The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new rule which states that the electric vehicles in Dubai will now need to be accredited first before they can be registered. The reason for this rule is that RTA wants to ensure the safety of every driver on the road. Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency explained that electric vehicles are equipped with complex electrical and mechanical components which can pose a threat to the users, roads, and pedestrians if not checked properly for quality. He further stated that RTA has alerted all service suppliers, auto agents, and technical testing personnel to not register an electric car in Dubai unless it has been verified by a UAE-based accredited agent. RTA is also conducting training sessions for public awareness and educating the auto agents in the UAE about electric and hybrid vehicle testing standards.

I’ve noticed a lot of hate on here lately, that’s not what carnity is about. There are people here from all over the world. Some of them like different cars than you may like. If you see a thread title such as “the hatchback appreciation society”, it’s for people who appreciate hatchbacks and they can go in and share cars they like. If you don’t like hatchbacks, don’t go into a hatchback thread and tell them all their cars are crap. Similar if someone posts a 4x4 thread, don’t go in and say you have no interest. This is a community forum. We all have different interests. Some people like diesels, some people like small cars, some like huge V8 trucks. Live and let live. Let people talk about what they want to talk about. If you aren’t interested, there is another thread for you.

If you like those check out the Yamaha Virago too, similar style and available in 250cc. I’ve ridden a lot of bikes and Japanese is the only way to go. I borrowed a Ducati super sport for a weekend once and had to call for recovery twice.

Did you ever rode a Cruiser or Touring bike ?

I had Suzuki Shaolin, India's first bike with 5 gears. The only bike that used to eat the competition was Yahama 350 with double the hp, but only in the long stretch. After the first few months, all my friends and colleagues stopped racing with me, but random road warriors always used to challenge in Delhi traffic. My best timing was 15 minutes for a 22km stretch with 12 red lights and 2 traffic-filled areas. I used to have the same color as in the second video, rather I still have but in rusted and dying state. Now, I have no clue but when I get the license (someday) will do the research and decide.

Its and addiction

I do have the same passion, and if ever I get a license and bike I will opt for riding on an empty road during weekend early morning long drives (out of the city). There are many bikers we see when we plan our offroad trips at the meeting point on Petrol stations.

Even in Asian countries like India where the road speeds hardly exceed 40 - 60 km per hour, I find it completely unsafe to drive a bike purely because of the road etiquette. I have seen far too many loved ones involved in bike accidents to last a life time. The fact that your life is dependent on so many external factors (read as idiotic drivers) makes me wonder that for other than an economic reasons why would one want to drive a bike. Never been to Eurpoe, so not quite sure whats the accident rate over there. Also, Barry has raised a very valid point that many times the bikers are in the blind spot, and even though its not their mistake it is a high risk position. Better to tread the cautious route instead and avoid bikes as far as possible.

I’ll have a Peugeot E-Legend please. The only way a scheme like this will work in the way intended is if REAL discounts are offered, like a 50% government subsidy. The Tesla Model S costs 287,000 dhs. Who is going to pay that for when the same money you can have a new patrol for the desert, a Camry to drive every day and 4-5 small cars for the wife and children to bash into things in the car park.
