  2. Thanks again for all who joined our little city escape drive, and to @J-P L, @ChrisW, @Aser for the support. A special mention as well to @Amr A for bringing along two newbies with him 😁 who both drove perfectly. The weather was simply bliss, with a beautiful blue sky, some puffy white clouds, and a bit of wind. It doesn't get much better than this. The sand was extremely forgiving, but having such a great convoy and support behind my back made it even better. Without much trouble we made our way from Murquab to the Solar Tower, which was shining brightly at us. After a short break i wanted to explore the small but clean dunes just north of the Solar Tower. These dunes are smaller and more technical but we sailed through it without breaking a sweat. I was happy to see @Raptor Runner - Praveen being crested as finally we had something to do We made our way further Northwest towards the famous Three Trees at Al Qudra where we exited. All in all a good 45kms (see the track below): Wikiloc | DXB-Murquab to Qudra Solar Trail See you all in the sands soon again!

  8. @saumik1989 no alerts here for the last few hours. We will cancel if there is an alert after 6 am as per the above procedures. For now, we are a GO. If you want to drop off because of recent alerts where you are that is your decision and we will support whatever decision you make. Thanks for letting me know. See you next time.

  9. I think we’re on, the guideline says if we receive alert 1 hour prior to drive, we got it early

  15. Thanks again @Frederic - that was a perfect, relaxing morning drive in the desert. Good work in second lead @Amr A - you helped straighten out a few rough spots for us! Was a real pleasure to support with @J-P L and @Aser too (…and loved to see the daft dogs too!). Today’s sand was nice and easy but none the less, well driven by everyone - good convoy spacing, sensible lines and prompt radio comms. Perfect!

  17. Good morning all! @Amr A@Amer Alsabbagh@Ghali Awa@Tej@ChrisW@Amr Morsy@Sam76@Raptor Runner - Praveen@Hartzel@Chema@Alex M@Noufal@Ana@Aser Thanks for signing up! Taking into account the weather conditions and geopolitical situation, there are some points i wanted to highlight: 1. I moved the starting time from 7AM to 8AM. This should make it easier to reach in time considering the potential bad condition of the roads. But please try to arrive by 7.45AM so you still have time left to deflate a bit and set up your flag. 2. If you have received public alerts throughout the night and did not sleep well, better to cancel from your side. There will always be another drive. Look after your own safety and your family first. 3. Deflation parameters will be different. Upon arrival i would recommend only to deflate to 16-18psi. The sand will be very compacted due to the rains. If needed we can always adjust during the drive. 4. Obviously this will not be a dune-bashing style of drive. The hard sand will feel totally different to drive on. Let's just aim at exploring the terrain, taking the occasional break with a hot coffee, and socialize a bit. Let's make it relaxing. 5. We will be using Channel 10. Which is 446.231Mhz on our walkie talkies. 6. Better bring some warm clothes and a jacket. It will be chilly in the morning Stay safe in the meantime and i hope to see you all in the morning!

  19. With the summer coming closer, we will go a little deeper into the dangers of being exposed to the extreme heat UAE brings to us. During off-roading, some activities such as recovery work, replacing tyres, and dealing with pop-outs, are physically demanding, and many of us who are in office jobs are not trained to cope with this amount of heat. Luckily with the help of some basic things, we can minimize the risk of below mentioned issues. The following risks are identified: Heat exhaustion: Warning signs: A person may suddenly look pale. Heart rate will increase and the victim may complain of feeling dizzy and nauseous. A feeling of weakness is also common. What to do: Seek shade immediately and lie down, especially if you’re feeling lightheaded. Apply a cold compress to the forehead and remove extra layers. Heat Stroke: Warning signs: Heat stroke is a type of hypothermia where the body temperature is greatly elevated. If not treated immediately it can be fatal. Symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack, along with nausea, headaches, hallucinations, difficulty in breathing, and agitation, What to do: apply cool water to the skin and place ice packs under the arms to reduce the temperature quickly. Preventive Measures: • Sip some water all day long, rather than just when you are thirsty. If you are thirsty it means you are already dehydrated. • Wear light clothing that can "breathe", but also wear sunblock and keep your head protected with a cap or hat. • Some fruit and vegetables can re-hydrate the body even more than water. Carry some in your cooler. • Water is important, but too much water can be dangerous as it can cause electrolyte depletion. Limit yourselves to 2-3 liters per day. • When recovering a vehicle in full sun, limit your exposure time and take some rest every couple of minutes. Because you are focused on the task at hand, you might completely forget the heat and become dizzy and exhausted. • If at some point you feel unwell, inform your club members immediately. When driving, inform immediately over the radio so the convoy can be stopped. • Keep an eye out for your fellow club members. It is relatively easy to recognize above symptoms in somebody else. Let them take appropriate rest. Please do share your tips, hints, experiences !
