  1. How does this look on the inside? If all you've done is put a metal skin on your bumper unfortunately that won't make much of a difference. It the big scoop formed on the rear side of the jero bumper that digs in and rips it off.
  2. What you gonna do when you are done? You can't register it, ride it, sell or export it. I know someone here wou has a real old Vespa in 10000 times better shape but it's a no go because of no papers.
  3. Hmmm didn't know that. And here I was all happy that I wasn't being bothered by any PMs like everywhere else
  4. Have heard nothing but good things from LR owners about Capital Auto in Qouz. Have been using them for years.
  5. Definitely an immobilizer issue. The key and car are not talking to each other. You need to find out why
  6. A faulty radiator cap can be the issue and since it's cheap start from there. If that is not the issue and you are 100% sure water pump and thermostat are good Then it's the radiator. A partially blocked radiator will start overheating on highway runs cause pressure buildup which will lead to the cap venting. Using improper coolants and not flushing the coolant when required can cause hard deposits to form inside blocking off radiator lines. Specially if the radiator is designed with narrow lines. Old land Rovers also had this design issues. One day while I was coming back from Abu Dhabi midday peak summer season I stopped to refuel on a highway gas station and noticed my temp gauge moves up by a quarter and some coolant also dripping from the cap. Luckily I was close to home. So I made it Next day I tried to repeat the same at the same time of the day. But my just wouldn't heat up. But still no wanting to take a chance I replaced the radiator. And when opened up the old radiator. Literally 60% of the radiator was blocked with a very hard silicone type build up. I have a picture of to some where let me see if I can find it P.S : As mentioned in my first post fan has no role to play at high-speed all the cooling the radiator is getting is from the ram air speed effect
  7. I've already told this take here I think a few times already. Anyways it was a Dubai Govt sponsored clean up drive and they asked all the tour company's to volunteer staff. Since at that time I was at the bottom of the totem pole they sent me along with a helper. The reception and presentation was at Hatta Fort Hotel after all the media fanfare and blah blah we were given event T shirts with the Dubai Govt logo clearly in the front. Since I hate the wadis in Hatta I weaseled my way to the road clean up crew. There was a British lady in charge of the whole affair and I specifically asked here have you talked to the Omani side and she said it's all good it's all been taken care off. So from Hatta Fort Hotel I turned towards the border maybe a km at the most I stopped on the side and we got down and must have collected less than a half a garbage bag. An Omani Border Police Cruiser pickup rocks ups and with a real mean look on his face asks me what are we doing ( mind you I was also in our company green and white much more meaner looking LC pickup ) I told him Im picking up trash. He said who told you to. With whose permission are you picking up trash here. I pointed to the Dubai Govt logo on my shirt and said with their permission. He came close and read what it said. Anyways you are not allowed to pick up any trash here you can be arrested for doing so, so make yourself scarce. In no real mood to be picking up trash in the hot sun. I said fine. Got up in the pick up and left back towards the hotel. There the Brit lady was still roaming around outside I caught here and told her the story and gave her some crap that you almost got me arrested. You told me you have arranged and coordinated everything blah blah blah. She was visibly upset at this incident and immediately started calling people on her phone. I just retired to the nice cool gazebo with the buffet set up and spent my day chillaxing eating and sipping While I saw my colleagues from the other conpanies come at regular intervals and pile up the trash they had collected and we're surprised and jealous to see me chilling before going back into the Wadi to collect more By lunch time they were told to stop get together take some pics for the local media in front of the trash pile and have a five star lunch as a reward. We all were given some cheap printed out certificates and everything for being part of it. And that was my last official kachra/trash drive ever.
  8. Last clean up drive I went to I almost got arrested by Omani border patrol. Needless to say that was the last kachra drive I attended.
  9. Same here but they do everything from A-Z. PM your contact details.
  10. If you can afford it, nothing like it. An off road toy should be something that can explode in the desert tommorow and you can walk away from it without a huge hole I'm your wallet. Plus you'll enjoy more and you won't be always worrying about getting nicks and scratches and baby it around on tip toes.
