  1. I second @Frederic with the 1 2 3 count very usefull even with the most experienced to have smooth criss cross see below the differences how our intermediates are exiting the death bowl in Sweihan in the first clip see the second clip from inside the cabin of my X

  2. Totally agree. I kind of have the tendency during faster drives to do a seconds count before switching over to the other side. Like this: .....approaching the ridge by going parallel... .... entering the ridge... .... counting 1......2.....3..... .....exiting the ridge in parallel way again. The 3 seconds count would guarantee that the car is fully stabilized and long enough on the ridge before exiting. For a little short wheel base Trooper that's usually all over the place on a ridge it assures me that i've been on the ridge long enough.

  3. @Luke K P I just recently found this topic, really good one to read up on! @Andrew John Melvill These ridges are a bit above my level still, but if I understand you well it is critical when going up to first have the ridge lined up with the centerline of the car, two wheels on each side, before going down the other side

On the night of Sept. 7-8, Earth will pass directly between the sun and the full moon in this year's second and final total lunar eclipse. Spanning more than five hours, the celestial event will peak with an impressive 82-minute totality phase, when Earth's massive shadow will plunge the moon's entire near side into a reddish darkness, earning it the nickname "blood moon." The plan is to have a meetup with max. 15 members to practice and enjoy the art of Night photography and learn from each other. Bring whatever camera you have and have a look at the advisable settings in your camera's manual or ask in the forum. After the event you can publish your photos in our gallery. What to bring: -Your camera or smartphone, a camping chair, and some refreshments. A tripod is recommended for night photography. -4x4 and deflated tires are required to be able to reach the location. Meeting Time: 6PM GROUP 1 / 7PM GROUP 2 - PLEASE LET US KNOW Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8ML5zKcmTvt21GDP7 BEFORE BEING ABLE TO RSVP, CLICK ON "JOIN CLUB" on the main page:

  5. Turned so sharp the forward motion was changed to sideways (centrifugal) force very sudden, and as the front wheels had no more traction they couldn’t ‘pull’ the car forward anymore so it quickly lost even more forward speed. Sharp ridge meant quick build-up of resistance digging the side in, not just the back wheels.

  7. @Ale Vallecchi, Hi i have put myself on the waitlist as I am still not certain that I will be able to leave work early enough to make the start time. Will have to play it by ear.

  8. Great work @Sam Selim, very well deserved - and recognises both your ability to apply the techniques you have learned and your willingness to proactively help out on our drives. Well done, looking forward to doing the higher level drives with you.

  11. @Luke K P, some great learnings from that clip. Needed to stabilize the car on the ridge, transfer the weight over to the slip face. Only then turn down onto the slip face to complete the maneuver. @Herman G great observations from your side on what he did wrong. I have tried to explain how the maneuver should have been carried out.

  13. Apologies @Zed for late comment. Everyone has made awesome points and all are valid in there own way of approach. My request to view 30 secs prior was in an attempt to see and observe the attitude of lead car, which @Anish S has indirectly pointed above. Let me elaborate more on that now. I have seen this happening all my life that when friends, family and colleague plan a drive then everyone running with a ego battle to prove a point to one another over their cars, car mod or drive style supremacy. I myself did this exact same behavior when I was new in offroading to an uncle who use to pester me on every family event that you kids don't know offroading and we have seen and done enough. So on first drive to prove my point I was knowing or unknowingly driving like a maniac without considering his LWB against my SWB and on his every refusal I was wondering where he has been driving to have such glorified tales in every party. Same happen few times with my office colleague and after that I stopped going with all my friends, family and colleague to not to get into ego battle. Point here is I personally don't know your lead, but from his driving style he was totally unaware that he had Y62 in his convoy and still he was attempting to break a single use crest almost every time and that too from a very short distance which will make a struggle for Y62 to cross. Secondly from above video crest entries and exits was of Intermediate level and not at all of Newbie or fewbie level. On the dune you rolled over, wrangler in front of you has a refusal and you think u were distracted but I feel if wrangler had a refusal on a "SINGLE USE SOFT SAND CREST" then you had a zero percent chance to make it. In my humble view (no disrespect intended) you kept on fight with mother nature on soft sand crest to prove some point and then it was too late for you to steer downward and due to sand wall already in place of left tire resulted in rollover. Even when you have failed to prove your point, if you would have left the gas, you would have had a nasty stuck, but that could have been much better than a roll over. For future, if ever you still wish to drive with same or similar friends you should be able to gauge their driving style in first 5 mins and if its same as above, then adjust your driving to consider Y62 LWB and weight. When I had Land Cruiser LWB in such drives half of the crest, ridge riding I use to skip knowing my vehicle limitation and boat size length. I'm really glad that you are fine and that is the most important, as cars are just a piece of metal that can be repaired eventually. Take it easy have fun and drive safe.

  14. Both valid points from @ayman_khateeb and Gaurav. I would just like to add that I had the worst possible experience with Dubai Insurance and Reinsurance company which literally drove me nuts for over 8 months before handing back my Jeep Commander back to me. This incident was not covered by video clips or photographs, and police report had everything on it, plus I shared the same details with the Insurance company, but with disbelief in my story they kept on dragging the case until I threatened them to take this case to the police as they are not accepting my claim as per the police report. So bad insurance companies will try and find any loop hole to get out of a claim, however, a little extra investment in a well known Insurance company can make your life easier. Rightly said by Gaurav Bhai, even Police before making the report wants to know where the accident happened if you do not have pics or videos, so these media devices only help and not hinder your case.

  15. Very well put thoughts from @ayman_khateeb this is truly the same thing we have witnessed in offroad clubs in UAE since 2006. Just FYI, person who rolled here has an Oman Insurance and only paid 200 dhs excess without any fuss, also AXA and RSA are very good in honoring the offroad claims. Just in Jan one of the off-road club member rolled in Liwa and his insurance made endless drama to honor his claim and ask for pics and video to show the place. In my understanding if you have good company off-road insurance then whether you take / share pics or video it doesn't matter. Whereas in shady insurance it's always gonna be tough to get the claim passed so again whether you take / share pics or video it doesn't matter. Secondly as per my understanding all rolls/flips are unique as there are so many factors (drive style, center of gravity, weather, accidents, bad luck, lack of experience, mechanical failure) affecting it so the more we analyse and share, more awareness we will make for fellow off-roaders and make this sport safe for everyone. Off course we don't encourage name and shame even, but as a process if person car and name goes public, this serves another secondary reason for everyone to be more careful and sensible. I personally know a Marshal in one club who rolled 4 times in last season and if his name or incident gone public, he would have trimmed his aggressive drive style or correct his vehicle center of gravity than showing the sideys on top of risky dunes. Sometimes little fear of failure is good in such adventure sports. In my honest opinion club branding should get better by reducing the number of flips/rolls than hiding it, by giving new off-roaders confidence that nothing is brushed under the carpet and they are in absolutely safe and seasoned atmosphere.

  16. Causes of this flip: Overnight rain before the drive Heavy sandstorm Poor visibility Too close to the car in front Wrong judgement to steer upward when car is already sliding down Although video is from a distance and it's not clear, but you can get a quick feel for all the above causes.
