We will be 9 a convoy so we have some more space. Having said that please make sure that you have cleared up your schedule and are ready to join if not then please sign off by Friday afternoon. Nothing is more irritating than a no-show since a lot of planning goes into the convoy and route planning.

The album is a unique sonic experience and what better place to experience it than in a desert together with other music lovers ! The Dark Side of the Moon - Wikipedia We will be playing the full album (42min) and projecting visuals on a screen, on a late evening in the Dubai desert. Deflate and drive to the desert where we will set up the audio and video. 3. This album deserves your full attention. Dancing is allowed if you feel like it drinks and snacks as well of course! 4. Camping afterwards is possible if anyone likes it. Free of choice. If this formula proves successful, we will be organizing regular winter sonic experiences. Stay tuned ! PS This is not an offroad- drive.

@Soufianeyou did great on the scenic drive, and there were a few technical dunes involved where you needed to precisely point the 4x4 otherwise you would ended in a pocket. You will be fine to join this drive.

We welcome all Champions to enroll for the much-awaited Desert Champions Trophy. Here are a few things each Champion needs to know, practice and remember for the day of the event. Your phone or GPS device should have a dedicated power source to last for 6+ hours. Your phone or GPS device should withstand heat or direct sunlight. Your phone or GPS device should have offline maps. Your phone or GPS device should be updated. Your phone or GPS device should have all waypoints, and restricted areas. Your phone or GPS device should be able to record track without internet or GSM coverage (for DU sim holders). Your phone or GPS device should be able to export the track to a GPX file. Your phone or GPS device should be able to share that GPX file with us. Please test all the above, during your test run or daily driving, to eliminate any/all bottlenecks or points of failure. Please remember each member's GPS track has to be submitted for fair evaluation, which means 1 lead + 4 participants = 5 GPS tracks per team is needed at the end of the event. We require a full GPS track from start to finish line without any pauses or breaks. Any missing or broken GPS track will have the whole team disqualified. I've got around 6 offroad (Dubai / Abu Dhabi desert drives) between 2022 and 2023. Not with an official club but with seasoned offroaders (work colleauges). 3. Confirmed for the tow hooks, 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. 4. I've got all the offroad gear. Radio, air compressor, flag, recovery boards, kinetic snatch ropes, soft shackles, etc. 5. Confirmed on the video briefing. I'm currently on the waitlist for the drive, will I be able to attend? Rob

Dear @Soufiane, on the basis of @Frederic's information and advise, feel free to join the drive. You will be briefed, along with the whole convoy, in details and to a great extent before starting the drive, so you'll have fresh info at your disposal to manage the terrain. See you on Sunday (I will add you to the drive).

Hi @Soufiane - You can join any drive which is Newbie, there is one which is happening this weekend and I see you are already WL for that. By all means you can join @Ale Vallecchi 's drive also however the recommendation is you do a Normal Newbie drive ( the one previously done was scenic and didnot really offer you the real challenges/feel of deflated desert drive all through ( except at few times) - For any other NB drive there wont be any restriction however this one which Ale is doing is slightly levelled up and would be good for everyone to have done one proper offroading drive prior to this. If your WL gets accepted on 28th Drive, You can do this one then for sure, depending on the slot availability:) Trust this helps - Again its not a restriction for you on this drive but a recommendation from drive lead.

Hi Vallecchi, fully understood your points and thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I thought I would be eligible due to the fact that I did a 4hour desert driving course with Gaurav the other day and therefore would not be considered absolute newbie but fully understood that I first need to complete a drive with the community to remove that status. Looking forward to a new opportunity maybe next weekend 😌

Hi @Ale Vallecchi, no I haven't had any big noticeable experience prior to my AN drive last Sunday with @Frederic (Fred do you have any opinion here?). I mean never on full soft sand terrain, it has always been on mixed terrains. I don't mind giving it a try but of course I trust your guidelines. My goal is to learn on good basis. If this drive is not possible/recommendable for me, my question would be about the type of drive I should go to in the meantime ? only AN or are there any other Newbie drive that will be easier than this one ? Thanks a lot !

Great topic @Looper and i knew when i took up this issue with you that you were gonna be prepared I find the folder structure GaiaGPS uses a bit awkward and many hardcore GaiaGPS users are now stepping over to Caltopo, which i've been testing for a while now and really impressed by their web browser are route planning, but the mobile version is not yet up to the mark in my opinion. Anyways, what i do is make a folder for each emirate, and then put my tracks in that folder based on where i've driven. That way i can export for example that entire folder (Dubai by example) into one single .gpx file (including all the waypoints associated with that). This method works well in Gaia, but whenever i import a track someone else had sent me, it creates its own folder, which i do not want, and have to move this folder into the folder of the right emirate. Colour coding of tracks is a good idea. I do not use any colour coding on my tracks, but i do for my waypoints: 1. Red waypoints are entry and exit points. 2. Yellow waypoints are landmarks. 3. Purple waypoints are bowls and play areas I also recommend to keep the "best" version of a certain area you have done, and delete or archive/hide all the rest. If not, within 1 year your Gaiagps app will look like a spiderweb and will become extremely frustrating to use while leading. Naming is also important. I use the following example: SHJ-Badayer-FB-FNU (Sharjah Emirate, Badayer Area,Fewbie Level,my name code) That way, if you use the alphabetic filter in Gaia, all your tracks from SHJ will be all nicely lined up.

Recently Gaia has been a regular topic of discussion, as I started to do partial leads. During these discussions, an issue that came up regularly is how the tracks become unmanageable and do not make any sense anymore, leading to users deleting their old tracks. I too found the same issue while I was still new, perhaps 10 to 15 drives old, and I was intermediate already! When I was driving in the same area there were multiple tracks in different colours, and nothing made sense. Since Fewbie level I have been organizing my recorded tracks and I want to share my housekeeping tricks in post in the hope that a few of you might find it helpful. 1. Start Early: If you start early to organise your drives and with a little bit of housekeeping from the start you can better manage the tracks in the future, and it does not become a big headache later. Even if you are not subscribed to the app, do record the tracks with the free version and save them. 2. Folders: Create folders for each level of drive, such as Newbie, Fewbie and so on. I have folders for other types of drives, e.g., drives with friends, wadi drives etc. After each drive while saving the track, immediately put the track in those folders while saving. Gaia also gives an option to add photos you took during the drive to attached. While I do it, I delete them (Profile>Photos) later as it leaves a bunch of waypoints that I don’t need. The photos seem to stay with the track even after deleting them. Saving tracks in folders makes it quite easy to hide/unhide (eye button in saved tab) a bunch of tracks at the same time. These days I hide all the tracks and keep the current plan visible. Any new drive you record will automatically be visible till you hide them. 3. Colour Coding: You can colour code all drives in a level with one colour. In my case I used the same colours that were used in my stats posts. I considered either colour coding or creating folders by Lead or Area instead of filing tracks by Level + color-coding them at the same time, because it seemed like duplication. But those options either did not add any value to me or the process made it more confusing for me. Your experience might vary. 4. Rename Tracks: Rename the track with the area you did the drive and the lead with who you drove in the title. I also put the participants' names in the notes section. This helps to find specific tracks by searching for them (use “Download guest list” in calendar to get text of all names). As a newbie lead, I go back to my most memorable drives from the past in an area to plan for the next drive. Some time I get to see a great track to drive and other times I take the convoy though a technical jungle; either way it is fun.
