What a beautiful day it was. and moreover what a beautiful drive to start new level. 😎 @Srikumar I highly admire your leadership skills, the way you kept us giving confidence and making us believe on our ride ever than before, its phenomenal. They way you dealt with every challenge thrown your way, is the clear picture that we are in a right group with the right people. I literally enjoyed every bit of it. My favorite part was obviously making up to the top of the bowl with my baby elephant roaring like a lion, and I literally felt like a cowboy riding a tamed bull, Hats off.🤠 Tough luck for our fellow Drivers @Yasas Dharmadasa & @Athula Dharmadada with their beasts breaking down. hopefully, we will have drive together soon. I can not thank enough to our 2 additional heroes with their Mad Max style Rigs, @Abu Muhammad and @Ahab Shamaa. Trip Report It's been a while since I have been so satisfied after a drive. With a last minute back out of my previous IM drive, when @Foxtrot Oscar mentioned that she might not be able to do the drive, I immediately jumped on it with both hands. Thanks Angela for letting me lead this drive. The adrenaline is still racing a bit when I reminisce the events of yesterday, and the full credit goes to the entire convoy for keeping up the pace thought the drive. Honestly, at one point I stopped looking at the rear view mirror and kept driving as I was quite confident that everyone would make it through. What is even more commendable is that we had a lot of first time IMs with us, and they also matched up the pace. And also wherever it was not possible to scale the full height they would exit out early and then reroute to rejoin the convoy. This is an important lesson for all Intermedtae drivers that it's important to understand your car limitation and keep continuously driving so that the convoy doesn't stop. Well done. @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQQ was my second lead and he did a fantastic job of keeping the right distance, stopping when he noticed me struggling and following instructions to reroute the convoy. We had @Ahab Shamaa and @Abu Muhammad who provide a lot of support in helping recover the stuck cars when needed. Unfortunately the drive did have it's fair share of casualties with @Yasas Dharmadasa radiator pipe coming loose and his car overheating in one bowl, followed by a busted radiator for @Athula Dharmadada at Super bowl. It again stresses the importance of having well maintained cars (probably more maintenance than what you do with a road driven car) while doing fast paced IM drives. Since we were only half way into the drive when Yasas car had overheated, we decided to leave it behind and continue with the drive, and come back after an hour to pick it up. We then had the second incident with Athula's car, just after he scaled Super Bowl. While it was clear that Athula's car would need a mechanic to get it repaired, we were still hopeful that we could go back and get Yasas's car out. That's when we started a night drive session. Unfortunately, with some crank noise coming from his engine it was best to leave it and to get a mechanic the following day. Hope you guys are able to sort out the issue. Fantastic driving by the entire convoy of @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ @Rizwan Waheed@Athula Dharmadada @Yasas Dharmadasa@Abu Muhammad @Ilya Golubinsky @Ashok chaturvedi @siddharth maheshwari @Jack Thomas @Ahab Shamaa . You all did really really well and I hope you enjoyed the ride. As for myself, I hope that I would be able to drive with you guys in the near future on the same route and traverse some of the dunes that we missed yesterday. Till then, take care and drive safe.

