  5. Hi! I went through the same process last year. I did 1 & 3 (plus what I mention in the next paragraph) at a garage in Abu Dhabi - Mussafah area. However, I believe recommending specific garages is not allowed here. I would suggest adding the installation of a steel bash plate to your list. This is especially important if you are a newbie or a first-timer. The radiators on Xterras are positioned quite low, making them susceptible to damage when descending a dune, particularly if you bottom out and hit the front. And trust me, you don't want a broken radiator in the middle of the desert. For item #2, I would inspect the front recovery point. If it's fine, there's no need for additional installation (unless you want to, of course). A rear recovery point is a must. For item #4, the recovery boards will split opinions. My very super personal opinion is that it's better to learn how to recover yourself, as it's an essential skill, and you'll learn that by driving with the club. In any case, there're situations where they can be very helpful specially if you get stuck and are alone or cannot get help, but as far as to go out with the club you don't need them. For item #4 regarding the dual cylinder air pump, Carnity has a very comprehensive guide courtesy of Frederic: The Ultimate Compressor Review. TLDR: it's all about your budget, so DYOR.

  6. Hello Fellas! What do you think is the best offroad wheel brand. I am honestly confused and my choice is 20x10 (-18 or -12 offset) off road wheels but choosing a brand and a reliable place to buy in UAE. Any suggestions ? Methods / Black Rhino / Fuel / KMC / Mickey Thomspon or any other? Thanks, Sam

  12. Let me expand on item #2 a bit more. All specialised offroad garages install recovery points specifically designed for Xterras. They are made in local mills. They come in either 8 mm or 10 mm steel and are bolted to the chassis. Costs varies but last time I enquired I was given the price of 1,000 AED for 8 mm and 1,200 AED for 10 mm for the second option. Attached is an image for reference.

  18. I have Black Rhino wheels on my jeep, they have good negative offset - I had to remove the spacers and still the wheels look more protruding than before. I got them from a shop near Modern Bakery in Al Quoz. When I had some issue with the wheels, (some cosmetic issues) I contacted Black Rhino directly, and they referred back to me to the same shop as they are the authorized dealers.

  19. look for a shop where they allow you to try things on... Many will just have 3 items in stock and let you choose from that, but there are exceptions. I did that and could not be more happy about it (one of few positive moto-experiences here as the shop literally put different tire sizes on rims to let me try before I pulled a trigger)

  20. Get light rims, go for beadgrip, beadlock are heavy, will save you from pop-out all brands are good, more of the taste For the offset, check online tool to see how much the tyre will stick out, but dont over do it

  21. Next to the looks (of course that comes first ), you want to make sure you are buying genuine rims, and no Chinese knockoffs. So whatever you choose (method, Black Rhino, Fuel, KMC), make sure you are buying from a respectable distributor. There's plenty in Al Quoz, on Umm Suquim road, or in Umm Ramool area. Not naming any shops as we don't advertise here.

  25. Thank you all for a wonderful Yellow Truck pilgrimage. @Glenn W you were a great second lead, always keeping correct distance and following me on the trot. @Mahmut, I was expecting a TJ but got a JT instead. I suppose you would have got a lot of experience with the new car, it is a great choice for the desert since it is made for it. @nithish468 we drove together longer than anyone on the drive. As soon as I joined E11 from D57, I saw a FJ with a looper sticker on it. Didn't take long to figure out that it was you. I hope you had learnt something on the drive. @Hani crest king Our first drive together, and you did a great job keeping the cresting to minimum. More we drive more we learn how to manage the stucks and refusals. @AlexM happy to see you back on another annual pilgrimage. You could contrast the differences between both the drives. Obviously it was an IM convoy last year so the drive was much more aligned to that level and this time it was kept slightly easier. @M.Seidam it was an honor driving with you once again in another weekend. Thank you very much for all the assistance in the refusals. I was much relived with your presence at the back. I will return with some stats and working on the video. hopefully it will be ready by the weekend.
