  4. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. 5. RSVP IS NOW CLOSED @Frederik Bisbjerg @Ashok chaturvedi @mathewjo @Ashy @SureshVNair @Arun Mathew @muzamil hussain @Andrei @Kailas @Ajiesh George Kannankara @Jinesh Thomas @Sajit Modiyil @Erwin van Helden @Wrangeld I am glad to be welcoming all these brand new members (Absolute Newbies) to our Offroading Family. Some have been in the sand before, while others will be tipping in their toes for the very first time. Rest assured that both me (Frederic, Little Blue Pajero), and (Richard aka Wrangeld, Little Green TJ) will do our utmost best to make you feel comfortable and help you to learn to take the first steps in deflating, establishing radio communication, and going over the first dunes with full confidence. This drive might feel a bit boring (or relaxing) for some members with more experience, but it is mainly meant to gain confidence in taking you car offroad and getting used to the settings and how the sand behaves under the wheels. YOUR BEST introduction and briefing is all bundled in our briefing video below, which has replaced our long verbal briefing we did PRE-COVID. Please take your time watching the video, and repeat watch if needed to get the full basics in 15mins. This will make the difference between struggling and making your way through the dunes easily: For the members who have clicked "Totally Agree" on the COVID19 post, thank you. For the members who haven't done so yet, please get this sorted, as this is your formal agreement that you will comply with the COVID19 precautions we have put in place. If you are unable to make it, please send us a message on the drive-topic. See you on Saturday morning !

  8. Hi all, quick update. I also bought one and it workd like a dream filled up my 285/70/17 on my RAM from 10PSI to 36PSI in 1 minute and 55 seconds so extremely impressed and happy with it and as @Lisa Pemberton said it works with a remote which is a trear. in terms of the warranty as @sertac mentioned you do have that exact warranty slip in the box along with a stamped and signed receipt. so the 5 year warranty is legit. if anyone wants to speak to Allan the guy from Ravon auto regarding these please let me know and ill share his details.

  13. I have also bought it yesterday. Those guys are friendly. Explained well and very coperative. Yes it has remote. We can switch on & switch off with remote. Its different feature than other compressor with similar or even higher price. And looks like this compressor has better heat resistance hose. It is faster 16 L /min. I will see how it works on friday. They mentioned the 5 years warranty on invoice. And it is mentioned on box as well. They have mild steel SKID plates as well which will be almost 30% costly than aluminium plates. Its better than aluminium and looked very nice. For compressor, Bush ranger is also good but ACE is giving only 1 year warranty in UAE although it has 5 years in Australia. Thanks @Colin Jordan for sharing this compressor offer.

  16. Dear Desert goers, Saturday's convoy will line up as follows: @Tbone in Second Lead @Febin Frederic #3 @Chaitanya D #4 @Rinelle Sanaani #5 @Kalahari #6 @Wrangeld in Sweep Please make sure that you all carry with you a tow rope, possibly with soft shackles. Due to the relatively short length of the convoy (there will be no Senior at Center Forward), and since all the drivers are Intermediate, I would like to give everybody the opportunity, if needed, to practice recovering, under the supervision of Richard and/or myself. Therefore, each driver will be responsible to recover the vehicle either in front or behind his position, depending on the situation. Richard and I will advise whose recovery it will be (hoping that we practice this skill as little as possible ). Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday at 4:00 PM SHARP (in order to approach our playground safely we'll have to drive quite a way on the sand track south). Until then, enjoy your weekend.

  17. Hi Frederic, Thanks for your message and glad to be part of the team for 1 August I done some of the fun rallies GN and KT in the past plus some social visits to the desert with friends, cant say if I am good but can manage through dunes through acceleration with 4H and some diff lock ( not so great and need more practice to get out of the sand). I have LWB Pajero 2005 model with the front and back duel hooks for the towing. Have watched the video and agree with Covid 19 discipline. in terms of gear I have the tow rope, Inflator and deflator with gauge, Motorola TLKR T61 W-T, Traction belt, shovel, some other gadgets e.g. tool kit etc. I shall be coming with my wife on Saturday. Looking ahead. My mobile number is 0506442921.

