With the current worldwide situation and pandemic declared by WHO with regards to the Corona (COVID-19) virus, as Carnity Offroad Club we want to take the necessary precautions in order to avoid the risk of spreading the virus. Therefore, from today onwards, we will implement the following basic steps until further notice: Please refrain from joining any offroad drive if you have any symptoms of upper respiratory infection, cough, or fever. Avoid shaking hands and touching faces without washing or using sanitizer. Please refrain from sharing food, snacks, or opened water bottles. No crowding up in groups next to each other at ANY TIME: Not while deflating. Not while stuck/recoveries. Not while inflating or during any breaks. All recoveries will be solely handled by Intermediate and above members, who is managing those drives. We hope we can count on your co-operation and will follow up on the situation closely. To maintain safe distance of 1-2 meters from each other while attending the brief, please follow the below pattern.

Just a concept at the minute but looks like it would make a badass battle car. The original Avalanche had 820 BHP so this could be a fun toy in the sand if it comes to fruition.

As per the guideline and structure of Carnity Off-road club we strictly limit one single driver/offroader per user profile per drive. The person who has RSVP’d the event will be ONLY allowed to drive during the whole drive. If any two user share the same vehicle, then they can drive independently on any drive, but they are not allowed to switch during the same drive. Anyone who is not a member of Carnity Off-road Club is not allowed to drive at any time. Failing to comply with this requirement will restrict your growth in the off-road club and also trip lead might refuse to provide assistance in case of recovery or emergency breakdown. To fairly identify offroader growth and assign him/her appropriate off-road rank to join appropriate level drives. To legally indemnify the user of the vehicle so that he/she holds full responsibility for their vehicle and actions. Step-by-step training is for each individual and when you share the training, you will learn less than other offroaders. You will tend to slow down the entire convoy due to lesser learning and practice over time. You will increase the risk of substantially damaging your own vehicle. Repeat offenders will be dropped to the next safe exit and may result in a permanent ban from the carnity off-road club.

@Rahimdad In no way whatsoever I am belittling the effort from you and the rest of the team, Carnity is my family, I was actually saying it as a compliment since in other clubs yes they are more strict but there is also a lot of BS that make it less fun. We can talk about it offline, all I am saying is that we can take the good things that others are implemented without the bad things. But that is also a challenge to find the right balance.

First getting to know Paco (I officially named my car) I’ve actually done a few overland trips in Africa already, not with my car yet 😁 I was telling Rahim on Friday that I followed your advice and rented cars in some countries (Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia, so far). The only thing is that it has been driving in muddy terrains, mountains and crossing a river... no African desert driving as per yet, but that’s why I’m “training”. I remember a thread about overland trips, and will share some pictures and details of the cars I’ve driven there so far.

In other groups your equipment is inspected and you do not get the promotion until you actually show you have the driving skill and equipment required to drive at the next level. If you are late you will be left and you won't be allowed to participate since you are wasting the time of the people that are there on time. I don't think this would be the case for carnity since it is a more relaxed group in that sense. It is a difficult question on how to get the right balance of accountability vs creating a relaxed environment and luckily I do not get a saying on that. To @Xaf's point, I think the best way would be to create a manual with the most important information, all of this info would be available in the forum for download, instead of having it spread on different pieces. This way you can either print it or have it on our phone for your review. This way if you needed to update/add one thing you would just update the manual and people can go and download the latest version.

@Shamil, thank you for your kind words, but you are truly turning out to be an amazing off-roader with the right spirits and direction. We guide a lot of people as you must have noticed over the past few years, but only a few of them develop into true spirited off-roaders. You my friend are one of the very few and I am very proud to be in your company. The one thing we can never teach you and comes from within is the patience and determination, you have showcased these qualities from your very first drive. You have come a long way and just that little extra to go which will take you to the ranks of expert and eventually Marshal, I am very happy to see you on the right track. As for learning goes, we are all still learning from each other and that is what drives a community. I will thank @Asif Hussain on your behalf who surprised us all how an Xterra which is having troubles can still drive out on its own power.

