Well depends on what your definition of the good old days is? Do you like the ability to dismantle and then reassemble an entire car with a 10mm spanner and a flat screw driver but then ride in a donkey cart with leaf spring suspension, moody carb that wont start on cold mornings and when it does start only a few people can actually make it work right so its not running too rich or too lean and when its working you are getting horrible gas mileage due to its inefficient design or having the stopping distance of a ocean liner with those horrible drum brakes or having massive 8 liter V8 engines that only produce 130hp and struggle to even pull themselves up a hill. Sorry I think, I'll give those old days a miss! In this country is a different situation. Majority of the people live in apartments and have no place to work on their cars, second of all its too hot most times of the years to be out for more than 10 minutes and that pace of life is very busy here, most people leave for work early in the morning and don't return until late in the day and whatever free time they do have they would rather spend with family, friends or doing something they love rather than wrenching on their cars out on a busy street side out in the sun. Not anymore in fact more people getting into DIY because of it. Now even manufacturer specific diagnostic scanners are very affordable and anyone can plug one in and give it a go. I rather not get too oily and undo two nuts and swap out a specific coil pack or CKP sensor without any guesswork which my scanner told were busted then having to fiddle with a distributor and a timing strobe light that is after I have spent hours trying to pinpoint the issue in the first place.

Stunning dunes and deserts outside UAE

For me the best and most comfy seats are from a P38 range rover, so much so that I even retro fitted them in my Land Rover discovery and another friend after checking them out fitted them out in his Jeep XJ. I also have the latter next gen of Range Rover the L322 but still prefer the seats of the older one. Personally having sat in many generations of the Pajero I dont find them anything to write home about. Just your average run of the mill basic stuff.

Lightweight offroad vehicles..... New Suzuki Jimny
desertdude replied to Julien V's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
I think its a pretty cool little ride, lightweight with proper 4x4 pinnings. But if you like pissing contests of who can climb xyz big dune from xyz side and do triple toe spins on top of so and so dune then this might not be the one for you. But if you like something in which you can have a decent amount of fun in the dunes then its a coop toy to have -

Mitsubishi Pajero head gasket is gone
desertdude replied to Frederic's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Yes, flushing, rodding is useless. Get a new radiator and don't rely on factory gauges. They are designed to show normal in the huge temp range which is considered operating temp, could by anything from 70-130C h and gauge wont move. Another 5-10C and your engine could be toast and by the time it shows its hot or you notice it. It's already toast. -
I once shared a ride with my friend in his corolla from Sharjah to Dubai with a kitten who was hiding under the bonnet. We heard meowing sounds on the way but just shrug them off until we reached Dubai when we opened the hood there was a kitten hitching a ride in there. Thankfully it didn't get caught in anything or burned itself on any hot bits.

Name one movie car you would like to own.

The Lincoln from The Car or maybe Captain Nemos 6wheeled limo -
Cool! My first ride was also a 1991 Sky Blue Civic sedan but the fully automatic one. LX I think was the spec. I wouldn't mind one again since, but almost impossible to find in decent nick. I still dig the way it looks. Sold it to a Filipino chap who then immediately modified it with BBS rims, lowered the suspension put on a body kit.

Indicator Fluid and muffler bearings? Oh and not to forget Chris Fix's piston springs! And something that annoys me to no end when people say their car has a V4 engine!!!! But on a serious note. I actually overheard this conversation at a garage. A guy with a regular jap sedan asking his friend wether he should buy something like a Land Cruiser or Patrol. And his friend said don't even think about it. "You know how expensive maintenance is on them. One tyre costs 5000dhs !"

People waiting for the very last second and inch of the lane before merging. Crossing six lanes of high speed traffic at the very last second so they don't miss the exit. And worst of all queue jumpers cutting in and idiots letting them in.

Tear in Engine Air Intake Pipe
desertdude replied to Sajith Kumar's topic in Nissan Patrol Forum in UAE
Yeah I was going to say everybodys talked about everything except the main issue until Barry came along. The tear is sucking in more air than the MAF is reading so most most probably you are running lean i.e more air and less fuel causing it too lose power.. Also back in the Desert Safari days this was a common issue with our 100 series Land Cruisers and no one bothered to fork out for an expensive piece of plastic plumbing. A got wrap around with a good quality duct tape, like gorilla tape worked just fine and lasted a long time too. I can't recall anyone having a tear in the tape. Just make sure its wrapped snug and airtight. -
Shopping for a new Driver's seat
desertdude replied to Sajith Kumar's topic in Nissan Patrol Forum in UAE
Thought came to my mind as I was passing the place yesterday. Try JOY scrapyards in Dhaid he's got three there plus a workshop and does all sorts of mods on Patrols and Cruisers for the local dhabab. And saw rows and rows of Patrols in his scrap yards. He can probably find and fit you a electric OEM patrol seat. Dhaid, first round about right xoming from Shj towards madam his workshop in on the right and scrapyards on on thr left further down. Go talk to Joy himself he can most probably hook you up.- 9 replies

Shopping for a new Driver's seat
desertdude replied to Sajith Kumar's topic in Nissan Patrol Forum in UAE
First you'll have to look if there are connectors there to hook up an electric seat since most manufacturers dont make separate wiring harness of different specs. If they are there then you are in luck its a plug and play solution. But if not you can always do a little bit of wiring and hook them up. All the electric motors need is a power supply and a ground.. Some get messy as they have memory outstations which work with with signals from the cars Becm and all but this only means a little more splicing on your part- 9 replies

Is thats what its for? A guy has this installed on his civics satwa spolier at the sandy parking lot below my place. It turns on only when he brakes. I thought it was just one of those satwa ricer mod fads that sweep here from time to time. Like that triangular extra third brake light/flashing fog light below the rear bumper or those fake anodized round towing eyes many ricers install nowadays. I'll see if I can take a pic and post it here, next time I see it being used. In case people don't know what I'm on about
