Truly one of the best drives that we have had in Carnity. It had everything one can imagine, huge bowls, massive tall dunes giving us ample opportunities for side sloping, technical dunes and most importantly, absolute beautiful virgin dunes. Big thanks to gaurav for leading us through this amazing terrain and also to Rahim Bhai for the sweep duties to ensure the convoy was moving continuously at the necessary pace. Ofcourse this drive would not have been what it was without the entire team's effort to ensure a smooth and fast paced drive. Absolutely loved it!! Look forward to more trips to this area

I shall be coming only early in the morning possibly by 5 or 6 am at the deflation point or where you guys might be camping. Saleem mentioned that he would be coming in the night itself.

What better way to start the 2018 season, by having a full day drive at Al Wagan on 12th Jan 2018. It will be the first drive to Al Wagan for Carnity Group and hopefully the first of many more. The plan is to meet up on Thursday evening at Al Wagan around 10 pm and camp there for the night. We shall start our drive early morning on Jan 12th. The drive will be split in two sections, with the first being one stretch of dunes. We shall return via the sabkha area back to Al Wagan town for the Friday prayers and also to finish our lunch. We would then return to the desert via the sabkha area and head towards more deeper wagan, as per time permits. This is an Intermediate level drive, so no newbies and fewbies are advised to join. This requires the best of the driver and cars so please sign up only if you are 100% confident. This drive requires a lot of dedication, discipline, and commitment to continue driving in rigorous off-road terrain and keep the convoy moving at all the times. It is very important to reiterate to everyone to ensure that your car is in the best of condition with all necessary fluid checks done, air filter check is done, 5 good working condition tires, etc. Further, due to the nature of the area, I do recommend that to carry only the essentials that are needed for the drive to reduce the weight in your car. If you are looking at a cheap strap that would last you a single day, you might be better of without one. The ones that you mentioned might not even last one tug let alone one day. It's better you invest in a good rope / strap with good rated hooks. The hooks need to be rated for 3.5 tons, and the rope has to be rated up-to 13 tons approx.

Also if you are able to change it, just ensure that you can changeto preset stations from the new steering audio control. In my 2010 Pajero I could not flip to the preset station. Instead it would goto the next frequency...say from 89.1 to 89.2 I took it to habtoor to check on this and they said that was normal behaviour.. I didn't ask a single question after that statement.

Sorry guys, am out of this drive. Needed to get few things fixed on the car and it's not yet done.. looks like I will have to wait some more to get on top of iftar bowl... see you on the next drive... drive safe

or alternatively we can drive in the reverse direction from Hamim and see where it will lead us.

Great trip report @Gaurav. Ever since we hit the fence on the drive I was trying to find a break in fence and that fence traces for more than 100's of km. The only point that I found it free is the below location, but to reach here we will need to find another entry point. Maybe an input to be worked on. .

Getting the suspension fixed this Wednesday and a complete car check on Thursday. So should be all set to race through Liwa

Larger tyres mean more rubber and they are not exactly a weight to cause a fuel consumption increase. It might be that the width of the tyres are more which causes a high amount of resistance while starting. But at cruising speeds this should also not affect to such an extent I feel it sounds a bit strange that there is such a huge difference.

Mine is a 68 litre tank, and I get about 550 -600 km on road. Have never done a complete off-road drive with it, but I think a 20 litre extra can should be sufficient. Let me know what you recommend.

We need to also add that all the tires plus the spare need to be in very good condition

As rahim bhai said, excellent planning by @Asif Hussain, absolutely wonderful terrain and the tranquility while watching the stars at night have recharged the batteries for the work week. Looking forward to the next drive.

Lets plan a drive from Bidayer towards Pink Rock. The last time we were there we found some amazing rolling dunes, and look forward to some similar excitement. This area offers all level terrain in some easy to medium size rolling dunes, and we expect to finish at the pink rock area. This is an all level drive, fit for newbies and fewbies as well. I have not had any major issue in finding parts, I had recently go the radiator, water pump, spark plugs, clutch, and I think the flywheel changed and there was no major issue. My car doctor is @shadow79 and he has been able to get most of the parts. My car is a GCC spec car, GCC spec car is better than US import because in US the bottom of the car is mostly rusted. Other than that, whichever origin you will have to do some work on the cooling system to improve it (if it has not already been done). To use this vehicle for both daily driving as well as offroading depends on the condition of the car. In my case I got a relatively clean car so I use it for both. But most people keep this car for weekend drives only as its quite basic to drive on a regular basis
