It was a wonderful drive... there were many places which I thought was difficult for me to handle. Thanks to confidence given to me by Gaurav, Rahimbhai, srikumar... you guys made me feel proud of myself... I have learned a lot more...

Its wonderful to be part of such a warm community which helps absolute newbies like me and most importantly the patience and guidance shown by all the senior members is worth commending. I have never seen any of the club members getting impatient with anyone in this club for getting stuck/refussals multiple times. It makes a lot of difference for drivers like me who are absolute newbies. Your patience in handling our stucks and refussals is the key which has helped me a lot. Your patience and guidance has helped me understand my car and the sand much better than what I knew before I signed up for the first drive... I am looking forward to the new challenges which are now unlocked!!! 🤩 Once again, Thanks a lot for your patience, support and guidance!!

After seeing so many drives with newbie and experience offroaders from other clubs and background ignoring the radio communication, ask me to write such a lengthy explanation. Your car fuel is less important than radio communication as if you don't have the fuel you will not move but still, you will be safe and alive, whereas if you cannot hear that critical advise on what's happening on other side and enter then you might lose your vehicle and even life. Your music, passengers chit chat, mobile calls, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and other social distraction can wait rather than missing important advice over the radio that tells you the plan of action to not get lost in the desert. Your food and water are less important even, as without food you can stay alive for 4-5 days and without water up to 12 hours, but without radio communication, you might not be able to return home safely. No excuses are acceptable for not using the radio and responding back in time: Oh I forgot the radio Oh I didn't charge Oh it's volume was turned down by accident Oh I changed the frequency Oh my passenger switched it off Oh I didn't realize it's this important ENOUGH OF EXCUSES for your own safety and safety for others, if you cannot process this simple device then you are not fit to be an offroader, at least NOT with Carnity Offroad Club. Safety is paramount here and members who cannot understand this basic requirement will be removed from the Carnity Offroad Club. Spare radio is available for absolute newbies only if you have done 1-2 drives, please get your radio. It just cost less than 200 dhs for years of fun and safety. This is the first thing that any offroader should buy, who wants to drive in a disciplined convoy with safety in mind.

Some basic navigational skills would have helped here. Most phones have a compass, head north west towards the coast and you’ll eventually come across a road. GPS isn’t the be all and end all. If you don’t even have a compass, use your brain. Everyone knows the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, this will help you in the day time. Night time is even easier and more accurate, look for the Ursa Major constellation, make a line from the 2 stars on the edge and follow them towards Polaris, the North Star. I used to hike for days at a time in the mountains at home with no electronics and minimal gear and these 2 simple things always helped me find my way. Relying on GPS for navigation and phones or radios for communication isn’t always a good thing. Batteries die, things break, it’s best to learn the basics like our ancestors did so if things do go wrong, you have a chance of finding your way out. I could go on about survivalism but I feel that would be a whole thread on its own.

OMG, this could have been the worst disaster in summer with children and age-old diabetic patient without food and water. Of course, many people drive for few drives and think they can venture alone, of course, you can but mother nature always strikes when you are least prepared. Apart from navigational skills or software their both cars stuck and that reminds everyone to go in at least 3 or more cars and not alone or in 2 cars. Stuck tow rope between two vehicles is very common especially if you are not a seasoned offroader and plan your recovery without considering the downslope, vehicle weight, angle, and tug intensity. Slight correction from Khaleej Times statement, GPS signal was unavailable they might have meant that 4G or 3G was not there and that's why "online" GPS connection wasn't available. GPS signals are always working BEST in the desert and even if you have the most stupid offline phone app, you can make your way out without counting stars, sun, and moon in today's age. GPS signal gets lost in an area that is filled with skyscrapers like in Burj Khalifa area, but they never fail in desert or offroad. I have been driving offroad since Garmin brick GPS days that works perfectly fine, now phone apps like Motion X for iPhone and wikiloc for android have changed the face of offline navigation entirely. Secondly, every car, phone, most watches and offline google maps have a basic compass, so even if they have followed the qudra lake direction back with correct northing, they wouldn't have reached to Murquab that is way too far. Secondly, they could have gone on top of tall dune by foot and visually spot the road or street light and mark that direction in compass to follow. We see road lights from 15-20 kms very easily unless you are in Liwa, Sweihan or Wagan expansive desert. Kudos to Dubai Police for sending the helicopter for search and rescue in such situation.

