  1. I think the more relevant question must be whats tge difference between Dune Bashing and a Desert Drive. Dune Bashing was a term coined by safari companies in the late 90s and I personally dont like the term. I dunno gives the impression of acting like hooligans bashing and destroying your cars as well as the desert and its environment. Big Red, Faya can be described as dunes that have been bashed and bashed severely. While a desert drive is a nice and pleasant drive through the desert which can be slow paced and some challenging at times all within one drive. I know its been a very long time since Ive done this but there are people here who have driven in drives lead by me and Im sure they can tell you I dont dune bash but that doesnt mean I skip on big dunes or technical ones.
  2. Oh jeez not another one of those. What do you think all these flushing oils are made of? Unicorn farts! ATF has a very high concentration of detergents and is a very light oil which also does not break down in high temps. Similar to what flushing oils are, as barry very well explained. And since almost every one has some lying around in the boot of their cars or garage it cheap and accessible. Try to use a little critical thinking before going off on a knee jerk reaction next time.
  3. Or just do the old trick of adding a little ATF 100-500ish kms to the engine before doing an oil change. Also a product not available locally called seafoam, many people swear by it in the states and many actual and honest reviews about it online too.
  4. First of all there is no fast lane, its the overtaking lane, meant only for overtaking, once you have done that, go back. https://www.thenational.ae/uae/transport/experts-explain-importance-of-using-overtaking-lanes-correctly-to-uae-drivers-1.643737
  5. To me its just a distraction from whatever it is I am doing, 90% of times I'm on carnity from my mobile, when I'm out for a smoke or taking a _______ Sometimes there is something interested posted, usually by Barry and sometimes you and sometimes there is something I feel I can add to, so I do. Unfortunately very rarely you see good conversations or debates going on for a couple of pages. Which leads me to some trouble everynow and then because I am very opinionated and takes a whole lot of logical reasoning to change my mind or where I stand in any particular subject. If in a nutshell. Kill time and still none of the above. Or suitably just to hang out and see whats going on.
  6. The LR3 has the same Jaguar AJV8 4.4 V8 300 hp engine that the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have, and the LR4 with 385hp. Waaay more powerful than its Japanese counterpart 270hp from its standard 4.0 V6 and 300hp in thier top tier 4.5 V8 The Land Cruiser 200 weighs 3.3 tons and the LR3 is actually lighter at 3.2 tons, Plus has better angles due to its adjustable suspension heights, Plus much stiffer body due to its unquie monocoque chassis which is then bolted on to a standard old school ladder on frame chassis, which makes it much stiffer and less prone to flexing off road. I have atleast 3 people who have them with mileage over 300,000kms who are regular offroaders and campers and one with over 300k miles since its a US import. And they all look and drive very well with minimal interior wear and tear. At the fear of sounding biased because I have strictly stuck to Land Rover vehicles for 10 yrs plus and counting. So I won't comment on their off road prowess. Ill let the facts and figures do the talking instead. As for maintenance. Like I mentioned earlier me being poorer than middle class even has managed to keep and run 2 discovery Series I and 4 P38 Range Rovers and 1 Range Rover L322 on a very tight shoe string budget. If I can I think anyone can, yes they do require more owner involvement and more attention than your avg corolla but remember these things were close to and in some cases over half a million dhs when new so these are bit your everyday camry. Althought now there is a very good supply of aftermarket cheap to reasonably priced European made parts as well as enough scrapyard sources for used parts too. When I bought my first LR there was only one shop and one scrapyard dealing in LR. P.S : Just for clarification, the EAS is not unreliable, but since they are rubber air bags like tyres they will perish in 3-5 years but not always 95% of the time only the fronts. Air compressor is an easy literally 2dhs fix. But grease monkey garages just replace the entire unit which is pricey. I have fixed my Air Compressor with this 2dhs fix and its been almost 2 years now ans its still working fine. Knock on wood. As for brakes being bad. This was only true for the Series 1 and II.The 3&4 come with all the modern tech like ABC, DSC, Traction Control and EBC and stop just fine like you would expect a modern car to.
  7. The Discovery @Gaurav is describing is a Series II Discovery which he had, it ended production in 2004. From 2005 onwards the LR 3s and 4s are a totally different beast. They dont share a singe screw or nut among them. So unfortunately the entire post is incorrect regarding LR3s and 4s. Just like the Land Cruiser 100 series and 200 series are two complete different car. Although in their case they might share some running gear.
  8. For the past 4-5 years have started seeing them more and more on everything from SUVs to Sedans. AFAIK they are nothing to write home about but for the money they are worth it. Specially if you are looking at a stop gap solution and can't afford your fav tyres at the moment but the ride needs new tyres now.
  9. The guy who runs the place asked me to sign up.
  10. Looks like some DIY PVC pipe plumbing.

    New music

Cool 80s and 90s rock vibe. The band is pretty alright, nice riffs, drummer soild steady beat, none of that modern off beat splashes, ghost notes and fills but the singer is terrible. Need to get a new front man! Lyrics pretty wonky too.
  12. Didn't know they opened up a branch in satwa catering to the ricer community.
  13. Well all 50w oils are going to say they are incompatible with oil weight specified by the manufacturer unless manufacturer specified weight is 50w. Its part of the legal waiver to stopped themselves getting sued nonstop.
  14. That looks like a satwa special ground effect body kit
  15. Yeah looks like some old crap you would find in the junkyard with broken suspension and missing lights.
  16. That is true, from personal experience, I wouldn't even class it as a luxury SUV, its got the bells and whistle and the power but ride and interior is very utilitarian. Even with all the refinements it still drives like a 1991 190E Merc, if only if it were that durable and reliable though. Almost everything beats it in ride and comfort dept in the Luxury SUV market, one would expect more form something that costs half a million dhs.
  17. Found this, but pretty pricey at almost 300dhs for a gallon, but available locally and Red Line is a pretty well know brand in the motor sports and performance scene. https://uae.souq.com/ae-en/red-line-11505-fully-synthetic-15w50-motor-oil-3-79l-36393424/i/
  18. Oops My Bad. You specified 50w. Yeah thats a hard one to come by.
  19. Without even looking up anything or thinking. Adnoc Voyager Gold is fully synthetic and is so Lexus branded oil available from toyota parts people. The one that comes in the silver jug is also fully synthetic And a zippy google search https://www.adnocdistribution.ae/en/products-services/lubes/discover-voyager/product-portfolio-highlights/
  20. Same here, even after 10yrs plus I have no love for the food, probably coming from a desi specially Punjabi background with such rich food culture it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. And balut...ewww...just thinking about it makes me want to throw up!
  21. Get fresh jap LHD imported mercs, All with low mileage and in very great A great lot available at the RHD aweer used car complex or check dubicars.com
  22. Desertcart is lets just say a local mirror for Amazon. They just take your order, then order it from Amazon and bring it here in cargo when they get enough orders. plus add a very healthy profit margin for themselves. Shipping times vary a lot, I even gotten stuff as soon as 2 weeks
  23. You'll see quite a few 911s here of all ages. They don't seem to any issue but don't think majority use them as a daily driver. Although there are a rare few cases who I have seen using them to go to work and back .
