Many people have doubts about which engine type of Pajero they should buy, and specifically which will perform best in the desert. Mitsubishi provides the engine performance curves on their brochure but as they are not comparative i wanted to compare the 3.5 6G74 , and 3.8 6G75 engines from the 4th Generation Pajero (2008 till YTD). In above charts you will see the performance of both engines with Output in Kilowatts and Torque in Nm. When you layer these over each other you will get the following: Conclusive results: Output kw or Horsepower: The 3.8 engine performs the best with a max output of 250Hp at 6000rpm, while the 3.5 engine reaches its peak output of 189Hp at 4,750rpm. Up to 4500 rpm both engines react and perform quite similar, which would indicate for driving in the dunes they will perform similar, except for hill climbs where you will need to go beyond that rpm. The 3.8 clearly has the upper hand at that point. Torque: Again the 3.8 shows higher torque values with a max. of 327Nm at an rpm of 2,750rpm, while the 3.5 model reaches 306Nm at 3,750rpm. In Carnity Offroad Club we have seen 3.5 Pajeros performing very well, and while the 3.8 engine has the upper hand when it comes to high-rev hill climbs, they are both capable offroad engines that will do well in the right hands. Purpose of this topic is to consult your engine performance and try to find the "sweet spot" in at which your engine and torque level would be the best for that particular application. From these charts it is quite clear that the 3.5 engine needs to be used more on a lower rpm range and with the proper momentum. Of course these values are theoretical and one will find big differences between each vehicle depending on how well it was maintained, how old the engine is, or if there are issues with the vehicle (spark plugs, injectors, air filter issues). We have plenty of Pajero owners, so let's discuss and learn from each other !

@Frederic nice to see what the difference in the engine delivers. I guess when coupled with the SWB body, that performance differential expoains why and how the SWB climbs adequately without the use of tiptronic and when TT is engaged how this has capabiltiies that are more challenging in the LWB. Since I bought my little Paj, and the gear change problem was solved it power is not the issue: using road tires as opposed to something more aggressive and matching shocks/springs to optimize the power would transform the experience without moving the car into the modified classification. I am a some stage thinking about a unichip to rid the engine of the shift at 5200 rev (other posts cover this), which I think will potentially create a pretty perfect power weight ratio (to make up for the additional weight that will be added by a new crash plate!)

it was pleasure driving with you @Chaitanya D for my first intermediate drive. it was a challenging morning due to thick fog in the early hours and navigating through initial technical dunes with reduced visibility. I really appreciate your hard work and assistance to team members on fixing the pop out in a very tricky place. we lost lot of time there fixing the pop out, But you managed to give us lost time by extending the drive time little bit more. Thank you very much for consideration. we all enjoyed riding on beautiful and long dunes in faqa area, it was a really good experience and cant wait to get back to sands to do some more practice. cheers...

Trip Report: Foggy mornings and cool weather is a perfect prelude to start your joy ride, especially in Tawi Nazwa/Pink Rock/Big red area. We gave about 15 min extra time considering the fog and the darker situation with poor visibility. All drivers arrived well in time and ready to go. We did a quick debrief and started our foggy drive with lights on. Thank you Vanessa for the numbering and radio checks As soon as we started to enjoy the light getting better and the dunes becoming more visible, I heard a car honking and driver waving at me. We drove towards him and he was seeking if we could help as his friends car had a tire pop out from what I understood. Driving towards the other LC which was crested- probably revving and doing sand splashing, the tire was not popped out but ripped off from the wheel. We had a chat and decided to help them, which is something we all at Carnity are never shy to do. I tugged the car out onto flat and we all changed their tire in quick time, thanks to everyone for the amazing team work. After spending some time here , and the light getting better we continued our drive towards pink rock. Quickly getting onto the top, playing there , before we had four cars in a super soft bowl considering the long weekend churning all tracks. Ashok , and Veedoshee did some amazing self recovery and maneuvering to get out of that bowl. Thanks Vanessa for some fantastic advises , and Islam for tugging me when I got stuck trying to see what was happening. We drove around pink rock, headed towards Big Red which was in and out of bowls like a roller coaster, bumpy of course considering the million cross tracks. Everyone drove so well here that there was absolute Radio silence for almost 45 to 60 min before we took a break. We were at Big red in decent time safely, and played here doing climbs, tall sides and some criss crossing. You all drove really well that we could make it to Big Red ,even after losing time at the start. @Islam Soliman was a perfect second lead, awesome team man and a perfect tamer of his beast Yukon. Great to have you on any drive and thanks for all the support. @Ashok chaturvedi much improved , great driving in and out of bowls. You did really well to oscillate, get momentum and out of the soft bowl at Pink rock, great work Sir @Veedooshee for her first FB + was simply awesome. Great control and some great self recoveries, very energetic as always and full of enthusiasm. @jodha singh shekhawat you have a great car which can be pushed further safely as you get more used to it. You did really well without any issues and sticking to basics.Well done @Yousef Alimadadi did a great job as center forward, and there weren't much instances where he had to come out to shovel /tug. Thank you for all the support. @Abu Muhammad driving a controlled monster was seen having a great time, especially at Big red. I absolutely love the roar of the V8 climbing the dunes and ruffling sand. @Piotr Kolodziej enjoyed the dunes approaching big red area. Controlled driving and maneuvering, considering he was at the back.Well done buddy @Mohamed Seidam did great being at the back of the convoy. Some nicely managed self recoveries , fantastic communication and acknowledgement. Climbing Big red on the X was a treat to watch, well done @Vanessa8580 was late addition to the drive as support , and I must say she was amazing at it. Always getting in quickly to help and advise anyone who had an issue and great to see the energy you bring on any drive by your presence. Ground Zero Sound Proofing (5 sheets used) .. main install on door card and inside of front doors. They were generous and thorough with where they applied the stuff. Ground Zero 8” component kit (includes cross over and tweets) including fitting it cost a total 1600aed. I feel it’s a foundation for the next upgrade (adding an amp + underseat sub)

Trip Report : The Liwa Experience Liwa is an experience that every offroader should have, as Liwa challenges not just the car but the driver as well in every possible manner. Not only does one come across massive dunes, you encounter super soft sand which tests your patience and ability to overcome the obstacle as a team. Congratulations to all the Newbies that participated yesterday in the Liwa Moreeb Drive. We made history by being probably the first club to bring Newbies to the actual Liwa Moreeb Dunes. Credit for this concept goes to @Gaurav and I was proud and privileged to be a part of this adventure. With some very good coordination and team work we reached the top of the Moreeb Dunes by using the step technique.This was possible due to the good quality of Newbies that participated plus the fantastic support team ( @Pancho@Janarthan @Tbone @Vanessa8580 ) that were brave enough to take up the challenge and make ifhe entire drive a super success. All the particpating drivers brought out their best throughout the day and the cherry on the cake was the scaling of the monstrous Tal Moreeb (Scarry Hill) dune. By 4 pm we were joined by the remaining 4 other Carnity convoys. It was truly a wonderful sight to have 5 convoys (55 cars) of Carnity Liwa drive at the top of the Tal Moreeb dune.
