  1. I would firstly like to thank @Gaurav bhai for his relentless efforts to create a structure and important notes for any person joining off road for the very first time. The patience to deliver it and making it enjoyable for everyone to learn from and knowing before hand what to expect.

Secondly, I would like to thank @skumar83, @Asif Hussain and @EmVarlet as senior members to lend a helping hand and guiding and keeping the convoy moving at good pace. A special mention to @Shafiq for helping out in every way possible to assist the drive even with his limited experience.

Moe importantly I would like to thank all the newbies who attended in great numbers and their willingness to learn and grow within this community. With our wealth of knowledge and years of repeating the same drills over and over again, it the new people joining us that keeps us charged, as we believe in sharing our knowledge and passing on the wealth to those who want to learn in a safe environment.

The drive was great and I believe we all learned from each other and with great spirit kept moving forward. A great lesson in life too. Failure is a part of learning and trying things differently to move forward as a team, with a little help from friends we make in this journey called life.

With the exception of an incident with our experienced friend @shadow79 the spirits of the group were not dampened and with experience and help at hand we had the situation in control.

After the newbies departed the experienced drivers took off on an intermediate drive. And with all good intentions comes good fortune. We were fortunate to help a couple of jeeps from another group. They had a pop-out and without the necessary equipment to fix it. We helped them out in the middle of the night and allowed them to join us to lead them out safely. Thanks to a team who wants to help people selflessly even if they are not part of the club. In the desert we only have each other to count on and we never say no.

My hats off to all attendees and looking forward to some long lasting friendships in years to come. To my new friends welcome to your community who cares.

  3. Hello Everyone,
Look forward to the Newbie off-road drive this Friday, Anybody driving from Al Ain to the destination (Tawi Nizwa) ?!
@Asif Hussain will be coming from Abu Dhabi.
Seems like we are having a good participation for this weekend's drive. Looking forward to it.
It is advisable for the new guys to share their mobile number in case any coordination is required
Great recommendation Sri, having mobile numbers of new comers will help.

  4. Many thanks everybody.
if there is a Sri already in the group then I can be “srini” short for srinivas.
other than snacks and fluids, what equipment should I be bringing for the drive.
i have not yet bought any safety equipment like ropes etc.
finally, can I bring a friend along in my FJC?
    regards
    srini
That's cool. Welcome Shrini. Most welcome to bring friends. I have a comprehensive guide to items for off road use, but I will recommend you to come with your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We will show you the equipment and even guide you where you can buy. Enjoy your first drive with us, you can equip yourself in the coming drives.
Looking forward to meeting you and your friend on Friday.

Sorry @Barry, @Rahimdad guess I was too involved in a love / hate discussion the last time. I do agree with what you said. Hope not to get into a discussion in the future.

@desertdude I would like to continue it one on one the next time we meet buddy.😙

Till then you can checkout my project ride getting an upgrade.✌

Total respect @Ren13 thank you for understanding and your pledge. Hope you enjoy sharing your upgrade with all. Looking forward to it.

  6. I second @Barry. Hateful remarks is not poking fun or cheerful banter. This is a car community for people who love cars. As Barry pointed out your interest must be some other type of vehicle so why don't you post something helpful there rather than hurting peoples sentiments by using hateful remarks in their passionate thread. Forum decorum must be followed at all times.

  7. Very good question @Jeh. Exterra is a very goid choice when it comes to off-road and on road drive combined, I feel maybe just a little uncomfortable for on road use only. It comes with only the 4.0 litre V6 option, with the petrol prices rising and for on road only I would prefer something like a Toyota Prado 2.7 litre 4 cylinder engine. More comfort and a bit of an advantage with fuel saving.

If buying a second hand Exterra I would go for a 2010 model or newer with less than 150k on the clock preferable off road version if I want to take it off road. Simple car with not many problems and tons of fun to be had.

First thing I would do on purchase is do a major service changing all fluids, oils, filters, plugs, belts, etc. Better safe than sorry.

    Just my 2 cents.

  8. Thanks@Gaurav. I have tried and tested many maps for off road use on android but none of them come any close to Motion X. Unfortunately this app does not exist on Android and is for IOS only. Finally the other day I stumbled on ViewRanger and this allowed me to save the track you send me in KMZ format. I was able to change it as route and it allowed me to follow the track while on the drive. I still am not sure how to read the terrain on ViewRanger and my other thing is the screen keeps timing out. Other then that it's been a relief to have a half good app as it can only develop for the better. Hope this helps.

  9. With a long time off from the one thing I am passionate about, it was the perfect time out. Thank you to Gaurav bhai, Sreekumar bhai, Shafeeq bhai for providing the excellent company.
A very important decision was to be made even before starting the drive and an educated decision meant I had Shafeeq bhai as my companion and co-driver. He took it very sportingly. The terrain is amazing and challenging at the same time. With a very able bunch we were able to manage the terrain with no stucks.
After finishing the expected route with everybodies consent we continued towards the Qudra Lakes. Half way through we stopped for some snacks and some cold refreshments. During the break we had some very interesting discussions which engaged us and opened pur eyes to new possibilities.
After a very good session we continued to Qudra Lakes, exited, inflated and back to our humble abodes. But not before 1 major stuck to make sure nobody complained about the drive being a boring one. Until next time stay safe and enjoy every moment in life.20180831_193335.jpeg
