Perfect drive with perfect set of 4x4 and off-roaders. With cooler morning breeze, it was an amazing early morning drive to see the sunrise from dunes (will post pic, later). Everyone showed on time except one, It's just that I have a soft corner for duster to test its off-road capability, so allowed him to join bit late but others might not. Thanks everyone else for being on time, so that we can start and finish as plan to enjoy the best morning for which we all wait for the whole week. Thanks @Jun Zamora for competent second lead and detour wherever required. @Kieran McKeown you and your duster are really rocking and continue learning the right basics so that you can enjoy off-roading always. @Lisa Pemberton you are doing great as always just learn to close the gap from the car in front of you, which tends to push you on wrong tracks (scary ones). I promise someday will do take you on those fewbie and Intermediate level tracks (sideys) too, once you are ready. @Veedooshee under the guidance on Anish learning and advancing very well that now she can no longer scare Anish, means you are surely ready for fewbie by next one more drive (I hope). @Sreejith Sreenivasan it was nice to see how you have tamed the LR2 and managing it perfectly fine without any struggle or refusal, keep it up. Thanks @sertac V.2.0 for brilliant support, patience and helping hand in managing the whole convoy with correct guidance and shoveling. We have driven after a long time and you have grown in this sport and maturity a lot. Well done. @sheri joined after a long time and still manage to sail the boat with full load without any refusal and stuck. Good to see you back, please catch up with forum topics in your free time. @Hennie Schoeman at the back still scratching the wrangler real potential, though I haven't heard your name on the radio, so I assume it must be all good. @Onlyjunaid kicking the wrangler convoy intact at back also done wonderful, he finally gave a chance to Sertac for single tow-rope recovery but Sertac decided to shovel him out in few minutes. Next time Junaid, you need to learn how to get proper cresting @topgear you really are a top gear, because you are grooming your son to be an off-roader from a such an early age and he reminded me of my son's age two years back (best innocent age). Enjoy your FJC, as they are made for off-roading and continue learning always. Last but not least @Nivin joined us after a gap and last I think we drove was in Solar Park in Feb/Mar. Thanks for being responsible sweep and taking care of the whole convoy at all times. Just because of such a wonderful off-roaders we reached Pink Rock by 7:00 and finished playing by 7:30. For next 1 hour I had a choice to head to Badayer, but I decided to play on big dunes just behind Pink Rock. This area is for fewbie, but being a cooler morning, virgin sand and great bunch of offroaders we all had a good spin in those creamy cheese cake (my analogy) dunes, where I can drive for hours and hours while making spagethi on my map app. Thanks everyone for your patience, support, excellent drive and understanding the COVID precautions. Trip Report from my perspective. The trip had not started yet and I was asked to help a stuck Range Rover who went camping with his family. (This was the Omen of the day, a day with refusals and stucks) The Range Rover had a crappy/flingy tow point, I made it clear with the owner that I was willing to help, but on the condition that if there is any damage at my car, that the costs would be on him. He agreed with this and with a gentle tuck I was able to get him out. Please be strong in this, because most of the times these guys are with friends and they all know it better and screaming next to car, YALLA YALLA YALLA. As I said, the first stuck was the omen of the day. Many refusals and stucks, but no shame. Due to the rain last week the terrain was not forgiving. Nevertheless I find that everybody was doing well. @Kalahari gave a good example what you should do if you can't make the criss cross, steer down and make a loop, gain momentum and try again. It should be obvious for the person behind that he should wait, but always announce it on the radio, so that the preceding and follower know what your intentions are. (Kalahari, this is not directed to you, but as a general note to everybody) @Rinelle Sanaani @Tbone , I debriefed you both about this. In general to all drivers, try to think as a group. If the convoy is not moving in front of you and the cars are coming from behind, try to imagine if there will be enough space for them. If space is available, move yourself, if not, please announce it on the radio so they will wait until the convoy is moving again. In these high dunes we often have no vision what is happening in front of us. @Febin Frederic was unfortunate today with a flat tire. I think you cut your sidewall on a bush or stone somewhere. It can happen to everybody. But please first thing you should do, is to find the correct size lug wrench. (we were lucky we had the correct size for you) You have a perfect spare wheel with same tire, not really useful without a lug wrench. So to everybody, check your tools, does your wrench fit on your lug nuts? Don't assume it will! @Kalahari @Najeeb Mohammed @Febin Frederic @Rinelle Sanaani @Tbone You drove all well this morning, I liked what I've seen. Little bit fine tuning, little bit more trust what your car can do, feeling of how much momentum you need, again, it is summer and the terrain is not forgiving. @Colin Jordan @Michael sammy @Brette I think you were all doing well with Colin the least struggling and Brette was left with a chewed up track. I was getting hungry and when I am hungry I am not the same Xaf. Due to the heat and time, I did not take time to explain why I wanted that you pull him from the front. To clarify to everyone, it was possible from both sides, 50/50 in my opinion, but due to other cars around and instead of pulling first in reverse and then try again to get over the ridge, it makes more sense to just pull the car out of the shit, instead of dealing with the shit twice. Drive Report The early morning always has something in store for us, when i left the house I felt a cool breeze and was excited to head out to Al Qudra for some morning exercises ! Our plan was to head out south to the long range dunes near Solar Park. A target we reached within the hour, which says a lot about the quality of drivers and support team. We passed by the little bowl we found several months back and both @Chaitanya D and @Mels Wolf made the perfect sidey from all the way around. Spot on ! I decided to cross the road and go to the other side, which I have explored in the past but not with a Newbie convoy. We all kept our momentum and passed some creamy but also technical dunes where we had to be very focused and rely on good communication. Thankfully with @Melenany in second lead that gave good tips and hints to the rest of the convoy, and @Chaitanya D that was super helpful as my center forward, we were able to put down 48kms in just a bit less than three hours. We exited near the love lakes entry and looking at the smiles of the drivers I felt it was another good drive. @Mels Wolf who brought his father in law to help shoveling could stay in the car most of the time today 😜 I thank you all for this amazing drive and was really impressed with all of you. Even the biggest cars were sliding through the scenery without any hassles. On to the next one !!

