patsydubai
Hi, I am Patricia. Been living in Dubai for 3 1/2 years. I currently own a Jaguar XJ8 2004 which is starting to give me some trouble. I have just started looking at the new series 5 (530i or 535i used) so will be looking at info on the forum. I am really pleased to have found this Dubai Bimmer site! patsydubai
Hi suhailmk. What do you mean by burnt my hands ? did you end up with a lemon ? the used market is fraught with tricks here, not like in my home country. It did buy my XJ privately, had no problems for 3 years and because of its age it is starting to give me some issues and the dealership has not been very good to say the least! The lack of transparency in pricing is typical to Dubai and it is a hinderance but I hope I can get some info here to help me in choosing the right car! suhailmk
Hi, Well i cant be sure i ended up with a lemon. but i surely got some trouble a few days after i started driving. so the problem i ended up with i shall say must have been cuz of my fault. It seems there was a leak in the coolant tank, so in the midst of things, i ignored the coolant light. Boom! the engine oil got mixed with it. its in the workshop and hopefully will come out alright. Fortunately a minor repair than expected is the reaction at the workshop. Anyways, thats just my story. Aint too bad. But definitely you ll get some help around here and being prepared about what you are looking for surely helps. Have u begun looking?
patsydubai
I have just started looking, went to AGMC last night to see their stock and figure out what sold and at what prices. Dubizzle does not really give you a great picture although I would expect the private market to be 10-15% cheaper as you do not get the dealer extra warranty.Looking privately here is a minefield. I have decided to avoid the Ras Al Khor automarket as I think there are many dodgy guys around and I am no mechanic. I am only considering up to 4 years old cars so with patience I should be able to find what I need. It took me 6 months to find my XJ and I got it for a good price. It gave me 3 years of great motoring until big repairs started hitting me in the face recently. This time I just hope my jag can last long enough to allow me to find tghe car I want. I am sorry to hear you had some hickups with your beemer. Glad to hear it is not as bad as you feared.I know there are many good work shops in Dubai. I am slowly getting to hear about the good places. I personally use AAA in Al Qoz for my jag but this time it had to go to the dealer and it is just being fixed after 3 weeks of diagnosis, a good dose of telling off the service advisor and some help from Jaguar UK. I wish I had taken a course in mechanics.
suhailmk
3 weeks of diagnosis?!?!? how longer for you to get it back? and i thought i had gone to the wrong workshop. mine took a month to fix it. probably inexperience i thought. a course in mechanics, yes, i wish workshops ran hands-on courses for the layman. Yes, Probably should avoid Ras al khor. A lot of people told me to avoid the place as well. Cant help wonder then if everyone says that, what really happens to all that car lying around. export? Anyways, AGMC is a good place to start with. I just heard offers for the XJ on the radio this morning. Couldnt help but remember this post. GOd bless, i hope your jag stays healthy long enough. patsydubai
As I suspected (from reading the Jaguar forums), my problem was the starter unit. Jaguar Dubai could not find any fault as each time I brought the car in (it had to be towed away 3 times), it would start at the garage.I told them to keep investigating and they finally enrolled Jaguar UK' s help. Hence it took 3 weeks of diagnosis, emails forward and backward and eventually Jaguar UK confirmed it was the starter unit which needed replacing at a cost of 6,000dhs!. Now I have to wait for the part for 2 weeks and then it will take about two days for the repair. Fortunately I will be away on holidays so the inconvenience of not having a car will not so much of a problem although it has been for the last 3 weeks! A lot of these automarket cars end up for export or to unsuspected expat buyers I think.Shame but people sometimes learn the hard way. Which radio was this you heard the ad please ? Good time to buy a car during Ramadan but having spent so much money recently on the old lady (air suspension system, starter unit-26,000dhs), I think I will drive it a bit longer hopefully till next Ramadan offers! suhailmk
That was a huge effort involved and indeed an expensive repair. And fortunately when your vacation was around. Touch wood. I had no idea spare parts were that expensive on a jaguar. Yup, an absolutely good time to buy cars this ramadan. Cant remember it being the same last year. i hear people who bought cars a month before cringing upon hearing the ads. Heard the jaguar xj offer on radio 99.3fm by premier autos. you can check with al-futtaim automall for seconds. they have cars in pristine condition as well. Hopefully the jaguar roars till then.
