Welcome to the Carnity family @Lakshmi Narasimhan. You are in the right place to learn offroading. I joined in Nov 27 2020 and had my absolute newbie drive on Jan 11 2021. Right now promoted to fewbie and soon to Intermediate ( probably in a couple of days ). Let me give you the good news 1st - You will meet so many good friends who are like minded and you will be thrilled by the adventure and enthusiasm of all. The bad news is - You can't have rest on Fridays and your family will look upon you like a mad man and wonder what happened to you. The most important time of the week is Sunday 7.10pm when the RSVP's to the drives open and you can join a drive. Be trigger happy with your fingers on your phone or laptop precisely from 7.00 pm onwards as RSVP's close in the blink of an eye as there are so many who want to join the drives. Driving up the dunes is relatively easy compared to RSVPing for a drive. If you used to be impatient in traffic snarls here you will learn to be patient as at any point of time you cannot overtake or bypass the car in front of you when you are in the convoy. You have to patiently wait until the cars in front of you clear the path and the obstacle. In due course of time it will come to you naturally when you do some drives with Carnity. WELCOME TO THE SANDS & IMMENSE ADVENTURE in the most safest possible way.

Today’s drive was for everyone a real challenge. The track proposed by Federic was 80 Km long! The Drive We started with a set of small dunes under the clouds just at the beginning of the drive, I was not aware about how beautiful the next area was, so I was surprised to see such tall, clean dunes. We dug into them and it was incredible! We spent almost 1h1/2 there when I realized that we were late on my drive plan so decided (not easy) to move to the next area, We tried to avoid flats on the way to the Solar park. We had to deal with some small technical dunes but so far so good :). At that point it was late and, with an estimation around 40 minutes to get to Bab El Shams when it was already 11:10, we decided to exit early to Solar Park. We covered 78 Km with almost 25Km/h as average (moving) speed ! I want to Thank you all for the enthusiasm and how everybody handled this amazing drive! The convoy: @Craig Finlayson: was an AMAZING second lead, keeping the right distance and able to find an immediately alternative path when I was digging in a pocket or a nasty area. Thank you for your support! (ant for the three tugs ) @Anand Nataraj: you are completely into the intermediate level, you managed also very well the problem with your leak on the tire hope that you managed to find the issue. @Islam Soliman: I meet you first time in Abu Dhabi. I found today an impressive improvement. Your Yukon is not an easy toy to handle. Well Done! @Ahab Shamaa I love your enthusiasm, Your dive style is amazing and I hope that you enjoyed the drive! Just one question... Drive Report What to say about Faqa that hasn’t already be said? Everyone was in great spirits as we gathered to ready ourselves for what we all hoped would be a great afternoon of driving. We picked our way through the small patch of technical dunes to reach the long range slopes. As we did so @Shehab Alawadhi found himself atop a crest and @Junaid120120had an ungual stuck. It didn’t take long to get them both off again and the convoy motoring through Faqa’s glorious dunes. In a convoy that was intermediate driver heavy I looked to see how well @Shehab Alawadhi, @Arman and @Junaid120120 could handle ridge riding and criss crossing . It was clear that after a couple of trial runs the three of them were more than up to it. Satisfied that our Fewbies were technically capable I increased the challenge and we headed further into the dunes. Just at that, we had two sick passengers, and alas @Mohamed Seidam and @siddharth maheshwari had to exit. I hope your passengers feel better now. We reached the other side of Faqa, an area not often explored, and here the fun level really increased,. We tackled ridge after ridge, found an amazing sweeping bowl and side sloped and crissed – crossed 'til our offroad hearts were content. I can’t thank everyone enough for their excellent driving that made for a very fun afternoon. @Ashok chaturvedi clearly loves his FJ but I don't think his good lady s as big a fan @Ilya Golubinskywas a fantastic second lead. It was great to drive with @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ and great to see you progress . @Islam Soliman once more helped keep everything going at the back as sweep. Thanks @Islam Soliman for all your help today. Special praise for @Shehab Alawadhi, @Arman and @Junaid120120 who all had great drives, followed the tracks and kept with the pace. @Luca Palanca Falsini thanks it was a good drive, few challenges here and there for the F150 but easily managed, got through everything with everything still attached to my truck so all good. Not to many recoveries so the whole group did well except for @Ahab Shamaa with his pop-out.... that was totally avoidable 🤣✌🏼

Hey @Foxtrot Oscar, I just had a family offroad drive at Qudra, and now I am free (Still at Qudra, 43 Min away from meeting point) I was wondering if I could still slip into the convoy? 😃

Thanks @Mohamed Seidam. The rubber boot connecting the air filter box to the throttle body is broken and seems to have inducted sand inside the intake manifold. Trying to source the rubber boot but sadly it looks like I got to hunt for it in spare parts shops Wise but very sad decision. I was looking forward to the drive. I had halff expected you to remove yourself as this was an issue yesterday too huh? Always best to get these things checked, by a mechanic, especially if you plan to take your car into the desert. Hope it isn't too much of an issue and you're back in the sand soon.

