  1. Gravity is your best friend on sand, you fight and you will lose hands down!. On slip side of a dune (super soft side ) if you see or feel you are fish tailing best is to steer towards the fish tail and exit out. The least one can do when you dont have momentum is dont press more gas. You may get stuck or have refusal which is better than worse which was about to happen with the Pajero

  2. Fighting gravity is already the first thing, but then we see him reversing full throttle, which makes me think this driver really has to learn to control his vehicle.

  3. Although the information here is available to all, but it's their choice if they want to view it. If through this thread We are able to educate a handful of people at least those people will be aware the dos and donts when in the desert. I totally agree with @Mohamed Seidam and Dr @Chaitanya D regarding their insight in this incident. I have seen this group a couple of time in the Fossil Rock area. They seem to be impatient lot who would just drive through a convoy without any regrets. I think part of the cause of this incident is also due to that impatience and this guy trying to push his vehicle to the limits and fight the refusal to keep on moving. Luckily he escaped the inevitable and even more lucky to have someone sensible behind him to realize the Pajero guys nerves wete wrecked and he needed a breather to come over the incident and carry on with the drive later. I keep repeating myself, drive higher on the ridge of the dune, if you are anywhere below the ridge even by a fraction the soft sand will catch hold of your vehicle and the gravity will always win in such scenarios. Turning left and making a second attempt would have been a better decision. As @Mohamed Seidam already pointed out, the momentum caused the vehicle to travel sideways and gather sand on the sidewalls of the tires causing it to act like barrier at the bottom, whereas the top of the vehicle continued with the momentum to what could have been a nasty flip.

  5. Exactly , as keep on rolling is an art , analyzing the situation forehead and anticipation of common possibility is the real art . The Pagero driver didn’t realize this or his reaction came late as kept on gas without steering to fish tail side , this collected sand to his left acted like a break which together with trajectory transferred all the weight in favor of flip , he was lucky . the reverse part he was probably still in adrenaline effect and same could happen in the reverse way

  10. Dear Desertnauts. Looking forward this Saturday's drive, a few tips about what's to come. First, as you saw from the title, this would be an FJ "preferential drive". While at Carnity we appreciate and encourage diversity, actively seeking it, we also understand that occasionally it may be valuable for members driving the same car to share an off-roading experience, to learn from each other, and develop a sense of community within the community. As we saw the FJ pack grow, it seems right to dedicate one such drive to this vehicle. @Ahab Shamaa, @David Ortells, @Heisem, @Piotr Kolodziej, and @Najeeb Mohammed, welcome to the FJ pack. On the other hand, all other cars and drivers are also welcome, up to the maximum limit for the drive. So @Arda Yagcioglu, @Mohamed Abo ElKomsan, @Kailas, @Tero Vallas, @Karthik Krishnakumar and @Pancho, it's good to see you yoin the FJ pack. The drive will take us through a little travelled part of Dubai, first: Murqaab's large and ling range, yellow tinted dunes. Past this area, a marked sand track will take us across an area of technical dunes, to reach the eastern reaches of Lisaili. From here the goal is to run along Lisaili's dune cordons, to Solar Park, and from here, past the pylon track, into Bab al Shams, where we plan to exit. There will be a lot of side sloping, ridge riding and dune's crossing to keep the FJ oack busy, and challenge all other drivers as well. While more info will follow on Friday, I wish you all a great week.

  11. @Ahab Shamaa any advice coming from @Rahimdad is gold. His experience, and the fact that he can do virtually anything with a very regular car (no disrespect is meant) shows you how it's always the driver's choice to make the difference. In the case of the almost roll-over, no amount of power, no super high clearance, no other fancy mod, would have saved the driver. It was just his luck that the car didn't roll. Going back to Rahim bhai's advise, if the Pajero had approached from a wider/higher angle, and had stayed higher on the slope, he would have gained/kept the momentum (why do you think parabolic curves aid drivers in race tracks?), and gravity would not have taken over. Having failed that, of course, his capital sin was fighting gravity (he should have gone down the slope to his left, and re-attampted). This weekend be ready to put Rahimdad's suggestions to good use. There'll plenty of slopes to ride slopes, and plenty of opportunities to climb them, or to make a safe exit, rather than fighting a losing uphill battle.

