  1. With the pleasant weather these days, we decided to head out to Wadi Naqab with the aim of doing a bit of wadi driving and a hike of a couple of hours. PART 1 - EASY WADI DRIVE The first meeting point of the Wadi is here: 25.70380, 56.06568 https://goo.gl/maps/d4YQpADWo5w2AXHF8 From here you can park if you have a sedan, but it will be a long hike to head into the actual wadi. It is recommended to have a 4x4 / SUV and drive further into the wadi. We were able to park here: 25.71719, 56.11140 https://goo.gl/maps/K8d8BSt2JbyVqe3b8 PART 2 - EASY WADI HIKE This first part (purple) is like walking in a riverbed and is not difficult at all. You can visit the Wadi Naqab cave on the track itself. Nothing special but cool to have a short walk inside. Its not that deep. PART 3 - MODERATE WADI HIKE If you feel adventurous, the second part (in green) becomes moderately hard: 25.72103, 56.12474 https://goo.gl/maps/zGjHQFKWEroC5sdRA From here you will need to actually climb over big boulders and navigate your way through it. Not hard, but for a regular couch potato it becomes quite a bit of challenge perhaps We managed to go up to the purple pinpoint, and then decided to turn back as we met other people that told us to reach the end it was easily another 1 hour. 25.71943, 56.13054 https://goo.gl/maps/PkMpTkuFUxQEfe4f8 According to Google Maps, there is a pool further down called Wadi Koub (perhaps another 1,5hrs), we will aim for that the next time perhaps. That part is in red on the above map. Some precautions: - There is no cell phone signal in the mountains - Bring at least 1.5-2 liter of water per person - Wear long pants and hiking boots to avoid twisting your ankle. Ambulance is not nearby ! rak-wadi-naqab-pt2-moderate.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-pt1-easy.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-drive.gpx

  2. Ok! This drive calls for a report. The Raid on Sauron's Kindgom Closer to the drive date, the convoy got thinner and some of us were awaiting the dreaded news of the drive being called off. @Ale Vallecchi, the professional that he is, was determined to raid the Eye of Sauron even if alone. @Ishak surprised us with his support a day before the drive and the 4 of us were waiting for the crack of dawn. The convoy of 4 were bang on time at the starting point and with one of the quickest briefs, we started our raid at 7:48 am. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for letting me sweep the convoy, din have to bother about my tracks for the cars behind With the battle-plan in mind, we made our way through the bushes and the technical dunes, stealthily inching closer to the direction of the eye of sauron, only revving our engines when necessary to climb, so as to not alert the security of the fortress. We crept on, dune after dune until we could see the glimmering eye of sauron. Keeping the eye of sauron to our left, we raced on the sabkha to get a closer view of the tower and to plan our way out. Oh! the way out. We thought it was hard to get to the tower but running away from it was brutal. The technical terrain at the start of our drive tested our control and concentration to the max but we quickly realized that it was just a practice session for what was about to come. We had a quick stop to check our way in, on the map and ale prepared us for what was about to come. One word - Treacherous The way out was the tightest technical dunes with soft bowls and we took the hard way of getting out of them - Riding along the ridges rather than going straight up and down. Concentration? what concentration? We became one with the vehicle and slowly ploughed our way out. Again, very less engine, more steering and control. The convoy had one job, follow the line or get sucked in. It was like navigating a minefield. Once out of the tight dunes, we did a couple of sideys on some wide range dunes and reached the pylon track at 11:48 am. Raced to the deflation point and called it a day. The grinning faces said it all. Couldn't have asked for a better marshall and a better convoy. @Ale Vallecchi You do magic in the sands sir @Ahmad NeratBro, The way you drove that LC today. Hats off man! you came out with your bumpers intact too Thank you for the pics and the video bro. @Ishaq Muhammad Man, The YinYang is here to stay. Great control on the revs and your self recoveries were amazing bro. Just reverse a bit slowly next time Until next time in the sand guys!

