It's time for another adventurous drive to welcome our superman aka Rahimdad. This time we will venture in some new area at the intersection of Dubai - Sharjah - Abu Dhabi border. It's called Shuwaib and it's an extension (behind) of Area 53 what we did, few weeks back. I wouldn't call it a challenging terrain, but it's more of a tricky terrain surrounded with too many bowls and pockets that one can miss very easily. Plan is as usual to drive, drive and drive and end at some nice spot for eating together till dawn and then drive for last leg and exit by 6:00. Cruise control helps to keep your vehicle driving in one speed with accelerating except if you driving up slope and down slope then that will affect the fuel consumption for e.g. when you go up slope or in a inclined position rpm will rise automatically and vehicle will use addition throttle to keep the vehicle in same speed , where if you driving in straight roads you will notice vehicle rpm remains constant in cruise control and fuel consumption will be good too.

Cruise is good for empty and straight road and help save fuel by constant accelaration to deliver constant sped. when road goes up and down or sideways then cruise is bad as it will keep on pushing gas higher to maintain that deseired fix speed in that case better to hold constant acceleration by foot and let speed go up and down to get best fuel mileag

cruise control usually used in high way in long driving with fixed throttle and fuel/air ratio so the engine management system shall optimize the consumption without any disturbance as long as we keep that condition even if we drive under the same condition (if there is no cruise control installed) with fixed throttle we can save a huge amount of fuel me my self i have noticed now as the roads for somehow clear of traffic jam at that time of the year so that really i save one extra trip than before 2 months ago in the same road the conclusion really high way driving saving fuel than city or low speed limit roads and the cruise control guarantees that.

Yes just like when I drove my two Land Cruisers for around 10 years and almost spent every day off and any free time I had in the workshop fixing sonething or the other. Whether it was when my fuel tank fell off, my fuel pump died, front and rear diffs got knackered, Auto transmission one day decided not to work, my transfer case said to hell with you Im going to blow up and leak oil all over the place, my radiator stopped cooperating, my condensor didnt want to cool anymore, then my evaporator also decided to get all gunked up. My indicatiors decided they didnt want to stay attached to the body and kept falling off, my steering rack didnt want to keep any of iit oil and also didnt want to stay fixed in placed. My rack end spared my life by not failing during a highway run and only failed when I slowed down veering my car off the road and into a ditch punching right through my alloy wheel leaving a big hole in it and both my tyres facing different directions. The wiring to the knock sensors gave up. And the list goes on and on and on and on. Because these are just thing off the top of my head and its been a while, And these were just the memorable events I remember clearly. So sure buy a LC and enjoy the reliability Point Im trying to make is IMO there is no such thing as a reliable car. Its up to the owner how well he maintains and looks after his ride, taking preemptive measures rather than waiting for things to fail to the best of his abilities. And honestly nowadays no such thing as cheap parts. I also had a Land Rover Discovery Series 1 which I drove till it hit 325k kms and it was the most reliable car I ever had. I drove it to Abu Dhabi and back twice a day putting over 400kms on it daily. And only once the drive belt tensioner broke which a quick 20min side of the road repair and was on my way again.

I feel that @HSD can get the RR if he has time to get the car fixed every now and then and is ok with car issues/part failure. For someone who just wants reliability and just to keep driving without any issues and dont have time to frequent the workshop/dealership, go for LC instead. So basically, its an individual's choice.

@hAwX Both are good vehicles and equally capable. As was pointed out by Gaurav Bhai the reliability is slightly better on LC whereas the power off-road is slightly better for the Patrol. However, if coming out to the desert, the lesser the electronics and computers the better. A simpler vehicle is also less heavy on maintenance.