Really enjoyed today, learning so much each time I drive about how the Pajero handles in sand. Got a double arm workout this week wrestling with the steering wheel on that side dune refusal and a nice face and carful of sand for leaving my driver's window open 🤦‍♀️. Thanks @Gaurav and @sertac for digging me out and explaining very clearly how I need to respond in these situations. Looking forward to the next one!

What a ride!!!😊 I had another amazing morning drive at the pink rock led by @Gaurav. It was a really enjoyable pace drive with its own challenges and am sure we have all learnt a lot today as well. Really well driven everyone! We made it to the top of Pink rock and back down through some more technical dunes and slightly faster pace very nicely. As @Gaurav said on the radio, he was trying some difficult dunes to take the chance to see if we can manage. I am happy that the whole team managed beautifully today. Thank you so much @Gaurav for this fantastic drive..great guidance..and help always.. Special thanks to @sertac for helping with the refusals as well as keeping an eye on the convoy.. Also thanks to @Nivin for being the sweep today and keeping the convoy together... Kudos to the whole team, keep going...👍

Morning guys, What an amazing drive with all of you, great pace and I and @Frederic didn’t have to break much sweat on the very few stucks. But a great hand goes out to all who have practiced and mostly successfully done their self-recoveries. @Melenany, showing how mostly not to get crested with the insanely long F-150!! @Islam Soliman which I have almost not seen or heard which means an amazing drive! All FJ’s showing how to drive them @Christian Andras who has made a GoPro video, @David Ortells and @Heisem showing they don’t get stuck! Also the Xterra crew lead by @Chaitanya D who was awarded father of the day by his son! And @Mukundan Nair and @Ahmed Farghaly closing the Xterra’s. Fantastic morning drive @Frederic and @Mels Wolf. Kudos to all drivers for maintaining good pace and managing well. The smile on my son's face said it all 😊, thanks Mels. Meanwhile the camels we saw were also moving like in a convoy, maintaining distance . I wonder if they ever get stuck? 🤣

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

Indeed. I don’t believe in killing something unless you’re going to eat it. Chasing it for fun is even worse. It’s tantamount to torture. Even then it should be killed humanely as possible. Even cockroaches I try to catch and put it outside. But, some people aren’t capable of empathy. It’s sad but that’s the way the world is.

