  5. TRIP REPORT What a good time we had yesterday ! So happy that we have such an amazing intermediate team in Carnity… @Frederic, @G.huz, @amir.rophail, @Javier M I reached the meeting point a few minutes before time and, to my surprise, found everyone already waiting, except @Frederic who was just behind me, as I found him somewhere on Lahbab Road, so we made our little convoy together till ADNOC station in Al-Madam. After filling up, we went directly to the entry point, a few kilometers away. We had a first sight from the road to the stunning high dunes we were going to venture in a few minutes later. The Omantel signal on our mobile phones reminded us that we were only at a few kilometers from Oman. Temperatures were still very high, close to 40°, so we deflated in no time and I limited my briefing to the essential points (what to always bear in mind when temperatures are high, a few indications about the route and convoy numbering). I decided to keep Fred as my second lead (and I must say he did an absolutely perfect job, well done) and to have @Javier M in sweep, as he is the most experienced driver in the group - thanks for your support, buddy. Soon after taking off, as we were climbing the first high dune, we faced a serious trial : @G.huzhad lost momentum and popped out in a very tricky place. We tried to move the car a few meters ahead, then back again, but it was still in a slight incline and the sand was very soft. Impossible to jack the car properly in this place, so we pulled him out (not without difficulty...) on a flat surface. There, fixing the pop out only took us a few minutes, but the all process lasted about one hour. Here I want to emphasize on the team's amazing spirit. Sometimes, when a convoy faces that kind of issue, we see many people just waiting inside their car, considering they just have to be patients and let the marshals deal with the issue. Yesterday, despite the blazing sun, everyone was out of his car from the first second, shoveling, helping to put the jack, bringing the tools, ropes, shakles, water, helping to maintain the tyre while inflating.... Finally we took off again and after playing a bit on those high dunes, we entered in what was actually the most challenging part of Al-Shuwaib : very technical dunes, big bushes, continuous slip-faces looking like China Great Wall, nasty bumps, hidden pockets... The kind of area that will make every offroader measure the importance of having a skid plate if his vehicle’s ground clearance is low. That said, everyone did very well, as we just had a few refusals. After about 10 km, the landscape totally changed. We were now in another wonderful set of high dunes where we could increase the pace and have some good adrenaline. The sun was already declining, unfortunately, so we had to leave this amazing area and head in direction of Super Bowl. As none of us felt like joining the crazy crowds of this famous spot, we decided to play a bit, but on the backside. At this point the night had fallen. We enjoyed some night driving and played before we reached Iftar Bowl side, where found a nice little spot to relax and share our snacks and stories. About 30 mn later, we headed to the exit point where we inflated. Hope you guys enjoyed as much as I did.

  6. Welcoming night drives is always fun to enjoy the desert at night, which is one of the most amazing experience. You can enjoy the silence, cloud full of stars, escape the heat, enjoy the breeze and sometimes even fog. As it's a first night drive, so we will start a little easy and then gradually bump up the pace and level, so that everyone can get hang of it and enjoy safely. We will start from Bidayer and play around the big red first from all sides and then head towards the Pink rock and play all the way on all peak dunes. Will end the drive at Pink Rock and lay our spread for suhoor with the newbie and fewbie convoy. Anyone who wishes to leave early can do so by 4 AM, as we reach to Pink Rock near 2nd Dec Cafeteria exit. When: 9 May 2019, Thursday Meeting time: 11:00 PM, the convoy will move sharply at 11:15 PM Where: Big Red Entrance at Bidayer GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/PUQeQ7CXejfeQsJa7 Level of drive: Intermediate and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive, train and enjoy until about 4 AM, settle down have Suhoor and exit by 4 AM - 6 AM What to bring along: Snacks, Suhoor meal, plenty of water - whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 4 AM or 6 AM Please RSVP on below calendar

  7. I had a customer in Dubai before. He had a mustang with some Disney stuff airbrushed on the bonnet. It was never a problem in Dubai. He drove to Sharjah one day and got a load of heck from the police. He came back to Dubai and we sprayed over it with plastidip. He presented it to Sharjah police and they were cool. As soon as he came back to Dubai, he peeled the plastidip off. I don’t understand it. Some modifications like straight through exhaust and welding your diff are pure antisocial but paint is nothing. It’s just making your car different without hurting or annoying anyone.

  10. All the fewbie drivers are requested to share their feedback for their first fewbie drive after the promotion: Have you felt the difference between the newbie and fewbie level drive? How did the Newbie level briefing and training help you to develop your skill sets for the Fewbie level? Do you think 5 number of newbie drives was sufficient for you to be ready for fewbie level? Do you think it was necessary to attend newbie drives first to gain appropriate skills and confidence? Which part (side sloping/ridge riding/crisscrossing) have you enjoyed the most in your first fewbie level drive? Did you learn something new at the Fewbie level or only bettered the skills you learned at the Newbie level? Any other comments you feel will help us to develop the new offroaders in a better way? Your feedback is highly appreciated and will help us develop a stronger and better offroad club.

