We are only allowed to drive through the desert, as we are driving on the road now. For members who are fasting, they can break their fast discreetly and convoy will be stopped during that time and until they offer their prayer. How to maintain "STRICT" Social Distancing Meeting point will be set slightly (100m - 200m) inside the desert track. So, that you individually deflate your tires on the tarmac before reaching the meeting point. While deflating tires, stop cars 10 meters away from any other car. Drive signup on calendar will be closed on Thursday morning by 9 AM. Convoy numbering and briefing will be posted here on this drive post before 6 PM on Thursday. All participants need to read & acknowledge the briefing by clicking "Totally Agree" reaction Switch on your radio when you reach the meeting point on the set frequency advised by the trip lead in the critical briefing here. Once everyone reach to the meeting point, everyone stay inside the car at all the times. Trip lead will do the roll call, convoy numbering recap, critical briefing over the radio. Any suggestions or issues will be discussed over the radio too. You can also speak to other members through the radio only. So please make sure that your radio battery is fully charged. Once all set, trip lead will start the drive as before. Refusal and Recoveries with Social Distancing Every drive will have 1 lead Marshal and 1 or 2 supporting senior members/crew. Whenever there is a stuck or refusal, only Marshal / Senior Member / Crew is allowed to handle the situation. Everyone else including the stuck car driver, stay inside the car - AT ALL TIMES. Marshal / Senior Member / Crew is only allowed to step out to access the situation and do the recoveries: They will wear mask and gloves at all times when they are outside their car. They will try to help self recover through the radio guidance. If not they will use required recovery gear and do the needful (shovel, tug or winch, as required). If at any time Marshal require help, then only you are allowed to step out by wearing face mask and gloves at all times. Drive completion and inflation Now, there will not be any gathering or sitting down together for food-break like before. Once drive is finished, after reaching the tarmac, everyone is requested to move away 50-100 meters before starting their inflation. For drivers having no compressor, can head to the near by fuel station. If drive is ending at a place where there is no fuel station near by, then trip lead will inform in advance so that drivers having their own compressor can join only. Now Strictly no more sharing of compressors, radio, shovel or any recovery gear, at any times. Mandatory things you require to attend the drive Face mask - at least TWO face mask is needed in case one get damage or fly away. Disposable rubber gloves - at least two sets are needed. Wear face mask and gloves at all the times, when you are out of your car. Carry plenty of hand sanitizer and object sanitizer (spray). Use your sanitizers generously, whenever you step out to help or recover. Sanitize your hands before getting back into your car. Sanitize your recovery gears, if you have used them. Fully charged radio - without any excuse - No radio = No drive. Shovel - Must for every car, to do little self recovery Safety flag - Must for every car, like before Compressor - If joining the drives that is ending far from the fuel station. Al Qudra, Pink Rock, Fossil Rock... after attending multiple drives in these common areas, I've realized how disrespectfully people are treating to desert. Reckless people leaving their garbage on desert... I remember seeing a garbage collection drive organized by Carnity on Youtube or on a thread. So how about we organize a garbage collection drive again? Since the number of members significant now. We can do a great cleaning. Multiple convoys with 4-5 cars to maximize cleaning area. We can even do this as a repeating event maybe in every month...I don't know if summer is suitable for this though... What do you guys think?

Must watch before the drive

Hereby I want to thank everybody for the birthday wishes and what a nice birthday present to receive in your e-mail box, that is what I call a surprise. Didn't expect the upgrade, I was enjoying the drives with helping out. When I started I was only excited for the rough stuff, but soon it became "normal". Once in a while it is excited to stretch your leg and push your car to the limit, but off-roading offers more then only going full throttle through the desert. I found my peace with helping out the Marshalls and analysing which mistakes the new joiners make. This keeps me busy in my mind and silently I am trying to understand how these mistakes could be avoided. Still, I have a lot to learn. The most difficult part of Off-roading is to instruct and teach others the technique and skills of this hobby. If somebody gets stuck, it might be easy in our eyes to get the car out of the situation. Many times, If we would jump behind the steering wheel, we could get the car out of it in a relative short time. But this is the art, now try to help and teach a person what he did wrong and get him/her out of the situation by him/herself. This is now my occupation and goal, how can I help others to become a better driver, I have a long way to go. Hereby I would like to thank @Rahimdad @Srikumar @Gaurav @Frederic @Emmanuel for the tips and tricks and the fine tuning of my skills. Please don't underestimate these guys. Love your idea and have done this with the kids behind our community in Al Qudra a few times. With the current restrictions it might be more difficult but not impossible.

It depends on the flag you purchased. If it's a light one, no issues.

