #1 below). So doesn't matter Diesel vs Gasoline, if you have EGR, you'll soon see soot 😁but because Diesel produces Nitro Oxide more than gasoline, you'll see EGR being enforced for Diesels in environmentally-friendly countries. Solutions to the Soot: 1. Yield to the Manufacturer. This is when everyone says "if Mitsubishi engineers are so smart, why they let this happen?". So EGR is a Law-thingy, and they cannot sell in Europe, America if they don't comply. If you accept this solution, then we can just chin-up and pay when the lazy mechanics say "oh, this soot is too much, we cannot clean it, let's buy a new intake manifold" or "the soot came back within months, really? Then we need to replace your EGR Valve, it may be malfunctioning!" 2. Delete EGR Valve + Blanking Plate: this removes the valve that close/open to allow gases to re-enter the manifold and block the hole for EGR with a plate. Note that modern engines open/close valve electronically and have sensors, so assume the Computer does some assumptions and calculations based on EGR. So if you delete EGR, it may throw Check Engine Light. Is it safe? EGR is turned off during idle, otherwise it will cause rough idle, so technically with EGR off, engines can still run fine. Deleting EGR is like Deleting Catalytic Converter, it will throw CEL, it's bad for the environment, but car will still run fine. 3. Prevent Oil Mist from re-entering to meet with EGR: this is Catch-Can. But if you do #2, which is more effective, you don't have to do this Catch-Can thingy. If you love the environment and don't mind emptying Catch-Can every month, then this is the solution you'll choose.... until you find out that your Catch Can is still producing soot every few months 😂 Good luck with your choice, and update us after few months of implementing it 🙂1 point

Hi @Alphin Aloor - I have done the compressor + tank set up in two flavors which I can explain later. But in short: 1. Compressor installed under passenger seat or, if a SWB Y61 then at a space in the left side at the back (this space is not available if it is a LWB Y61) 2. Tank installed under the car if a SWB Y61 or under the driver’s seat if a LWB Y61 (space is not available under the car in LWB because of the fuel sub-tank) 3. Air outlet located outside of the car - in wheel bays or rear bumper What this set up allows you is, as Zed mentioned, running air-tools, and you can also switch-on the compressor while you are driving towards the exit. The compressor will shut off automatically once the air in the tank reaches 150 psi approximately (all ARB compressors have a small manifold and an cut-off switch rated at 150 psi, the cut-off switch can be replaced if damaged or by another at a different pressure rating), and the air outlet outside of the car will allow you to keep doors closed and bugs away . When all tires are inflated back to your desired pressure, you turn off the compressor and can use the air in tank to blow off sand. The setup I have in my car, a Y61 SWB, more or less allows me to inflate four ~33” tires, from 10psi to 35psi, in almost 5 minutes and also allows me to run air tools, it consists of two ARB dual compressors and a 20l air tank. Hope this information helps.1 point