  12. I feel this thread should be seen by everyone in Carnity and learn from the mistakes others have committed. While it's still quite a different experience when you actually are in such a situation, but atleast one is informed and prepared how to react and knows what can happen !!

  19. I am in discussion with the owner, he is the second owner from 2015. Need your advice on: Technically what Key Points in X-terra I should Check.? What should be the Price.?

  20. Get it checked with a reliable mechanic, saves you a lot of hassle later. Just the regular stuff you can do yourself 1. Check on rta website for any accidents 2. Make sure its GCC 3. Some tell tale signs of off road abuse by earlier owner - bumper cuts, suspension mods, removing the side step, rear boot inner handle break, rear boot railings will be bent, front /rear tow hooks will be bent or not stock, stock GCC comes with only right front tow hook and no holes in chassis on left side, sand on the dash panel inside the viewing glass, sand in the air dam, ABS kill switch, engine excessively tilting when you revv, AT tyres , absent mud flaps...etc. avoid such cars as they will need some proper service ( which will be major one!) Good luck! Price for a 2lac run car would be around 20k, or around. It's a buyer's market!

  22. Thank you all for these lessons; I perceive them as invaluable πŸ™ However, the more I read and learn, the more I'm getting nervous; I'm not sure I'm going to remember any of these lessons once I'm on the sand πŸ˜‚ Let's see this Friday with my new set of Yokohamas.

  23. Ok @Gaurav, @Nivin, @Rahimdad, @Mohamed Seidam, @Jihad Hachem and @luwaimn, Yokohama Geolandar G015s are finally on! I am pleased to report that they're much, much quieter than my old BFGs. I bought them online and had them installed at an affiliated shop. So now that the tires are out of the way, can I expect never to get stuck in the sand again? πŸ˜‚ When I was younger, white tennis shoes made me run faster 🀣

  26. Thanks a lot @Ale Vallecchi! Great write-up; I felt like I was reading an action-packed movie trailer πŸ˜€ I also think it’s a great idea to get FJ Cruiser owners together for learning and advice. I’m so ignorant of my car, that I didn’t find out how to turn off traction control until my third drive with Carnity, and only after a fellow FJ owner showed me how to do it (I kept on wondering why I kept on getting stuck)πŸ˜‚

  29. Thank you everyone for the advice! I being new to Toyota and FJs are learning all about the massive choices in independent garages out here! With my previous Land Rover experience, general garages were a mistake and finding a specialist made all the difference. Apologies admins as I now know the rules on promoting product/garage and appreciate this as it ensures genuine discussions. I have all I need with regards advice ... and will now explore Al Quoz and beyond πŸ˜‚ to learn about the options available for me! Wish me luck and see you on the dunes soon I hope!

  31. To stay completely unbiased to safeguard every Carnity member interest, we have restricted brand promotions and sharing of car business details here. As in past many car businesses have motivated Carnity members to promote their brand and products by flooding meaningful discussions. Hence we have decided to stay focused on practical, relevant and unbiased solutions, rather than the solution providers. Thank you for your understanding.

  32. Congratulations @Vanessa8580. Your positive energy throughout the drive is amazing. I have not come across anyone as quick as you to reach the stuck vehicle even before they know they're stuck. I feel ashamed to wear a Superman T-shirt with you around. Keep up the good work and the positive energy we all feed from. Looking forward to supporting more of your drives. After @Emmanuel being the Carnity Velociraptor, @Frederic being our Saluki, we have the quickest one of the mark yet.

  39. Besides the flag and communication common sense is also not there. On 6th second you can see sand flying meaning the FJ was stuck. Without paying heed just go with the flow. Typical attitude of people not paying attention to their surroundings.