  11. Yes Shan was one of them and that's exactly how it happened. I attended his and his cousins funeral here in Dubai. Two other friends also were lost that day
  12. I've been been beating this drum of avoid going to wadis during heavy rainfall literally for decades now. Even since I lost friends in college in Hatta due to flash floods
  13. Hotel Project, interesting! My Mrs is into that Hotel Supplies and furnishing. Maybe there can be some mutual business criss crossing?
  14. Man what a messed up cooling fan system you car has a hybrid of electrical and mechanical. Well if it is working variable now that means it's fixed. I just lightly skipped through the video and it says engine is close to overheating and 265F which is almost 130C so 105C is well within normal operating range. Also at 100kph 115C seems normal to me. Fan shouldn't be working anyways at this speed because radiator is getting cooled by ambient air passing over it. Engine fan is it there to provide extra airflow it when your car is stationary or moving slow and not enough is air moving through the radiator. Because a mechanical fan robs quite some horses from the engine so moving at highway speeds is just adding extra stress on your engine if it is also turning the fan. AC switch has nothing to do with this. It controls the condersor fans which helps the AC cool. If you AC is cooling fine then there is nothing wrong with it. BTW is you temp needle going up when it's all 115? Car gauges are calibrated to show normal temp between the entire range of normal operating temp. For example it would show normal from 80 all the way up to 125. Because that range is considered normal engine operating temp Because of it didn't your needle would always be dancing up and down. Because when you stop tem starts to climb when you start moving it starts to go down when you push your car it starts to go up again. As you might have seen in the obd readout
  15. Thing is there is no one size fits all solution here, specially since most SUVs now come without gutter rails which I personally used a long flexible CB radio antenna with a gutter mount clamp base. I had success with a double suction handle from dragon Mart ducttaped with a similar antenna. But I didn't it didn't look cool enough to me so stopped using it. More SUV have roof rails or hidden under plastic tabs locks to mount roof rails so people should be looking for ways to do something with those
  16. Has happened to me on my manual Land Cruiser on the washboard gatch tracks of Hatta. The gear was left in 3rd and the lever totally free. Had to drive all the way from Hatta to Ghusais in 3rd. Luckily here also it just fell to the bottom and did not grind in any of the gears. Had to fish it out with a long magnet.
  17. It's not a bad idea if you know what you are doing and know the market well. There is a guy not far from where I live who does this with Lexus LS older generations from 96-06. At any given time he has 10-12 without plates and I'm thinking freshly imported lexus's outside his villa And local crowd is crazy about these because it's ultimate reliable luxury at bargain basement prices But a fully equipped which is called the Ultra clean low milage late ls430 can go for as much as 35-40k
  18. You think like a criminal! Lol Ironically these were they exact same cars used in the famous wafi mall heist. I know the old time residents will remember that clearly. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/wafi-mall-dh14-7-million-heist-pink-panther-in-dubai-court-2016-06-12-1.632783%3fot=ot.AMPPageLayout
  19. Never buy the first years of any new generation of any vehicle. Because they are all bogged down with unforseen bugs and niggles. Very few manufacturers seem to get this right. Better to always last couple of years of the generation because by the end of the run almost everything has been sorted out and will give you the least amount of issues. Not always the case but a general rule of thumb. So in this case the TJ is the end of line for that generation and almost free from most squibbles and the JK is just the start of the JK generation. Another advantage is ( and again not always the case ) by the end of one generation in order to move as many old units out of the way before the new one arrives, almost all optional bells and whistles usually become standard spec on the last year or two. Going back to the OP a TJ would be preferable with the inline 4.0 with proven reliability over the stop gap V6 of the early JK
  20. An off road toy is if it's explodes tomorrow and burns down to it's chassis, you can still walk away from it without a very big hole in your wallet. But if you can afford to bash around in a 200k car without much of us poor folk type of concerns like expensive repairs, depreciation, screwing up your only pride and joy then go for it by all means.. For the OG poster off you can afford it and love the Patrol leave this one for the family and buy yourself another dedicated used patrol just for off road fun. Since this generation has been around for 12 years now I've seen early ones go for 50-60k also. Although personally I would go for the earlier generation as they are not so much of a plastic pig and almost desert ready out of the box and cheaper too. But then again not as roomy or comfy as the current gen Well that just disqualifies you right there and then! 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