Drive Report Words cant describe how amazing this drive was! Today's drive packed with high speed maneuvering, tall dune climbs and technical dunes, easily makes its way to the top my Best Drives list. Everyone was on time and deflated, allowing to enter the sand as early as possible and make the most out of the drive. I was given the position of 2nd Lead, and I enjoyed every bit of it, especially rerouting and scouting. We had a small number of stucks, which was expected due to the difficulty level of the terrain, but we all managed to helped each other out of them. My car managed to climb Super Bowl all the way to the TOP, 3 times. It really managed to surprise me with such an amazing performance. Also this was the BEST part of the drive and everyone just loved roaring their engine up the bowl. Unfortunately, @Yasas Dharmadasa & @Athula Dharmadada both had their cars rendered unmovable due to some major issues, hope you guys will be able to retrieve your cars without much trouble. While we were dealing with the car problem, Time decided not to stop, and it wasn't long until it was pitch black, turning an afternoon drive into a night drive. Which was an AMAZING new experience, adding a lot more thrill to the drive. Plus it allowed me to use my extra lights that were just sitting and rusting tbh 😂. @Srikumar You were such an amazing lead today, throwing challenges at us one after another, it was really awesome. Loved every bit of it. Thank you! @Ahab Shamaa It had been a while since we last met, It was a nice little reunion 😂. Drive Report This drive was a perfect opportunity to leave all the metropolitan stress behind and fully immerse into the beautiful landscapes that nature has to offer. We went across several photogenic locations as we wandered towards the mountains way at the back. After a long relaxing drive we eventually caught up to the receding mirage of RAK's mighty mountains and continued to make our way through them. Everyone drove extremely well, with us having no major stucks and only minor refusals, hence allowing us to make the most of the drive. Unluckily @Abu Muhammad's Mighty Sequndra was not in a mood for a relaxing drive, probably it was hungry for a tougher challenge 😂. Either ways we had to escort his out onto tarmac. @Frederic Thanks a ton for leading such an amazing drive. You were really active and interactive, making the drive feel more 'alive'. @Melenany @Jeepie I can tell you guys did a great job all the way at the back considering the fact that everyone made it out safely without any trouble 😂, Well done guys. This was extreme for sure! At times more INSANE than extreme. Nearly 90 km through hectic climbs, high-speed crossings when climbing at full RPM in 1st gear, non-stop concentration from the word go. Thanks for the exhilarating lead @Emmanuel - you took us through routes that I would have never guessed is achievable with stock cars!!! And sometimes twice from different approaches. Well done to fellow extreme Ramblers @Christian Andras and @Jorge Stepniak Felippe

Trip Report: It was fantastic to see you all abide by the COVID precautions - Kudos to you all and a big thank you. If we don't follow it repeatedly untill this uncertainty is over we risk cancelling drives which we all don't want. Well done all of you. Some Learning Points: we all have made these mistakes and you will only get better every time you are stuck - Keep pace with the convoy, have a close watch on the car in front and try to repeat the same maneuver - In this area where we have some bowls as we drive through, getting in and out of bowls is all but simple physics. You use the momentum gained getting in to throttle up your car and drive through. If you lose momentum in the bottom of the bowl then it is a hard way out. - Make sure your caps for radiators and oil gauges are closed properly. - Momentum is the key in soft sand, as long as you are moving it is fine. If you are not moving then more gas means you are digging yourself more. @Abdul Rahman Abdul Kader played the role of 2nd lead to perfection, thank you my dear @Navkriti was driving for 2nd time . Well driven in most of the areas , except when you were in a spot where the sand was soft. But you did well to follow the instructions while recovering you. It only gets better as you drive more. @Rajendran D drove his pajero well, hardly any issues - well done. @Natarajan driving a pajero following Rajendran was fantastic , safe in all the areas including the tricky ones. @Soumya Saklani well done on some nice self recoveries , and getting out of bowls. I hope now you get a feel of how to get in and out of bowls, which will improve definitely. @Antony Calvin managed his Prado well, did some nice self recovery. You have a gat car which will handle any terrain thrown at it. @Tbone thank you so much for your support and managing the center forward position well, very crucial on any drive. Welcome back!! @Pacific managed his wrangler well, no issues at all or hardly any. @Danish Mohammad I hope your request to drive with Abdul R was smooth as I really appreciate your understanding on the one drive RSVP till Wednesday. Well driven and I hope you enjoy your new found desert drive - SWB Pajero. @Chris Meir did really well being at the back on churned tracks. Perfect control on the hill climbs , sideys and the climb up to pink rock. Well done ! @Gavin Hill driving a mighty Hummer managed really well , sweeping all of us to perfection. Fantastic control and always acknowledging which was great. Thank you all for your patience while we were managing some tricky recoveries, which is all part of team sport and learning on drives with Carnity. Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Our convoy will be slightly shorter than usual (10 cars in total, including me). Also, please consider carefully if you wish to bring passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 1 (446.00625MHz). See tomorrow afternoon, ready to go (i.e. already deflated and flagged) by no later 3:30pm (sharp). Considering the limited time available, we won’t be waiting for late comers.

