  1. Yes, mixed feelings of the drive. What started as a wonderful drive, ended on a sad note. But am sure that both Gaurav and his trusted Pajero would return very soon, stronger and better.
  2. in comprehensive insurance i have heard good reviews about RSA and AXA in terms of their quick evaluation and providing the necessary approval. But they tend to be more expensive as well. I have been with Oman Insurance for most of my vehicles for the past 10 years or so and then do take 2-3 days extra to give their approval. My worst experience was with an insurance Dubai National Insurance where they took 3 weeks to come to inspect and give their approval. This was for an accident which was not even my fault. So it should have been a simple procedure.
  3. What an amazing drive it was. The best Newbie drive in a very long time. Thanks to everyone.
  4. Great trip report @Rahimdad . Looking eagerly to the start of the night drives, but currently with my car light setup I am as blind as a bat. Hoping to get the LED bar fixed by the end of this month.
  5. I did have the dashboard sound while driving over some rough roads, but I was willing to live with it rather than get the dashboard opened. I never had an issue of sound from the rear door. Regarding the timing belt, I agree with Gaurav, only put the original. Due to certain situation I changed mine at 160k km and the old one was still in good condition. If you are having a whinning noise while turning the steering wheel it's most likely low fluid. You can put Dexron II or Dexron III ( as mentioned in the Maintenance manual).
  6. In India, it was very common to loose your footwear at temples and so they developed lockers or security people where you could leave them safely.
  7. @Rahimdad the credit for the team spirit goes to you and Gaurav. I still remember that in my second drive with Carnity I had a flip, and after the car was brought back on all 4 tyres there was some white smoke coming from the exhaust. You had suspected that the engine oil might have contacted the spark plugs. We were in the middle of a really nasty sand storm, and you guys still made an attempt to open and clean the spark plugs. After we brought the vehicle to the road, you guys were with me till i got the police report done. That for me, was the epitome moment in terms of being there for each other during a drive. Honestly, after the flip I thought we were going to leave the car there and get some external help. So the credit mainly goes to the two of you for developing that culture in the group.
  8. I am a chemical supplier. Can supply almost all the basic chemicals that you need in 2.5 litre bottles

    RTA Renewal

you can get fined and possibly car will be impounded if the vehicle is caught by the police. Keep your drives on the road to a bare minimum. If you are lucky, you might go through an entire year without being caught and if your bad luck is really bad you might get caught on 10th May itself
  10. If you feel the car is a good buy then i suggest that you can pay the bank directly and get the clearance letter from the bank on the spot. The NOC (or Release) these days are online in RTA system which might take 2-3 working days. If there is balance money to be paid to the seller you can get the Mubaya (sales agreement) done and pay him over the table. With the Mubaya the car is practically yours, but please note that there is a validity of 15 days for you to complete the transaction. Please recheck this validity once in RTA. The Mubaya can be done online as well. If the vehicle is under finance, never give the cash to the seller for him to settle with the bank. You should pay it direct to the bank counter and get the clearance letter. I have seen from close quarters the frauds that are happening here and you will be surprised what all can go wrong. While I agree with Gaurav about the email I always believe in one thing, that the email is valid only in the court of law and to get a judgement in your favor you need to run around which frankly is not worth it.

    RTA Renewal

you can directly pay the fine. frankly they are not bothered about the delay or any such reason. They infact are happy as they get a chance to earn some money by fining a car with expired mulkiya (if caught by police on the road).
  12. I can help with the acetone. Please send me a PM with your contact details..
  13. you can goto the bank which has financed the car along with the seller and make the payment direct to them and get the release letter and I think in the meanwhile you can get the sale agreement done as well so that the car becomes yours once the payment is done.

i think the fine is about aed 10 per month. you can try your luck to get it waived off.
  15. The guy loves 2wheel drive mode. Because of that when he went over the top of the dune his front wheels just got stuck instead of pulling the car forward like in a 4wd mode.
  16. @Gaurav your suercharged RR deserves a real challenge and that is available only at Tal Moreeb.
  17. Welcome Bilal to the Off Road Club. @Gaurav might be the right person who can answer this question as he had a RR before as well especially in terms of the lower bumper lip, etc. In terms of equipment, your vehicle should have a recovery point both at the front and back. A 2 way radio, flag and shovel would be very useful. You are most welcome to bring your friends along. Would they be joining as passengers in your car or in their own vehicles. If in their own vehicles please provide us with some details of their vehicles so that we can guide accordingly.
  18. Reviving an old topic, but with Night desert drive expecting to start from next month onwards I am looking to get some LED bars installed. Those who have already installed or have some experience, if you could give your feedback on the below points: 1. If I have to install only at one place, i.e., near the headlights or on the top, which one should I go for? 2. If you suggest the top one, there can be some glare. So what is the normal distance that you position the LED bar from the top of the front windshield. 3. Do you suggest to put a spread light or a focused light. Not sure if I have got the right terminology. Unfortunately, my night eyesight is not the best and I do have issues with bright lights as well. So glare of lights is a big concern for me. Just some more information, is that I drive a dark green color vehicle where light might not get reflected off the bonnet as much as in a white or silver colored car.

    Car Tint

Hi, Earlier I used to put Nanolux tints on my vehicles. They were made in US product offering 5 year warranty and had a decent setup in Sharjah for the installation where we could compare the various tints and heat rejection etc. They used to cost approx 250 - 400 for a sedan and approx 500 - 600 for a SUV. Unfortunately, they closed down. Can anyone suggest a lesser known brand for tinting in the budget of max 400 for a SUV and which offers a good product with decent heat rejection. I am not interested in getting some of the tints done at 100 which peels off within a few months or the big brands like 3M or Vkool who charge min. AED 1000 for a tint. Thanks

  22. @sertac I had shared some workshop manuals on the forum. Just check up now if that solenoid modification can be done to change '1-2' to only '1'.
  23. Pajero also is a culprit to this screwup. I owned one.