Wow, i am lost for words at this revelation. It is an understatement to say that i am truly overwhelmed at this achievement. Carnity for me has been a second family. Its not the sand bug, the desert, nor the thrill i get whilst off-roading, but its the wonderful folks that make up this kind, welcoming and friendly community that i feel more and more connected to week after week. I will always strive to be a good mentor and eventually a marshal so that I can encourage and support the new comers. No promotion speech can be concluded without giving my due respect and shout outs to the leaders, the mentors, the teachers of our club aka our amazing marshals who have gone out of their way to patiently impart their knowledge, wisdom, and support me in this journey of mine. @Gaurav bhai - I will call myself lucky if i can ever be half the off-roader and leader that you are. I admire your calm demeanor when sh*t goes side ways and this has inspired me to follow suit. Even though i have come a long way through the ranks in this club, I still feel i have more to learn and i know that you will keep supporting me. @Rahimdad bhai - Can you ever have a combination of a great mentor, a friend and a confidant within one person? Thats @Rahimdad bhai for you. I dont even know where to start bhai, but you truly are a legend in every sense and i sincerely look forward to meeting you and driving with you every week. Your people skills are remarkable and I truly seek inspiration from you on that front among many other attributes. Thank you for believing in me and guiding my throughout my time with carnity and i look forward to many more fun filled drives with you bhai @Srikumar - I remember the times when you have been very patient with me whilst you would take your time to properly explain the basic offrading concepts to me. If i am being referred to as the pop out king today a lot of that has to do with your guidance. And i really admire the way how you handle and manage big convoys. I would like to take this opportunity to also say that I am in awe of your leading skills during higher level drives. Mad respect bro. @Frederic - Beside the fact that you are an amazing mentor and a fantastic off-roader, your most outstanding characteristic is your undying sunny disposition. You've got to tell me how you do it. You are a personification of one of my favorite quotes and that is - "wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine" @Emmanuel and last but not least, my fellow X-men. Thank you for the patience, the lessons and the guidance you have given me. I have learnt a lot about complicated recovery techniques from you. Its amazing to watch you analyze a stuck situation and how you compute every possible outcome and eventually come out with a workable solution. Once again, thank you for everything and look forward to learning more from you.

Good initiative, but still requires people to actually read them. I feel that the challenge is not so much accessibility of the documents but the fact the people who probably most need to read them don't, and won't no matter how accessible. Will every fewbie arrive at the drive Friday with all the equipment needed to drive as a fewbie? I have my doubts - because they likely stopped reading at 'you have been promoted'. The question on my mind is how do we achieve a situation where everyone has that sense of responsibility that when driving 4x4 it's not just about what 'I' want and more about the fact there are other people involved who depend on you knowing what to do and having the right kit.

@Frederic Thanks Frederic. Type of Vehicle - Toyota Prado Any prior experience - No much experience . Very limited and not going deep in desert. Are the vehicle's towpoint front and back in good condition ? Yes.

So I re-read this whole discussion again and it's great food for thought. @Xaf is of course correct. A single place where this information can easily be accessed is important. I get that it's about havign documents and not necessarily about people reading them @Javier M the flexibility and friendliness of Carnity is the DNA that makes it different. We don't want to lose that. We also don't want to be out on a drive where someone else expects you to be the one with all the kit in case they get in trouble. And ... documentation is helpful as long as it empowers correctly. @Rahimdad I think sometimes, we probablt underestimate the amount of time and energy the seniors put into managing the club next to the day job. It's clear that promotions can only come when justified by the correct methods (combination of driving and attitude/contribution) but maybe there is a place for seeking additional input from others which would not be seen as an imposition to assist in these areas. Happy to help prepare documents if that's what's needed.