  5. @Islam Soliman thanks for a wonderful drive today really enjoyed it, it had a little of everything and tested the newbies whom all stepped up and answered the call amazingly well. @Jesper Weltstrรถm @lucas amat @george charbel@Ben Lee @James Lovell @Usman Basit @Juzer Gandhi @Misha Puskar you guys drove superbly which made our jobs of supporting you so much easier. yes the sand was a little harder than usual after the rains of the past few weeks, however, that does not take anything away from the skill you guys showed us today as you took on every challenge head on and over come each and every one. Well done to all. @Misha Puskar hope you are feeling better and I would like to wish you a speedy recovery @James Lovell brilliant SL my friend you managed it like a true professional and of course my good friend @Fabien Monleau great support in the CF position, we had very little to do but what we did manage to do we did well. Thanks for the great support. Wishing you all a restful rest of your weekend and see you all soon in the sand ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Drive Description The Tropic of Cancer is one of five major circles of latitude. The TOC crosses the UAE, completely within Abu Dhabi Emirate, for a distance of 337kms approx. in a straight line. While in 2016, Max Calderan has completed this crossing on foot, we will be using our 4x4's, which will be challenging enough as is Extreme explorer becomes first man to walk 211 miles across world's harshest unexplored desert - World News - Mirror Online Drive Details Level: Fewbie Plus and above. When: 18th Feb 2023 Saturday Meeting time: 7:00 AM (SHARP - Without any exceptions). Meeting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/9k8wQu8WrkNmwbNk8 In front of the mosque Type of Car: Any 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Offroad tools as per your level, plenty of water (5l per day), snacks, packed lunch. Extra petrol as per below requirements. Approximate finish time: 6 PM Sunday 19th of Feb Action Plan In this overlanding expedition, we will head out with our convoy and meet up in the town of Ghayati on Bad Al Mutawah Road: https://goo.gl/maps/9k8wQu8WrkNmwbNk8 From there we will need to venture Southwards towards the closest point with the KSA border, and that is our official starting point on the TOC line: https://goo.gl/maps/ngDp4GykpaLirFQJ9 (this would take approx 1hr). The plan is to stay within a maximum of 500m of the TOC line, except in areas where we would need to cross the road or go around fences. Preparations As this is an overlanding expedition, specific attention for recovery equipment, fluids, and car maintenance checkup will be essential. Furthermore, as we will be moving in a straight line mostly, we will need to avoid play areas or bowls, and save our fuel as much as possible. This drive will test your endurance skills and patience immensely. In other words, this is not a dune-bashing experience type of drive. Our end point will be in Al Quaa, near the border with Oman: https://goo.gl/maps/X6eyi1oHu1SvLeji7 As per our planning, this would be in total close to 500km, of which we will be avoiding tarmac as much as possible. In Day 1 we plan to cover about 240kms (from Ghayati to Madinat Zayed E45) of which 160km Offroad. In Day 2 we plan to cover about 260kms (from Madinat Zayed E45 to Al Quoa Town). Dear @Jesper Weltstrรถm @lucas amat @george charbel@Ben Lee @James Lovell @Usman Basit @Juzer Gandhi @Misha Puskar it was pleasure driving with all of you this morning and you all did a great job crossing Lisaili to Qudra lakes demonstrating great driving skills, patience, and team work. Together we experienced different types of terrain ranging from baby tight dunes, bushy and bumpy grounds, med size long ranges, small bowls, finally closing with the lavish green lakes. From staring crossings, long range sidies, arches, and even basic crest crossing and you all did very well with great coordination communications We also experienced the magic of self recovery using controlled gas and steering, shoveling, and rope towing recovery techniques.. With all of the above you covered on the itinerary you covered over 54KM in around 3hrs.. a great indication of how well you all did, Bravo everyone ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ a huge shout out to the outstanding support of @Davie Chase and @Fabien Monleau and the excellent second lead by @James Lovell @Misha Puskar I wish you speedy recovery and hope to see you soon on the sand along with the rest of the team @babaski I hope everything is ok with you, we didnโ€™t hear anything from you and you didnโ€™t show up this morning. 13. Dear Desret Knights Its time to take a ride in the dark where you will " see without seeing "and for you "the dark will become as clear as the day light " this is the ultimate training to all your senses to get sharp and focus , to the glimpse of light or whisper of sound , smell or touch of wind on your skin, while you drive in a convoy enjoing the wild at night leaving the taste for the brake time . dont worry if its your first night drive. in the breifing we will explain more about it . however its still worth mentionening for a reminder to come with full foot and leg wear as well as a good torch light to carry along whenever you step out of your vehicle. try to avoid nearby bushes so the night creepers too can avoid you. there is no need for offroad lights on your vehicles excpet the Lead Car but if you have them its totally fine. The itinerary will be a mixture of terrains and the route path with all of its challenges will be dealt with in the dark . please check your gear and car ahead especially recovery points, radios and safety flags ; any defect in these last three equal no drive. stay tuned till the action begins toward the end of the week. 23. Hi @Christopher Royare you sure the shop used the right type of break pads for the car ? I suspect there is a little bit of play and they are slightly loose, making them slide forward when braking. You posted this in the RS4 section. Perhaps the workshop installed the regular A4 brake pads ? (I would assume the RS4 has provision for bigger type of brake pads).

  24. @Looper got to tell me where to get a wash that includes undercarriage for 45 aed, that seems like a great deal.
    1 point
  25. Every weekend after all your drives are over bring your car to your trusted carwash and have a full wash. The place I go charge AED 45 for full wash + vacuum - they wash the under carriage and engine bay. I don't go to the fuel station anymore - but at the fuel station too if you ask, they will wash the under carriage. But sometimes they end up charging for a special steam wash - either way they cost more. I avoid cleaning the car at home or at malls etc., as they tend to leave swirl marks on the paint (not that all the sand bashing helps - but still) and it is economical for me to go weekly wash. For 200 bucks a month I have a car that I can pass it of as lady driven on any weekday. PS: once I was sold an undercarriage waterproof treatment - anyone else got it? Got it because of my inability to say no. But I am glad I did it because the undercarriage does get drenched every week.