  18. I had a look at a 6g74 today and it is possible with 2 custom pulleys, and 2 new belts. The water pump is a 2 belt pulley so you need to make the bit that runs off the crankshaft to be smaller to make the fan spin faster and the bit that runs the steering needs to be bigger to compensate for the extra speed. You will also need a bigger alternator pulley as it also runs from the water pump pulley. AC compressor is fine as it runs on a separate belt and doesn’t route via the water pump. So totally doable if you could be bothered do some math and get a couple of custom pulleys made. Personally, I’d ditch the viscous fan and go electric and free up a few valuable horsepower. If you’re worried about the electric fan failing, you could always go for a dual fan system so even if one breaks you still have that airflow. Electric also gives you the advantage that it can be thermostatically controlled for everyday driving with the option of a switch for constant operation when you’re sending it.

  22. Yes they call it is rapid or easy tyre deflator. You will get lot of video's on you tube. it is quite simple. This works in similar concept of removing valve just an additional process of screwing and unscrewing the deflator gauge to tyre nozzle to remove and fix the valve.

  28. Hi Frederic, Thanks for the message. This is my first time coming to the dessert. Previous time my car showed cooling issues and Covid-19 stopped any next training. I drive a Hummer H2 with a super charger. It's a beast, but it's not new anymore. Tow points are perfect. I will bring some new bought equipment, including a flag, second hand walkie talkie, ARB compressor, Deflator and shovel. I will also bring a friend who will be my passenger, but is eager to join with his own car in the future if this works out. Do we get a briefing before we start driving? Thanks, Erwin van Helden +971 56 99 80582 PS Where to find the video?

  36. That's why it's important to keep the right amount of gap, not too much and not too less. It's a balance that will come as you drive more and more. And if you mention that Chaitanya was this close then he might as well give full gas and exit out. Not an ideal situation to be in but as long as there is no damage all is well that ends well.
    2 points
  37. @Chaitanya D as a general practice if you see the car in front of you struggling especially on a side slope never overtake it from the top or bottom as you can very easily be dragged and hit the struggling car. Always exit before the struggling car I have personally witnessed such an incident at a Newbie Qudra drive when a car was trying to overtake the struggling car on a side slope, lost the momentum and banged into the car in front. To top it one of the car which was damaged was a Range Rover. And in a more recent Qudra drive we had a similar incident were almost two cars collided.

  39. Good idea. I usually look straight at the tire and stop deflating as soon and the “hump” in the tyre starts to disappear. That usually brings me to 30psi, so another 15-20 seconds extra and the gauge shows 35.
    2 points
  40. @topgear, personally I had used all kinds of deflating gimmicks, and then, one day, when my latest fancy tool gave up on me, I was given a stem remover (the red ones) with a magnetic hold on the stems. My deflating life has changed since then: I went from being the slowest deflator in the world to a relatively speedy one. As Fred suggested above, learn how many seconds it will take to deflate to, say 15PSI (depending on how much pressure you start with), then finesse the deflation down to where you want to be (with the FJ I usually stay between 11PSI in the summer and 13PSI in the winter, but this will also depend on your type of tires). You can check the pressure with the use of any digital gauge. Just make sure you double check, and confirm, the accuracy of your gauge, at any gas station (using the gauge Vs. the compressor's measurement).

  41. I'm with Wrangeld. I also was given a set of deflators, the amount of faffing and the time it takes is ridiculous! Nothing beats this, the cheapest, simplest and fastest tool hands down. https://www.amazon.ae/Garneck-السيارات-الشاحنات-الأساسي-الإطارات،/dp/B084RJH4SC/ref=asc_df_B084RJH4SC/?tag=googleshopp09-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=406722604018&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15111790251819978835&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1000011&hvtargid=pla-920112005471&psc=1

  42. Brilliant topic @Chaitanya D and very well displayed your concerns with images and drawing. Everyone has almost hit the nail on the head with their collective inputs and they all are correct too. Small add-on from my side is whenever we have side slope stuck, if you dig a channel front or behind (as displayed in pic below in red color) you can accelerate the recovery process. The core idea for this red colored channel is to drop the car wheel with a tiny extra movement after the initial movement and when this drop happen, the gravity will do the rest as you successful manage to shake the 2 ton weight. 90% side stuck you can self recover with below techniques and only 10% will be needing controlled tow-rope tug or winch (much better) in such scenarios. Such controlled tow-rope stuck we teach at advance and above levels. Idea is to force vehicle to point down in any direction. Though steering control front wheel so it will be relatively easy to steer down from 100% horizontal (imaginary) situation. As soon as that happen you will follow the steps in scenario 3 to get them out. Easy backward recovery Easy front recovery
