Ropes and Rewards Perhaps this was not the biggest ever gathering for a Carnity drive, but it must be quite close. Just over 50 people arrived on time and eager to get to the sand. And for those that thought, it's OK to arrive late, the cat and mouse game of moving from the meeting location to staging post to deflation point was an additonal fun element. As was proven once again, the briefing is important - because without the basic understanding of what we are all trying to do we end up with more 'learning experiences' than perhaps we want and not as much cruising the dunes: which is, after all, why we are up at the crack of dawn. It's perhaps worth mentioning that there is a briefing for Fewbie and Intermediate drives (and probably advanced and expert as well). They are no less an essential part of getting out into the sand. Not only do you have a responsibility for yourself, but to pay attetnion so that you are not a risk to other people. Big call out here to @Frederic for taking time with the seniors @Gaurav @Rahimdad @Srikumar to make the briefing, briefer. I think we all apprecaited that a lot. @Jeepie and myself were given Sweep duties in @Srikumar's convoy. @J J was asked to take second lead. As the passenger seat was taken in 'TJ', @Srikumar allowed me to play Centre Forward in the convoy from the passenger seat. Readers - let me tell you, you should try this some time. You will learn a massive amount. Sitting as a passenger you get to see a whole lot more of what's going on because you are not concentrating on driving as well, and it let's you see how other drivers are developing so you can choose if that particular style is going to help you. So a big thanks to @Anvar Sadath Bekal and @Shiju Manuel who let me ride shotgun with them. Being allowed to ride with them was a previlege, not becuase there was any 'instruction' going on, but because it reminds us of just how challenging it is to get this sort of driving right when you don't yet have the experience or confidence. Is the car powerful enough? Which gear choice do I make? Am I comfortable following the line that the person before me took? You cannot remember what that's like until you are sitting next to someone making those choices and being reminded how much the experience of experience really brings to the table. A drive with @Srikumar is always a pleaure. This was no exception. Where ever you looked in the convoy and it was great to watch how drivers develop. @Jamy B. is supremely comfortable with her Xterra and the tearaway @Amoru (not so Newbie newbie) demonstrated quite ably that he had already spent a few years in the desert. More newbie, newbies like @Muffy Acidwala and @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ have not spent so long there. And that's where the ropes come in. As you progess in Carnity, and are promoted, there is a requirement to invest in more equipment. For more senior members, recoveries are an important part of the learning process: so it's with big thanks to all that got stuck and needed @Jeepie to pull you off or out that the us newly minted intermediates got the chance to try our our new kinetic rope!! As has already been mentioned by a few - she did an incredible job pulling three stucks back into the convoy while sweeping majestically the backmarkers into line. Our reward for investing and having been promoted. Except for a few hairy moments and one or two more easily sorted stucks were resolved, the drive was completed with everyone back safely at the Adnoc. Apologies that in these days of Covid 19 the customary post drive debrief did not take place. Apologies also for any confusion around where to reinflate. All of us who have compressors decided to reinflate away from the gas station to let the people who needed the airline their place in the line. May apologies to anyone not mentioned. With so many newbies around and what as in the end a quite busy drive, your expertise and easy navigation round the dunes may have been missed. See you soon in the sand.

My first fewbie drive, with @Jeepie as my copilot was amazing but challenging !! I feel there is quite a jump from newbie to fewbie level but I managed well except for the last stretch of the day where I really got stuck ! In all the panic I couldn't even get my car into 4 low and didn't even know where the button of my differential lock was located !! Luckily @Gaurav and @Srikumar were there to help me out and save my little blue. I definitely learned a lot today and my confidence got an incredible boost. I was satisfied but exhausted after a full day of driving !!

@Srikumar Thank you for being such an amazing lead, and for allowing us to experience the different elements of a desert. Thanks to all the community members for helping me out when my car got stuck. It was a day full of thrill and new learnings. Looking forward for another one.

Ladies and Gentlemen and Kids (TG's son), I had lots of fun as always when driving with such good people as you are all. thanks to all that watched over us and kept us safe from harms way and irrational behaviors that can overwhelm you when you are driving among all the crazy off-roaders out there. And if you really want to enjoy calm driving please give a big applause to Richard he is the voice on the radio that reminds you to "Keep Calm and off-road"

Sorry @sheri, @Zed, @Nizam Deen, @Salarios, @tjsingh for tomorrow afternoon newbie drive RSVP limit has been reached and cannot be extended for any car. Please dont come to the meeting point, as unfortunately I'll have to refuse it as we cant increase any single convoy size to more than 15 cars as per new safety rule we have implemented recently. Hope you understand the safety norms, and try to RSVP events more ahead of time, next time.