  16. I wanted to test @Emmanuel's knowledge with pop outs 🤣 it was a nasty pop out indeed.. Thank you all for your help. The big dunes, oh my God... Absolutely wonderful. Great track, great drivers 💪

  17. Guys I had so much fun on this drive. @Emmanuel blessed us with a fantastic track that combined both the short technical dunes, and the long and high dunes where we had to push our cars to the limiter. We had a small setback with @G.huzhis nasty pop out, and it was nearly impossible putting it back into place in that location. I loved how all worked together and kept a cool head. We all learned a great lesson and that’s what matters. @amir.rophail @Javier M @G.huz Thanks for the great company ! @Emmanuel it was a blessing to follow in the pursuit of the mighty velociraptor, containing one hell of a great guy and off-road expert ! See you soon back in the sandbox !

  18. Time flies. It seems just a few drives back we were doing Ramadan night drives and its once again that time of the year again. So I am pleased to post the first night Suhoor drive for 2019. Plan is to have an easy relaxed newbie night drive from Tawi Nizwa to Pink rock area or Bidayer if everyone manages well. It's a perfect drive for newbies and fewbies to learn in the best terrain that gradually transforms and offers plenty of opportunities to learn and play. In the end, we will settle down in a good spot to have Suhoor before the dawn and return to tarmac before the sunrise. When: 9 May 2019, Thursday Meeting time: 11:00 PM, the convoy will move sharply at 11:15 PM Where: Tawi Nizwa Shops GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/yYkFvPBzW3U2 Level of drive: Newbie - Fewbie - All are welcome except for Absolute Newbies. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive, train and enjoy until about 3 AM, settle down have Suhoor and exit by 6 AM What to bring along: Loads of snacks, Suhoor meal, plenty of water - whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. 19. Just out of interest, what Ramadan timings are your company giving? Is it only for Muslims or does it apply to everyone?

  20. Yours is a different breed Pajero, trust me on this. I have taken your model to sweihan and kept a pace with modified jeeps and patrol, back in 2009 before I bought mine. Remember your Pajero made it to iftar bowl from left, more than 70% stock 4x4 cant make it even with 4 litre engine. What sertac is referring is totally different and fully restrictive with tons of sensors and limiter and down shifter curses.

  24. Hahahahaha I know but I have no idea how much @Emmanuel was pushing it at that time. My little 3.0 had to give it all and that sometimes worries me a bit, so I wish I had a bit more reserve 😉

  25. Ramadan Kareem ! Let this be a month of spending time with loved ones, contemplating life and love, enjoying the company of your friends, colleagues, and just sitting back and thanking that we are healthy and blessed that we can share this with others. I won’t be able to join in on the coming suhoor drives but I wish all of you all of the above !

  33. My first fewbie drive was 2 weeks ago(26th Apr) which was led by @Gaurav. It was a real test for me as I wanted to see for myself, if I had what it took to deserve this newly earned title. When the drive kicked off, I was a bit nervous, because I was not sure if I could keep up. But as we progressed, I realized that this is definitely next level stuff but doable nonetheless. I did get stuck once whereby I had to be recovered and I realized that was due to lack of momentum during the climb. The highlight of the trip was a side slope which I managed to pull off which led to a great feeling of achievement. Towards the end of the drive, we were at the pink rocks and I attempted a long climb, but however during the run up, I came across a few bumps which affected the momentum and half way through the climb, I lost power, due to which I had to back down straight to base after which I didn’t attempt again. I later realized that I should have perhaps requested @Gaurav to sit with me in my car during that climb and he would have walked me through the essential steps (Will definitely do that the next time though). All in all, it was a great drive, probably one of the best for me till date and I look forward to more drives and more challenges as I would like to climb the ranks with this amazing community and eventually become a capable off roader.

  37. Trip report - truly speaking I was expecting weather to be hot, but was pleasantly surprised with the cool breeze that kept it comfortable for us. It was great to see so many enthusiastic participants with @Ahmed Azmy being the first on the scene. We moved on time and after the Newbie brief we deflated and took off. Unfortunately @Tobias93 has to exit. @Gaurav in lead, with @ace1988 in second lead followed by @Ahmed Azmy, @Faisal sayed, @Mikhail Lukichev, @luwaimn and myself in sweep. As expected we had a few stucks and refusals which we handled pretty well and kept the convoy moving. Close to sunset we reached our play ground and everybody enjoyed side slopping. After a long and hard play time we met up with the Fewbie convoy and headed to the top of Fossil Rocks. Driving around it and coming to our spot for refreshments. Most of them left but left behind were the few who offered brilliant company. @eduardo along with his beautiful and intelligent wife. Dr @Ahmed Azmy the story teller, @yogic72. Before we knew it was past midnight. We too decided to head out, inflate our tires and head home. @Srikumar thank you for the brownies it was the best. And thanks for bringing Miju and Labor, their hugs and smiles make our day better. Until next time adios and catch you soon.

  44. Rahim bhai you are a human camel 😂 When I originally came here it was -10 degrees when I left. The roads were so bad frozen I didn’t think I would make my flight. 9 hours later I came to Sharjah. It was 19 degrees and I was sweating and dying from the heat. You learn to adapt and survive. 50 degrees? Bring it on!

  46. Check the small vacuum hoses on the front diff actuator. They tend to wear out. Make sure the piston that locks/unlocks the front wheels is not full of sand and debris. You'll find lots of information on google about this common Pajero issue. it's either 1) The solenoids which are located in the engine compartment 2) The vacuum hoses between solenoid and the diaphragm 3) Stuck actuator (piston) that engages or disengages 4WD 4) Vacuum operated diaphragm 5) Sensor on the transfer case. For some more information (there might be slight differences between the Pajero generations) http://4wd.blogeasy.com/article.view.run?articleID=318776