Now that we are just a few hours away from the start of drive, it's a reminder to everyone who are joining with us tomorrow to read the COVID-19 regulations. We need your formal acknowledgement and commitment to comply with them by clicking on the "Totally Agree" emoji button inside the COVID post. PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on or before time, i.e., 5:00 AM sharp. 2) The senior members on the drive would be Me and @Vanessa8580. 3) Since most of you would be joining us for the first time, please spend 15 minutes to go through the Absolute Newbie briefing Video. This would help you prepare for your first offroad trip. 4) Once you reach the meeting point, those who have the radios please turn them on. We will be using Carnity Channel 4 tomorrow. (446.08125 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post 5) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. If it requires pulling the fuse, please do the needful. Incase of any queries you can always ask the senior members. 6) Deflate to 15 psi. Incase if you have any difficulties you can approach the senior members who would assist you. 7) Feel free to ask questions on the radio or announce if you have a problem. We shall be starting the drive close to Hamari well and will enter the desert through some nice easy tracks and dunes so that you can get familiar with your vehicle. As the convoy's confidence increases I shall be gradually increasing the level of the drive keeping in mind everyone's comfort level. We will be driving for about 3 hours, practice driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle accustomed to off-roading in general. By 08:30 we will be heading out towards the last Exit at Al Qudra, where you can inflate the tyres either with your compressor or from the gas station. See you on the sand tomorrow.

Nope I didn’t touch it but I would love to know the diagnostic process they followed to come to the conclusion that the PCM is faulty. Not saying it isn’t faulty but I would be even more interested to hear how this happened from a simple radiator change. My guess is that somehow or other the mechanic managed to short something out. Maybe working on the car with the ignition turned on and touched a metal tool somewhere it wasn’t supposed to touch. Who knows, it’s just speculation. @syed salman raza Any chance you could post a copy of the diagnostic report for us to analyse? Mechanic should have given you one. @Frederic that’s a good topic to discuss. I’ve heard a lot of different opinions from a lot of different welders on it. Some say it’s ok, some say you will fry the battery, some say even if you disconnect both battery terminals the PCM is still connected to the frame by a metal bolt so it will still get spiked. I’ve been working on cars for many years but I don’t like to make experiments with other peoples cars so I can’t answer to these different situations. One welder friend told me once to leave the battery connected and put a protection device on the battery terminals. I bought one and I’ve always done that and never had any issues welding on a car. But who knows, welding isn’t one of my strong points.

Dear fellow Adventirers In preparation for tomorrow's PM drive, the convoy will move in the following order: 2.@Kalahari in Second Lead, followed by 3. @Jolly Abraham 4. @Shiju Manuel 5. @Salarios 6. @Lucky sAm 7. @Wrangeld at Center Forward 8. @Anish S 9. @Chaitanya D 10. @Rinelle Sanaani 11. @Lorenzo Candelpergher 12. @Frederic in Sweep position Given this variety of situations, keeping in mind that ideally this wishes to be a relatively long drive (up to 60 Km), and considering that it's getting dark sooner, I would like to kindly ask all the drivers to ARRIVE AT THE DEFLATION POINT NO LATER THAN 4:15PM, AND BE READY TO LEAVE BY 4:30PM. We will drive communicating on Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). As already mentioned this wishes to be an exploratory drive of the Western Qudra Basin in the direction of Little Swehian, to the South-West. I have had the opportunity of scouting this area recently, and have found it to be made of a mix of terrains, in order of appearance: 1) sets of long range dunes, where navigation is somewhat easier, and some side-sloping and safe ridge cresting can be practiced, 2) some technical dunes (which we'll do our best to avoid, due to their tightness) which will slow the convoy down and will require to keep safe distances, and very careful driving, 3) several sabkhas, where we will be able to pick up our pace and finally, if we'll manage to get as far as Little Swehian, 4) challenging dune bowls, following long cordons, with relatively tight space in between, and some soft sand patches. We will try to use the easier terrain (sabkhas and sand tracks) as much as possible, to be able to spend more time in the longer range dunes, and possibly in Little Swehian. Nonetheless, no matter how much we try to make the drive approachable, this particular mix of terrains will require your full attention and concentration. I recommend those avid desert goers who will also enjoy a morning drive to PLEASE SLEEP, TAKE A NAP, REST, and come refreshed to the drive. Have a great end of the week, and see you all tomorrow.