Trip Report Convoy 1 Another beautiful morning with the Carnity Crew ! Upon my arrival at the Solar Park Innovation Centre, i was glad to see already 5-10 cars which were deflating and getting to know each-other. By 07:00 we headed out to the briefing point (thanks to @Gaurav for finding that sweet spot). For the first time we compressed the briefing a bit, mainly because we see so many hungry faces, but also because some explanations can be done better when the action is there, and also due to the introduction of the essential briefing read on the website: https://carnity.com/brief We settled for 4 convoys, and headed for the dunes, eager to taste the sand. The first half hour in my drive lead, i came across enough patches and technical dunes that i kept wondering myself if i was not somewhere in Lisailli (an area known for this more tricky kind of terrain). Luckily i found an excellent second ead in @Nayan Shenai who kept sufficient distance, communicated with the convoy really well, and slightly rerouted on some areas where we knew @Mohammed Osama his Subaru, or the mighty F150 from @Melenany would face difficulties. As we normally not do any sidey's on a newbie drive, we came across 2 or 3 dunes which were perfect to do some training on steering control and momentum. All drivers managed really well and i was impressed with all of you ! Of course we had to do some straight-up straight-down dune crossings to learn that 'leap of faith' feeling, and to learn that we should not smash on the brakes, but let the car and its weight gently come over the dune. with @Xaf as my sweep who is always a blessing to have around, and seeing him teaching some tricks to handle steep descents with big F150 truck, reassures me that Xaf is always analyzing on every drive. Comes with the job i am sure @Colin Jordan i hope you can stretch your legs a bit more on the next coming fewbie drives. I am sure you will love it ! @Dale Panganiban - Fabrication, @Mohammed Osama, @Magellan @Jolly Abraham @sheri @Chaitanya D @Nitin Mohan @Melenany all you guys did really great. Hi @Gaurav my apologies for not being able to make it for today's Maliha afternoon drive. ( And also for this late info. I just came from the workshop) No matter how i pushed my mechanic to fix the steering fluid leak that happened during yesterday's Qudra drive, still we were not able to finish replacing the faulty part on time. My self discipline says that i really don't want to arrive late at the meeting point. I'm so sorry , i miss this event . Hope to drive with you next time.

Thanks for this great first new experience and helping me out with the basics like lowering tires, putting putting car in H gear, borrowing compressor etc Without you guys I would have had several recovery's or stucks. looking for to the next time. @Srikumar You are right, I hit it in the front. Thank you @Emmanuel you are right, driving with a single hand is a bad habit I need to cut. And yes for the video footage, I do have a mount which is attached to the passenger headrest which I use when no one sits there.

It has been an amazing drive today!! It has been a big step for my second drive and eventhough it has been quite challenging it has been an awesome experience! Thanks to @Gaurav for an amazing guidance and to @Mels Wolf for getting stuck on purpose so we could learn how to tow a car!!! Thanks for everything!! Cannot wait for the next one!

@Salarios, Thanks for sharing. I watched your video, allow me to give you two advices : - both hands on the steering (you might loose control if you hit a bump) - use a mount to make videos and don’t let your passengers record when car is moving (if you hit a bump, they might get hurt)

What needs to be understood is that the rubber can flex and not the alloy/steel rims. So a 20 inch rims has very less rubber and when you deflate the tyre still takes the shape of the rims. But if you have a 18 inch rims, then you have more rubber whose shape would change when you reduce the pressure. Hope it's clear now.

Wow, what an incredible day. Thank you sincerely to @Gaurav and @Srikumar for being so patient and methodical in every recovery, ensuring everyone walks away unscathed and educated. But we had a lot of recoveries!! By the way, this is me breaking my front bumper. I welcome your comments and criticisms on what I did wrong here..

You’re just jealous that the desert spirit kept choosing my flag 😌 As always, @Srikumar’s lead delivered, beyond expectations. I was sad when I realized the time was up and we had to head back to the Finish point! It was fun and just makes me look forward to more expeditions.

It was very exciting to do those small slope sidees...hope we learn and get it right everytime. @Rahimdad, @Gaurav and @Srikumar thanks for the whole arrangement managing other convoys. @Frederic super managed morning, shorter briefing and 4 convoys driving. Well done Fred. Apologize that I don’t remember who were in my convoy, but I want to give a compliment to the driver who was giving correct instructions to cars in front of him.

You need to get a proper bash plate done. Patrol Y62 stock bumpers are not meant for offroading. And if you intend to use this car for regular offroading it's 100% worth the investment

The logic behind this one is flawed. 27 degrees supposedly kills the virus, but the temperature of the human body is 37. By this theory, the virus can’t survive in the human body. The virus will eventually die outside the body because it needs a host, not because of the temperature. I’m not an expert on it, just applying year 12 biology and common sense. Fantastic respect given to everyone Shamil except one person. That is YOU. We have been teaching patiently to over thousand offroaders but less than 10% reach to this level, because of their undying dedication and understanding of how basic community principal works on "Give" and "Take" and not only take, take, take. You truly deserve this because of the HUGE mindset change that you have recently develop and shown immense maturity in dealing with issues that could have been ignored by many. You boldly face them, resolve them and learn to move forward as a one strong family. Keep it up and you have a long way to surpass every one of us, one day.
