  1. On the highest squelch level, your radio keeps picking up even the smallest of noises? Do you keep getting distracted by static noise during your drive? Then you need to adjust the internal squelch levels. This tutorial is valid for Baofeng models UV5R, UV82, F8HP, and 82HP. It is not valid for models UVB5/B6 or BF888S. You will need to: - purchase the Baofeng USB programming cable - download CHIRP The fix needs a bit of programming (that's why the USB cable), but it's easy enough and all the steps are explained in detail in this article: Adjusting the internal Squelch Levels - UV5R / UV82 / F8HP / 82HP series TL;DR The factory's internal squelch level settings have long been known to have little or no impact on the actual squelch range. The smallest noise burst would easily open the squelch regardless of setting 0 through 9. Most standard Baofeng factory squelch levels range from a low of 14-22 to a high of 40-48, both of which are low, and offer very little variation of squelch levels.

  3. In stock form, I would get around 530km per tank combined city/highway driving in abu dhabi. Now, with A/T tyres geolander g016 265/65R17, and large roof rack with jerry cans up top, i get 480-490km per tank when using it for combined city/highway driving in abu dhabi. Notes: do not exceed 120 kph when highway driving. drive until red light comes on, then add fuel. obvs when driving offroad that number drops dramatically. Long drives on highway (road tripping) do not see me get any extra mileage. stay between 480-490km per tank. looks like a cool app

  4. I applied the same “hack” on my UV5R and it works great. Mine suffered as well from a constant squelch pickup. Nicely documented article !

  5. Hey fellow Pajero enthusiasts! I've been keeping a keen eye on my Pajero's (2020 model - Brand new) fuel efficiency lately and thought I'd reach out for your insights. I've tracked all my fuel tank fill-ups using an app and have compiled some statistics. (I’ve attached the data here for reference.) I'm curious to know how my Pajero's mileage stacks up against yours. Do you think the numbers I'm seeing are on par, or is there room for improvement? I'm all ears for any tips or tricks you might have to boost fuel efficiency. Maybe there are some maintenance tips or driving habits that could help me out?

  7. Oh never knew this. I have faith in Japanese engineering that the warning light must have a safety tolerance right....... right????😜

  8. This could lead to faster fuel pump failure, due to overheating, as fuel inside the tank also works to keep the fuel pump cool when fully submerged. Good to see you here @Jeh

  9. I'm running the same firmware version and had the squelch issue. It also seems they keep the same configuration of squelch levels even on newer/older firmware.

  10. Nice tutorial. I'm using UV5R with firmware BFB298 and haven't come across any problems getting excess static on the radio. Maybe the later firmware versions cleaned up the settings/squelch algo. But will bookmark this incase i run into the problem in the future. Cheers.,
