@Javier M in that case you haven't seen me drive when I'm fasting.

@desertdude that was the same drive I got stuck on knee deep soft sand patch with my Disco. Your expertise helped me to get out of it on the Discos own power with the difflock and crawling in what seemed for ever. Your patience and cool headed approach really helped me out that day. It also taught me a few important lessons in keeping cool and the art of self recovery which with Disco used to be a breeze.

I'm comfortable letting any one known to me drive my car including valet or known mechanic. This is still my attitude after someone I lend the car to for a couple of weeks and ended up looking close to AED 2500/- after the car was misused by that person. I would not trust my car with that person anymore now.

@Aaqil Sheikh you do need to get you suspensions checked. You need a proper lift and some bumper edges shaved to give you a he'll of a beast off road.

Dish washing liquid works very well, no particular brand used for wiper washer liquid.

@yogic72 you didn't miss anything. It was just normal drive, with nothing much but loads of fun, lots of yummy food from all walks of life, some extended time driving, excellent weather, some virgin dunes in a normally raped area. Oh wait. Hmmm, you did miss a lot.

I have heard positive about the Mitsubishi Eclipse 3.8 V6.

@Sidshk go to a radiator shop, get your radiator cleaned, flushed and fill with Mitsubishi original coolant. Coolant has a life too and needs to be changed as it looses its effectiveness with time. Like @desertdude said get the fan checked also, might be getting weak.

Revs are high at start as in older cars there used to be a choke button. On days when it was difficult to start cars due to cold weather or long stops, the choke button used to up the revs for an easier start. Modern cars comes with the choke as an automatic option which increases the revs on start and as the car comes closer to operating temperatures the revs ease of to normal. I usually start the car and light a cigarette, this gives me about 5 minutes, as Gaurav bhai says I switch on the AC after 2 or 3 minutes warm up and open all windows for heat and other chemicals to escape. Once I finish smoking I belt up, close the windows and move. Hope this helps.

@syedyaseer I too had a similar issue with one of my vehicles, soon after I have one rule, no water in the engine bay. Too many electronics nowadays to take any risk. Only clean engine bay with air.

@Chirag S.. Pros if you don't want to trash your close to AED 150k ride in the desert these will do nicely. Anyways any damages caused are not covered NY warranty and any accident repair you need to pay for the police paper/fine and excess to the insurance if it's fully insured. Cons, the car is old and no matter how good a condition the user keeps it in there will always be some work to be done on the vehicle. Another pro I can think of is it brings you closer to the vehicle as anything you put your sweat and labour into you develop a bond.

Seems like a very high revving engine. Too expensive and hate the electronics on board. I like simple 4WD that allow me to learn fro the different situations I put myself in.

Nice question @G.huz. I beleive there are some good pick up trucks out there, but research has to be made on capability, affordability, reliability and other factors that could affect the choice. In bigger trucks popular ones are the Toyota Tundra, Ford F150, Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Smaller pick up trucks have the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, Nissan Navara. Truly speaking some of these smaller pick ups require a business and a trade licence. But the bigger ones everybody can own. Personally I feel they are a bit more expensive and more difficult to maintain as the rear is always open to be suseptable to weather conditions. Maybe @Asif Hussain can share his truck experience.

Great @yogic72 in that case @Carnity is developing you with car knowledge, off road knowledge and technical knowledge. Where else can you find one forum that can develop you on so many grounds.

@yogic72 since you have had a few drives with us already you should already have some idea of what kind of mods you need. Don't let others decide what you need. If you find clearance to be the problem, you need a lift kit. About 2 inch lift will be sufficient and can support bigger tires. Like @Srikumar advised you can have a garage trim the bumpers and other plastic parts to give you the extra clearance. If you want to go the more expensive way you can find metal bumpers with rubber fixtures to escape from RTA passing vows. However nobody can guarantee you that RTA will pass the car after putting metal bumpers, so @Srikumar option sounds reasonable and has worked for others. Please be more specific if you have any other concerns. There are millions of off road mods, but you should have an idea by now what bothers you so we can assist you accordingly.

Trip Report. It all started for me trying to come out of area near my house, jam packed after the Tarawih prayers. This meant I was slightly delayed reaching the deflation point. Thanks to @Emmanuel who rounded up everyone and drove them from the meeting point to the deflation point. It was very relaxed as we chatted about different things before the newbie brief could take place. My special thanks to @Gaurav and @Srikumar for joining our drive. After the newbie brief and convoy numbering we were on our way. There were patches where we got some stucks and other patches which were easier to navigate through. Everybody showed great patience, good convoy discipline and kept moving towards our first goal of reaching Pink Rocks. After some easy bits we were treated to some medium sized stubborn ones and a final hurdle where we came very close to the base of Pink Rocks. We settled in a wide area to have our Suhoor. There was so much food and drinks, thanks to all for a very vast selection. After a filling Suhoor we shared some stories while others listened. During the Suhoor couple of us were treated to some shooting stars. At this point we all started packing up and moved on to the Pink Rocks where everyone played to their hearts content. 3 cars had to leave us here as the rest made way to the other side of Pink Rocks. Once we had crossed we waited shortly for Gaurav and Sri to join us. For me the true fun started here as we played in some awesome dunes. Although we did have a few stucks, but it was enjoyable to play in that area. As I saw the exit close I heard @AKR ask if we were going to exit with a request to continue for half an hour. I asked for a vote and majority were in for another 30 minutes. Once again a few stucks but still firmly touching the Big Red by now, I found a brilliant patch I could race through. Best part was the patch was still virgin and nice area to spend the last 30 minutes. But that quickly changed as some struggled to cross that area. In 2 hours we had the area churned up with very little space to move in. Being stubborn I took my stand that everyone should cross. The sun was out and sapping all our energy away. But with great support from the team and a little extra deflation we had all cleared the area and now trying to head out. From here it was an easy drive down and out to the tarmac area where we inflated and headed back home. Loved the company of excellent people around, good food and awesome team work.