Yes thanks @Srikumar your leadership and night navigation was commendable.. though once I did do night as sweep with with you but the terrain was not so challenging as last evening. I purposely did not tax my new FJ too much on the climbs coupled with my bruised rib. I am sorry for the two drivers who had to leave behind their vehicles for mechanical issues. I wish to thank all our fellow drivers but expectionally my dear friend @Ahab Shamaa and @Abu Muhammad..

@Srikumar you were the man! Yesterday encompassed everything what I thought of being at intermediate and offroading was all about - and more! Great leadership and everyone involved was fully involved and engaged with each other. We definitely have to do that route again with the cars and drivers that are well equipped, we were doing some unbelievable driving and skills. Even having my car feel (and very nearly) like it was about to roll, was a fun, scary and big self-learning with help from the team 😅😂😂

@Chaitanya D, Thank you for the beautiful drive, loved the terrain you choose. Thank you for trusting me with the 2nd lead position, I was not sure if I would coupe up with your pace but fortunately you didn't get the opportunity to drive the way you do 😜 Thank you @Tbone and @Gavin Hill for the support in this drive and making it easier at font to lead. everyone in the convoy did excellent and kept the enthusiasm through out the drive inspite of the few stucks where everyone waited very patiently. Great drive, really enjoyed each and every moment of it! The troop started on time following @Fredericpath on rather hard sand. The drive unwinded over tracks, small dunes, camel crossings (many... I wonder what they think seeing these strange humans moving around the desert inside these metal boxes with wheels!) and some little stretches of tarmac to connect different legs of the drive. The drive moved on smoothly, little refusals here and there and apparently the quickest pop out fix of carnity history and here we were under the shade of some trees for the lunch break. After, the scenery changed completely, with our cars squeezing through a narrow rocky canyon, where wadi bed stones replaced sand dunes. Only sad point was not being able to share some food together due to the restrictions in place... let's hope to get back to the pre covid life soon! Personally I like a lot this sort of longer and more "panoramic driven" drives, where the challenge is to keep concentration up for a longer time. Thanks @Frederic and @Jeepie for guiding us, to the ladies and gentlemen who drove safely and to all who came oveor and enjoyed the day! Pics and a couple of videos in the drive gallery as usual.

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

@Kalahari thank you. It’s been a lot of fun and adrenaline, indeed, thanks to you and @Christian Andras and @Jorge Stepniak Felippe. When, as a drive leader, you see that your convoy is not left 500m behind and that you almost never hear “refusal!”, you know that you can engage your 3rd gear 😉 I agree, it was extreme, but I wouldn’t qualify it as “insane” as we never crossed the red line regarding safety... at least I hope so!

@Frederic Sorry for the late response. I faced the heating problem on my second drive itself. I fixed the extra cooling fan and did not face heating issue for long time even in summer. But rarely I get the same issue even if the cooling fan is on. However I think the cooling fan will solve the issue. 1) Pajero model (3.5 or 3.8) - 3.5 2) KMs done so far - 170000 3) Has the transmission oil already been replaced ? If so when ? - Yes, Aug 2020 4) Do you drive in tiptronic or normal “D” ? Most of the time I drive in 'D', rarely I use triptronic. 5) Tyre pressure when off-roading? - 14psi

