You seem to be confusing diff gear ratio with trans gear ratio. Two separate things.

I guess you mistaken a pajero with some other car you love driving @desertdude don't get me wrong but everyone has a taste of their own especially if it's their ride may it be a pajero or a Nissan patrol. Both are doing well in the market and therefore you see so many on the road in good condition used as a daily mode of transport and for off roading. We all buy cars for a purpose and if that is sorted then we don't need anything else.

I hate to say it but you got screwed. Better to go to a small garage, get the work done for a small price, tell nobody and keep the receipt to show to the next buyer that the work was done and keep the resale value up.

Jap imports are pretty sweet and in very good nick and worth every penny, good climate, no sandy weather and heat and usually pretty well looked after. I've bought jap imports that looked like they had just rolled of a factory floor, well majority of them are like this, most of them have a Japanese auction sheet and there are tons of sites where you can learn to decode them and thats pretty much a very decent pre inspection sheet, if its not available there is not much to fret here. @desertdude is right, but I will add that messing about with final drive ratios is generally a bad idea, since it always upsets gearbox ratios,and you might end up with a result that is opposite the one you were hoping for. If you want more power, do some engine mods or reprogram the ECU with a performance tune.
