Morning Intermediate Desert Drive - Fayah Done Faster - Abu Dhabi - 16 May 2026

DRIVE DESCRIPTION

This drive will take us into the long range dunes of Fayah, just north of the sabkha, where the terrain opens up into fast, flowing ridges and beautifully linked dune systems.

The focus for this session will be ridge riding, controlled momentum, and linking criss-crosses while staying high on the dunes. Expect long sweeping climbs, technical transitions from slipface to hardpack and back, with plenty of opportunities to read the sand, choose your line, and keep the convoy moving smoothly across the crests.

This is an IM level drive, so drivers should be confident with ridge riding, side-sloping, criss-crossing, and maintaining momentum through longer dune chains. The aim is not just to cross the terrain, but to ride it properly — ultimate goal is to flatten the ridges of every single one of Fayah’s long range dunes.

We will avoid unnecessary technical traps where possible, but the pace and terrain will require focus, quick decision-making, and good convoy discipline. Expect a proper dune bashing session with great flow, big views, and plenty of ridge action. Dont forget your 360 camera!

Level:  Intermediate  and above

Meeting time: 06:30 (SHARP - Without any exceptions)

Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance.

What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Approximate finish time: 10:30 am

P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.

We rolled out into the dunes early in the morning with cool temperatures, soft sand, and beautifully clean terrain waiting for us. The convoy settled in quickly, with @Diego earning the honours of the first refusal of the drive — a gentle reminder that Fayah was going to demand focus from everyone right from the start.

The pace steadily built as we linked ridgeline after ridgeline, carving across some beautifully technical terrain. I got a little too ambitious on one long curved ridge and ended up beautifully crested on both diffs. @Zsolt and @Hani crest king jumped straight into action with the shovels, working hard to free the car before @Rob S delivered the final pull with the rope to get things moving again. A couple more refusals followed later in the drive as the convoy kept pushing through the soft technical sections.

One thing became very clear throughout the morning — we did a lot of ridgelines. The convoy flowed smoothly across countless connected crests and criss-crosses, making full use of the terrain while keeping excellent spacing and momentum.

Midway through the drive we paused for a short break after experiencing some GPS jamming overhead, most likely caused by fighter jets operating in the area. It definitely added a slightly more chaotic vibe to the drive for me as the navigation systems briefly lost its mind.

After the break we continued deeper into the technical zone, where a popout gave the team another opportunity to demonstrate great teamwork and quick recovery skills before carrying on. Thanks @Mehmet Volga and @Rob S for sorting the tyre and getting us going again.

To finish the drive, we headed into the desert safari area for one final playful session in the churned-up dunes before wrapping up at 10:35 AM after a fantastic morning of technical ridge riding, teamwork, and nonstop desert fun.
