Good share, but I will never recommend to go out to desert alone. If you're stuck in an area without mobile coverage your app will not work.

Yes that's why we want to learn the correct methods of desert driving from you all 

Additionally it is useful in case if someone has a medical emergency

Hence always carry a Etisalat sim with you 95% of the UAE is covered. Save for some western border area with Saudi towards Arad

Incorrect @desertdude. We've been in some nasty bowl in places close to Dubai and Sharjah with no mobile coverage Etisalat or Du. Always dicey to go out alone.

Couple of weeks back in Madinat Zayed we were camping about one km away from the road and there was no Etisalat signal. Don't know if the coverage quality has dropped over the years.

I experienced same thing last week in Madinat Zayed. I feel liwa town has better coverage in the city and dunes than madinat sayed.

Then you just climb to the nearest dune. We had no reception in our campsites but all you have to do was walk up and viola full reception.