Last minutes plans always tend to turn out good. It was an amazing fast paced drives with several scenic landscapes with cool winds adding freshness to atmosphere. Everyone drove really well and we only had a handful of resfuals/stucks. Thanks @Foxtrot Oscar for making our Saturday much more engaging and fun.

Ok my turn now to comment after 24 hours since i cleaned up and uploaded some photos in the gallery. This was one of the drives i truly enjoyed the most, tricky but full of experience and the team spirit was amazing. Kudos to @Rahimdad @Ashy and @Brette for being there at each and every stuck (except mine and Mario's, but we managed 😉), and to each one of you who carried his shovel and helped, and yes we laughed a lot, but isn't this the beauty of it? Turning an annoying situation into learning & fun? A few improvement notes though from the rear of the convoy: - biggest adversary was lack of momentum, many hesitated when reaching the crests and ended up stuck - trying to unstuck yourself without assessing the situation from the outside is a No No, especially when one of the leads tell you to stop, but you keep spinning - finally....(me me me) go and check you tires after a pop out especially a sliding pop out 🙂🙂🙂...approx 500g of sand came out of my tire 😂😂😂😂

Thomas, mine was a 2012 Altima, bought it 0 from the agency and never touched the transmission oil, the car was under service contract so they didn't either. Whining noise starts at 30k and just gets worst the more you drive it, it is basically the noise of failing bearings inside it. Had it changed twice each time costed about 28k aed (more than the price of the car) but it was fine since changed under warranty.. Speaking to the service guys at Nissan they said that is a very known issue with the CVT and it is even worse on the v6 engines. Cvt is very good on small engines basically smaller than 2.0L.

Hello desert wanderers When you drive on weekly basis after a while you won’t be able to remember how many drives you have done so far despite remembering the event memories but it’s time order pattern become mixed in the mind . There are several ways how to keep the record till @Carnity will figure out a way how to get them sorted in the forum as a quick screen gadget. @Joe Biju Joseph I'm really sorry but you do not have the required number of Fewbie level drives to attend this drive. According to the data you have completed 3 fewbie drives. You need to have completed 5 to participate in Fewbie+ drives (the Fewbie + drive being at least your 6th drive)

Hi all I checked with the garage the problem with check engine light. It was so simple. No problems with ignition or fuel flow or anything. The air bag light was also on when the check engine light came on. The poor car was too confused what her owner is doing as the car had some nasty nose hits and was perched atop a dune in an awkward angle. She must have thought her owner is on a suicide mission and should protect me from potential harm by cutting the engine power as it seems he will fly off into destruction if she didn't restrain me. As soon as the car was tugged back to flat land she understood the owner's suicidal tendency has subsided and is now regretting his actions and only wants to go home peacefully and rest. Thanks @Lorenzo Candelpergher & @Shamil for putting my car on flat ground. Thanks to all others who waited patiently without a grumble till I could join back the convoy.

First of all, thanks to @Frederic and @Luca Palanca Falsini for accommodating such a massive convoy and making sure everyone gets to enjoy their weekend. This drive was a bit longer (82 km) than usual (60km) and we drove mostly under the shade of the clouds with cool breezes flowing in through the windows. Every one drove extremely well and we only had around 4 stucks through 4.5 hr hours of driving, hence we were moving for most part of the drive. Thanks again @Frederic for leading such a fantastic drive, We enjoyed a lot and looking forward for more. *Some pictures will be uploaded in the Gallery

hi @new guy, as Frederick mentioned the ford edge is a nice car and drives well on the road, it has some power and decent handling. But from experience once it hits 5 years old issues will start to show up. I have a close friend who used to own one where it always gets serviced at the agency started having issues with it after just 5 years, it only had 120,000km on it. In the last 2 years he changed the brake booster twice, all hydraulic hoses and steering pump, all arm bushings and ball joints, he also faced some transmission slipping recently until he decided to sell it. I personally owned an american car and multiple japenese cars and a german car.. I can tell you the german cars drive the best, it takes you from point A to point B with as smile on your face but be ready for the heavy maintenance as I only service my cars at thr agency and as per the manufactures recommendation.. American cars costs less but they aren't much reliable... My advise is to buy a japanese car, it doesn't drive the best but they are the most reliable. But make sure you never purchase one with a CVT transmission, had to change mine at 40000 km and the second was changed around 100k, ( under warranty) the third had to be changed on 160k but managed to drive it till 180k before I sold it.. At the end it all depends on your budget and how much you are willing to spend yearly on your repair bills. Just Don't expect to drive a 7 years old car without having surprises every now and then...

Dear @Emmanuel @Kalahari @Shyam Karat, just wanted to thank you for sharing your expertise and supervisory skills in the drive this morning. Being positioned second last in the convoy enabled me to learn from the members ahead of me in the convoy in today’s drive. Whether it was a refusal they encountered or getting their tires buried into sand, I can’t deny the fact that I tapped knowledge in those instances by purely watching the members and listening to instructions issued by the experts. That said the real champs I must say are members who were caught up in those situations as that’s a whole different experience apart from just gaining knowledge. All in all the drive was good, the terrain and path/route were good, challenging at times but manageable. So thank you all and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