Hi Ale, congrats. I would like to take this opportunity for all the drivers to have a moment and realise what is possible with a stock car. Ale's car is a stock FJ cruiser, correct me if I am wrong @Ale Vallecchi. I know Ale's driving style, we are a bit like Yin and Yang, good cop/ bad cop, Laurel and Hardy, how you want to call it. Where I am aggressive and push it, chases somebody's rear bumper, push a bit harder till the rev limiter, Ale is delicate, Italian scenery with style and romance, with fair and style. And still, he achieves the same, only his car is stock, mine is modified. After the drives, I am pushing back my bumpers in place, unfolding my license plate, Ale is inflating his tires and drives back home. You are a good driver and every time when we go a bit rough, I respect it what you do with your FJ cruiser. Yes, I loose you sometimes in my back mirror, but I don't ask for it anymore, because I know you'll find me back :). This is a show of respect to your driving style. Xaf

Hi @Frederic, this is Angela (Jamy's co-pilot). I wanted to join this drive but the limit is reached although some drivers have joined 2 different drives and I was led to believe that @Gaurav requested they were to join one drive only so that others, like me, could join at least one. Can I be added to the waiting list in case anyone drops out?

AOR suction mount (~ 250AED)is pretty sturdy provided the seal is on clean surface/glass. Best is to use few drops of water for a tight seal which will not fall off while driving. AOR flag ( ~ 200AED)is heavy but of the best quality . If you can get some custom made flag mount brackets (see picture attached , it is for a roof rack)probably will work out cheaper and sturdy. But you will have to check if it suits your vehicle

Congratulations @Ale Vallecchi. In the last few drives I saw plenty of recovery tug from you as it feels like you are a superhero with a rope in the trunk of FJ. Whenever someone stucks his/her car, instantly you are there and doing the tug with necessary gentleness.

I had a special mount installed. No direct experience with suction mounts, but I have seen most of them hold well enough.

Happy birthday and on top of that this promotion. Who said 2020 was a lost year ? 🤣 Congrats Xaf, you’re a quick learner and you understood that the more drives you do, the more experience you build up. And that includes sweeping in Newbie drives and being around for overall support. Those duties have brought you maturity and people looking up to you as a senior member and a guy that knows what he’s talking about. Looking forward to many more drives together !!

Hereby I want to open a discussion regarding flag mounts. An off road flag is an essential safety tool for off roading. I see more and more that people are using suction mounts in combination with a relative heavy flag. This combination is sold by off road shops as pair. A person would think, "well, if a reputable off road shop is selling me this, then this should work, no?" Maybe, but most probably not. Especially not the suction mount in combination with the 2 part flag of AOR. This flag is too heavy for a suction mount. I forgive you if you are new to this sport and your setup is not working, or your flag is falling down all the time. But from fewbie and above, I can't understand why you don't invest in a good mount. The most expensive garage will charge you 200 AED for a fixed mount. I am sure there are garages doing it for cheaper. A good setup is not only for your own safety or that of the others, but it gives you also more thinking capacity instead of worrying all the time that your flag will soon or later fall off when you're crossing a ridge. Besides that it is annoying that you have to step out to mount the flag again, it is also holding up the whole convoy. Please, post your solution, experience, combination of flag and mount. Tell us at which garage you did it, and if possible the price as well.

I bought the same 2 piece flag pole from AOR. However I custom made this piece to a metal workshop free of charge. 24mm of widht was wide enough to slide in to roof rail. So I can directly fix the flag pole to this piece... I've tested it for almost 5 drives now. It is working quite well. Sorry I don't have a photo of final product right now but if someone needs it just let me know. Note: Ignore "Welded" note between nut and steel plate. I've decided that, it's not necessary.

And I did have a problem once with my front right shock, so that's why I try to take it easy, especially on bumpy patches. I figured that before I put some money in the car (and will for sure, at least for the shocks) I ought to learn how to drive it. Plus I enjoy my drives so much that sometimes i prefer to relax and look at the dunes, before attacking them 😊. I guess I like to show them my respect. But as you said, driving styles should be different and yet compatible, so that everybody can learn from each other, as we have together in the last few months. It's great to see someone make an effort and go through old threads and videos to see our achievements. With the current heat I will not suggest it, however in college months we can have a desert clean up drive. One thing I have realized over time, people are not respectful and you can have a clean up drive every week and the following week you will find the same amount of garbage lying around. In my opinion an educational mindset would be more helpful. So having our facts right and approach anyone throwing anything out of the car and educating them about the cleanliness being a safety requirement for the animals and insect living in the desert. I was pleasantly surprised to see the ladies in @Ale Vallecchi car jumping out every time we had a stuck and picking up the garbage people had thrown away. Surely there must be several ways we can tackle this issue, and any ideas to educate the less respectful will be appreciated.

It largely depends on the weight of the flag. If it’s a light dune buggy flag it won’t be any issue. i have seen the AOR off-road flag which is quite heavy also on a AOR suction cup mount. But I think these suction cups are more heavy duty than the dragon mart ones. They also cost a lot more.