Thank God, Mitsubishi didn't put such stubborn tech in my model Pajero. My ABS and traction control only kicks in steep downhill and never bothered me while going uphill or spinning the tires. I think it's more of ASC - stability control that kills power than ABS. Good find @hossein and thanks for sharing the above video

Thank you @Gaurav, I second your views. Radio is a very important tool for communication in the desert and should not be neglected at any time. Have seen lot of mishaps in the desert due to lack of communication and a few disasters or close encounters during this drive as well due to lack of respect for radio.

I totally agree @Mick, that everyone should enter desert with real men who understand this extreme adventure and behave in a responsible and civil manner than just being kiddish like immature boys.

It was a wonderful newbie+ drive and thanks Rahimdad for this great idea to throw newbies in some rough water and teach them swimming without the floaters - perfect example @skumar83 I have seen lot of new faces who were so confident in newbie tracks before were struggling on newbies+ level was there for a purpose to let them graduate the art of driving and learning their vehicle real capabilities. Some of the newbies have shown excellent learning curve and others have demonstrated that they have relevant previous experience based on which few promotions have been made today. Few others are almost close and maybe in the next couple of drives will be promoted shortly, once we all feel you are ready for the next level. I like to reiterate on the point that Rahimdad already mentions on "PATIENCE" that any offroad sport is an extreme adventure and if you cannot learn to be patient, tolerate and forgiving to others you can never learn real offroading. Offroading has no rules and laws, lanes and red lights, streetlight and signboard so one has to be very cautious and careful at every turn then being stupid and driving blind-folded. Secondly, we also need to learn to level up with each other while offroading so that we can learn together rather than running alone in a race. Thirdly, In this extreme sport, trust is everything that we extend to each other while venturing out and have that unsaid faith on each other capabilities and support so that we all can enjoy our weekend in a safe environment. Safety for yourself and for others is paramount and we will never compromise on that so that everyone can return home in one piece and in their own car after the weekend fun. I really appreciate a lot of you guys come from previous experience and didn't actually enjoyed yesterday drive with tons of refusals, but we all have learned the same way and I hope you continue to provide your support in the future to train others. This is how we all grow together and learn from each other at every stage of offroading.

After so many newbie and newbie+ level drives, let's have some moderately thrilling dune bashing for fewbie level, this area sand dunes are for fewbie - intermediate level only. So let's have a nice afternoon drive from Big red to Pink rock area beautiful rolling dunes. Plan to play all along the way, so we can enjoy for a couple of hours before it gets dark and then lay our spread near the pink rock area. its little bit late but I have faced this problem last week in the desert any time I need power traction control stop the engine 😭😭 on my 2008 3.8 Pajero ... we have to disable completely the traction control

Well written @skumar83. This drive was meant to raise all participants level from newbie to Fewbie level and we all noticed the same. Vast improvement from all newbies to up their levels. Well done to @Javier M, @jibransayed, @BIG T, @Rana, @Emil, @hossein who did very well in this area. The idea was not of a newbie drive, but to increase everybodies level to Fewbie. This was well achieved by all. Thanks to @Gaurav, @skumar83, @Asif Hussain, @Mujtaba, @Mick and @baselsm83 for the support during the drive. The best part about the drive was not only to be able to drive within that sort of a terrain but to have the patience for all to clear. My sincere thanks to all who passed the test on both fronts as everybody made it to all the sections as planned and everyone showed the patience important to become the best offroaders everyone appreciates. Special thanks to Zahir bhai who has come back from Saudi to join the trip and support our drive. Surely we noticed some discrepancies with the drive and @Gaurav bhai will be making and have a report soon on these short comings. Whatever we have devised is of utmost importance due to safety with our 20+ years of experience off road. The trip leaders advise should always be followed and radios are a must and should be treated with utmost respect. looking forward to such great participation with better solutions for future drives.
