Pajero Suspension + Lift kit + Wheel spacers advice

Hello Team,

Firstly thanks for the informative posts and some great advice on this thread.
That said, I was researching some budget options for a 2-inch lift and I heard rumors about workshops installing off-brand/non-proprietary coil springs(Australian make) on the Pajero stock shock absorbers that have the 2-inch lift.
I also heard from these workshops that this is a popular option in the offroad scene but I haven't met any myself.
For a casual offroader like me, is this a viable option? Has anyone in here gone this route?

The main question is, will this setup cause strain on the Pajero stock shocks during offroad/onroad drives?

As a note, I am not creating a separate post on this topic so everyone can get suspension-lift related info from this single thread.

Hi @Deno Vikram personally i am using the stock suspension with a only a coil lift kit and i am at least once a week in the desert ( 4 hours drives) not including the short runs with friends and family . i am running on this combination a few years so far and would say the Pajero stock shock absorbers are very good.

things you must take into consideration when you lift your car is the center of gravity compensation by either installing wheel spacers or changing your wheels to a more -ve offset . as it might be very easy to get a rollover if you lift you car without the center of gravity compensation .

Now to the most important question if you should/Must  upgrade / lift your car. the straight forward answer is NO! taking into consideration that you are a casual offroader. but if you would like to do it that would be up to you if you like investing and spending your money on the car to look cooler.

If you ask me which is more important upgrade to have for offroading Skid plate or Lift kit , i would go with the skid plate  .

Hi @Deno Vikram

That is indeed a budget option, but the problem is that your OEM shocks will be operating a little bit outside their normal height range. The strain can indeed lead perhaps to premature failure of the shocks, but on the other hand they are cheap and easy to replace.

I am also not sure about how the handling of the Pajero would be affected. The pajero by itself is already a bit of a wallowing boat and doesnt have the best handling as is, so this could make it much worse.

Let's see if any one else went for this option and what the overall feedback is. I would be more inclined to save up a bit longer and go for a Dobinsons lift kit that will give you improved handling.

Hi all Pajero experts

Just seen that Dobinsons have an Eid special on IMS and 3 way MRA shocks, but do not have springs available.

So questions is, if I get the IMS shocks from them and a set of Kings springs will this work? Or do I wait till Dobinsons springs are available?

Cheers

Andrew

stock sus on Pajero is ridiculously capable if we are talking about desert driving. Unless you are a hardcore driver (then you probably wouldn't be driving pajero in the first place), you can achieve more ground clearance with simple spacers kit, keeping stock spring+shock setup, so you don't have to worry of exceeding original shock travel length or having issues with road quality, because aftermarket springs/shocks tend to be dramatically more harsh to drive...

I used to have dobinsons  shocks and springs, I dont know how is kings, but I would by the whole kit together, I know the both going great

If springs are not available, check when new stock comes, pay now while is promotion then wait when comes and install it together.

You will see that on most Eid and Ramadan "specials" they boost up the price with 30% a few weeks beforehand, and then showcase a 30% discount :)

Hi

As per what I have been quoted:

Dobinsons IMS & Springs are around 450 more than IMS & Kings springs, but still a fair bit more than the various stage 1 suspension options.

Will have to do the man math's and see if I can convince myself to not just leave it stock.

Hey @Mehmet Volga… after riding the dunes for about 100+ drives, I went for Dobinsons MRA suspensions with 30 mm spacers to avoid hitting the reservoir installed in the wheel arch…

the car now sits at 2 inch lift with the heavy springs which kinda gives a good look overall..

The MRA’s is what Dobinson a refer as stage 4, with knobs provided to adjust the settings to make it hard/ soft. I personally have found a sweet spot setting for on and off road.

Riding the ridges is more comfortable with good clearance and it can take those steep small steps we end up finding while leading.. one major change I felt is the reduced dashboard rattle  on speeds >60 on the serrated sabka tracks😂..

i did crack one of my suspension bush which was replaced by the shop.

These will get your pockets lighter by almost 8.5k along with spacers (H&R).

One another note , There is a slight vibration that I get when driving on road at 90-110 which my mechanic says is due to change in transmission shaft angle cos of the lift. M not sure if @Alexanderrr @Simon Dawood @Mus_hus78 have experienced it yet.

overall I am happy with the experience so far!

Hi @GauravSoni. I’m new on this group. I got a car already with MRA, 16inch rim with 30mm spacers pajero SWB. I want to check if the ride is firm on your side? How should I adjust the MRA to get more comfort ride specially with humps and corrugation and uneven road? Thanks.

Hi @Denny I welcome to the club.. pajero are inherently noisy boys!! Softer settings on roads with hardest setting on the dunes is my preferred way.. however you will have to find the sweet spot for your ride as mine is a LWB.. 6 high speed and 14 low speed is my stock config that worked for me..

check with  Dobinson for the best setting for SWB…