Dear friends Please allow me to tell my own experience and approach ,and this is me , as I was having this fire of passion inside of me toward this inherently risky motor sport. I started from the scratch with an incident that can avert anyone of taking a second chance. For me it was “ what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger “ and “ we always fall to stand up again “ .... And guess what when I was promoted to fewbie the next drive I did was newbie and by the time I got to IM the next one was F+ ... some one may finds it strange but for me helped me to see the bigger picture . Yesterday I was sweeping in Rhahim’s bhai drive and it was different when I did sweep as fewbie couple weeks ago . trust me friends the more you do the more you know and the more burden comes on your shoulder and as a trip lead ( I am not ) the safety is red line that Carnity cannot compromise at any cost Viva to all desert lovers who share the trust and love among each other . Wow @Ilya Golubinsky, I didn't know you have the 360 degree camera as well. Brilliant footage and now I can imagine exactly what everybody is talking about. Really happy to see amazing understanding and throttle and steering control to manage in a huge but churned up dune area. After a rather quick deflation and getting the cars ready we started the briefing over the radio. We started of on some nice easy long range dunes which surprisingly had very little of cross tracks. Everyone managed really well on some broad ridge riding, small U turns, etc. We then started moving to some of the shorter range dunes to cross over to the other side, and that when the drive started to through some nice challenges. A couple of simple but time consuming recoveries were needed for some of the cars. But the rest of the convoy did an amazing job of following the tracks which I was quite wonderful to see. Well done everyone, as the track was definitely a bit challenging and many of you were driving on the sand for the very first time. A big shout of thanks to @Tamas Hoffmann and @Nabil Bishara for supporting the drive in all possible manners. Much appreciated guys. Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7:10 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot. If you miss a spot, put your name on the waitlist asap. Generally, by Thursday with dropouts everyone does get a spot if they have waitlisted. For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum. If the drive is downgraded to fewbie plus then it will be my 2nd fewbie plus drive which makes me eligible for the promotion as all the other required number of drives in fewbie for the promotion to intermediate has been exceeded and are over.

Dear Desert Wanderers, So far only @Ashok chaturvedi, @Gaurav Soni, @Mohamed Seidam, @Jack Thomas, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe and @Tariq Carrimjee are confirmed for this drive. Unfortunately @Hisham Masaad, @Junaid120120 and @Thomas Varghese do not qualify for this drive and have been removed from the RSVP. It should be said, however, that, in consideration of the limited number of Intermediate participants, we may consider to downgrade the drive to a Fewbie+. A final decision will be made by tomorrow, Sunday 21st, by 5pm and you will all be timely informed.

A small summary of the replies we received: Thanks to everyone for the detailed information ! I think we can come to the following conclusions: 1) Driving in Manual (tiptronic mode) seems to give some relief. However it's important to keep the car in the right gear and not toggle between gears all the time. The trick is to minimize the shifting. 2) If above does not resolve the issue, an auxiliary fan could be the first option. 3) Depending on the severity of the problem and your personal driving style (intense offroading vs calm offroading) you can opt for replacing the stock transmission cooler with a bigger model. If the vehicle is still in warranty this is best to avoid. I agree with the statement that the Pajero in D mode sometimes has the tendency to upshift and downshift quite often. There are a few reasons for this: 1) The ECU "learns" from your driving style and changes the gear shifts accordingly. If you drive the car slow and economically during the week, it will be constantly upshifting and downshifting on the off-road drive as it notices your driving style has changed completely. 2) During offroading and especially in technical terrains it's as driver not easy to keep your foot stable on the pedal. If you constantly change your throttle, the car will try to follow what you want and it will upshift and downshift all the time. Hence driving in manual mode and avoiding the constant shifting helps to minimize the transmission from heating up. I remember @Vanessa8580 telling me that she can keep the car in 2nd gear most of the time, and only kicks it back in 1st gear whenever she needs to attack a dune or hill climb. She never faced overheating issues (2008 3.8 model).

Driving always on tiptronic has solved my transmission overheating problem. I'm driving on 1-2 and sometimes 3rd gear only during offroad. I believe the problem with Pajeros is that the poor automatic gear responses on "D" mode - it is definitely switching late! During off-road, when it is finally engaged to a gear as per your speed, it is generally too late and your rpm has already changed to another. So it is struggling to comply by constantly changing the gear and simply causes overheating... Transmission overheating problem started during my early intermediate drives (mine is 3.5 2017 LWB) and finished when I started to use tiptronic. If it is even happening on newbie drives, sounds a bit strange and I think something is wrong with the new model pajeros.
