Afternoon Fewbie Desert Drive - Qudra Secret Dunes: Discovery Drive - Dubai - 28 Feb 2025

Drive Details

Level:  Fewbie and above (all levels)

Meeting time:  03:00 PM

Action Plan: Even though the greater rainfall of the latest few years has caused an explosion of vegetation, which has transformed parts of Dubai's deserts into gardens, there is an area, unexpectedly close to the city and to one of its most visited desert attractions - the Love Lakes, that has remained pristine and almost completely clean of shrubs and grasses. We'll "discover" this dune field, with its white sand, and will criss-cross it from top to bottom. To add to the explorative nature of the drive we'll venture into a more complex dune field, mostly technical, just opposite Lisaili. Fun, exotic and new, with the possibility of increasing the pace, or enjoying a more finesse style of driving. 

What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face masks, rubber gloves, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.

Approximate finish time: 6:30 PM

P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.

RECOMMENDED OFF-ROAD GEAR:

• Tire deflator & Tire pressure gauge
• Compressor (MANDATORY)
• Walkie-talkie radio (MANDATORY)
• Off-road flag (MANDATORY)
• Shovel, Tow Rope & 2 Shackles
• First-aid kit
• Fire extinguisher.

LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE

• This drive is limited to 10 cars only. RSVP will close on Friday - 12 PM.
• If the RSVP is full, you can add your name to the waitlist, once anyone drops, you will be moved to the RSVP list.
• RSVP will close a day prior to preparing a convoy list.
• Latecomers will be returned - Without any exceptions.
• Members without RSVP will be returned - Without any exceptions.
• Please withdraw your RSVP, if you aren't joining, so your spot can be taken by others.
• Repeated no-show members after RSVP will have their account suspended for a month.

Dear Desertnauts,

a quick briefing before tomorrow's drive. In a nutshell, it should be a fun, relatively fast drive, in an almost unspoiled area, so close to Dubai and yet apparently so far away. We'll open the drive, and will close it, zigzagging on white sand, and long cordons of not very tall dunes, providing plenty of opportunity for side-sloping and crisscrossing. In the middle, we'll cross a small sabkha to enter two fields of quite tight dunes, that will slow us down, and force us to switch to a very patient, finesse style of driving.