I also think having a manual is a great idea. It could be "Carnity's Offroad Essentials Guide", issued in PDF format, and would periodically be updated with new information. The Carnity team has already done an incredible job of creating all the content, so it's just a matter of putting it in a single document, categorizing and indexing it, and making it available for download for every new member. It would also have Carnity's branding and legal disclaimers regarding liability. At the end of the document it could have a multiple choice test, where the reader could do a self-test to ensure they understand the most essential aspects of an off-road drive before they sign up for the drive. @Xaf and @Javier M thank you for your suggestions. @Wrangeld I totally agree with your point of view. I am sorry @Javier M if any of us ever gave you a feeling that you are not being heard. We pride ourselves on the fact that we keep the forum open to all for suggestions on how to improve. As for the checking to see if everyone has the equipment as per the level they are being promoted to, we keep our eyes open, because it is not only carrying the equipment but bringing it to good use. On trips all the seniors keep their attention towards the budding members to make sure they have their equipment and are actively involved to putting those to good use, only than the promotion is announced after taking a survey among the seniors. Promotions are not made on the whim of one person, but collectively and based on the guidelines we have already posted. You will find these points in writing only in @Carnity, I have driven with many clubs and can guarantee you that you will not find any other club in UAE which can give you in writing what you need to do to grow to the next level. @Carnity is also the only club that will provide you with a certificate once you cross your level from Intermediate onward. @Carnity is fairly young, only 3 years old and we are constantly striving and bringing about subtle changes to continue in harmony. We do recognise that the delays are not well taken by all in normal conditions, we respect everybody time and are experimenting with ways to establish on time departures. You will soon see the changes being made to establish a better on time departure, rather than having to wait for a few people getting late. @Javier M your suggestions are valuable and we will review it and definitely try to implement it in the best way possible.

This has just gone on sale in the UK. 1.6 turbocharged, 260 BHP, 265 Nm torque, 0-60 under 5.5, 4wd and available with torsen LSD front and rear. A proper WRC homologation car and should be fun to drive. I doubt if it will be released here.

It will be prudent to follow some basic steps - I hope the organizers agree on this - please refrain from joining if you have any symptoms of upper respiratory infection,cough or fever and get yourself checked with a Dr - avoid hand shakes and touching faces without washing or using sanitizer I hope this is taken in right spirit. Are you even seeing them when I was driving my lifted cherokee I wasn't even seeing them. They were coming too close and tailgating but when I look back I wasn't seeing anything because they were so close and my Jeep was too lifted simply they were out of my vision

The manual can have some liability clauses, and the stuff in the manual would not be different as the stuff in this forum so the same laws apply.

@Javier M You are right, that is even better. One main source on the forum, easily found to download the latest version of a manual. @Javier M Would it be smart to put the frequencies in such document with the threat it can spread around and might be used against the group in a court case?

Fantastic respect given to everyone Shamil except one person. That is YOU. We have been teaching patiently to over thousand offroaders but less than 10% reach to this level, because of their undying dedication and understanding of how basic community principal works on "Give" and "Take" and not only take, take, take. You truly deserve this because of the HUGE mindset change that you have recently develop and shown immense maturity in dealing with issues that could have been ignored by many. You boldly face them, resolve them and learn to move forward as a one strong family. Keep it up and you have a long way to surpass every one of us, one day.

I am not concerned about who is reading it or not, it is more a perspective of practicability and the use of technology we have. If you go to an existing WhatsApp conversation, you can access "Media, Links, and Docs". Instant access without the necessity to have internet. What if you are in the desert and you don't have access to internet, but you need to find something (Nearest Hospital), what about that on one day the internet/social media is scrambled due to tensions in this region but you need to reach one of the emergency numbers? The forum is run on internet traffic and I understand it is preferable/ necessary to gain traffic on the site. Just food for thought! (Just thinking a bit of redundancy when the technology is available)
