I only realized we were so close to the border when I received 3 text messages from Du asking me about my roaming experience (and another 20 from stc informing me about offers they have). @ChrisW and his winch saved the day, indeed!

Ah, Feeling nice and refreshed after a good sleep Thanks again @Asif Hussain, wonderful Liwa experience. We started around 7:30amm, near the black camel farm deflating and saying our hellos, before Asif gave the briefing and convoy order to the backdrop of what sounded like 1000 sheep/goats waking up and getting angry at the farm across the road. 08:00 we were all moving heading down the dusty track towards some verrry big dunes in the background. Less than 5 minutes in we needed to do a couple of refusal loops before we got a few more stops due to soft sand and high pressure. Once we got everyone deflated nice and loooow we started flowing in a smooth fashion pushing further and further to the south. The terrain here was pretty tight and had a number of small pockets to watch out for, which everyone expertly navigated. Lots of gradual climbs here, building up elevation from dune to dune... @Marek the official photographer got down to the sabkha and managed to take some snaps of the rest of the convoy coming down the giant slip face in formation! cannot wait to see this pic. Unfortunately at the first break we had to lose @nithish468 as some issues back in dubai needed his attention. Hopefully you made it home quickly and got it all sorted. see you again soon. We moved back into the sabkhas and kept pushing south towards moreeb... Not sure which part of Liwa Festival village was more exciting... climbing the massive 300m 50 degree angle dune run after run... or driving straight across the round-a-bouts in the village 😅 After we wrapped up playing here we aimed south yet again towards the buggy dune... where we encountered a very unlucky porsche that had been left behind for recovery,. we skipped riding the buggy dune as chris showed us there was more than a few large bumps on that face. Next stop was a quick journey across the flats where we stopped in a large bowl to do some sidies and have coffee. pretty close to the saudi border at this point (2.8km from my measurements) so we had really come a long way. We started the return journey pretty rejuvenated and made our way through a number of high and S O F T dunes where we encountered a popout in a very tight little gulley. Thanks to everyone pitching in (and chris on the winch duties) we had that tyre back on the rim and ready to go... Asif started looping some very nice clean sabkhas together with a couple of small dune traversals in-between, which meant we got into a smooth and fast rhythm for the drive back. I was starting to get low on petrol but we managed to ride it back into liwa village to avoid stopping the flow. Fun Fact, my fuel light had come on and the computer was estimating 7km remaining as we rolled into festival village 😅 I was just looking at all the convoy members this morning. Nearly all of us was our First, or Second intermediate level drive... so wow, we all did a great job pushing through that terrain with a minimum of fuss! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 nearly 100km of fun covered in 8 hours! Looking forward to doing it again next year!

Patch it up with gaffer tape (battle scars look cool) and get it to a garage to get the other issue looked at. With great power comes great responsibility (and the occasional great big bill 😂) Sign upto a drive and you will be fine after learning the trade. The day after I bought my FJ I got stuck on a beach in the middle of nowhere in summer and realised I definitely bit off more than I can chew and luckily car was driven out by an old man zooming past in an armada.

@Hanan With my experience with my dream car (Expedition 2024) I had same faults 😃 and on 4-5th drive I realized 2 options : either I leave my bumper in desert, or I'll remove it. After 15th drive with already modified bumpers I realize that either I need to lift car(which I don't want) or I have stop driving(which I also don't want) or find new car. Thanks to @Islam Soliman for black beast yukon I chose the 3rd option.

Hi @Hanan sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, this is often the result of venturing out alone and unexperienced. On the other hand, the original bumper on a Y62 would not last long anyways on most of the desert drives, including those with the club. It is mystery to me why Nissan sold these vehicles here in the Middle East without having a bumper that has more clearance and better approach angle. Anyways, if you could share some pictures that would be more helpful, because a dent in the bumper and a leak combined with stiffer steering are two totally different things. The dent could be an easy fix but leaks and stiffer steering sounds you got damage to the steering rack. Seeing it's a 2019 Nissan, i would recommend visiting the dealer first and getting more details from them as to what is wrong and let them explain in detail with a costs involved. Then based on the outcome and quote you can decide to let them deal with it, or look for an independent garage (there are many). And yes some are dodgy but there are many decent ones as well.

Hey Guys, Been a fan of the club and some of its highly knowledgeable gurus! Big Respect. As per my title, I got my Y62, before I could properly start with Carnity for a newbie drive, I took a friend of mine and went for a spin in the in desert, and the heartbreak happened, I damaged my bumper, not a huge one but yes there is dent, there is also a dripping from the right side of the front bumper, also I could feel my steering has become stiffer. Having so many traumatic experience with dodgy garages in the past with my previous car, I'm clueless what needs to be done now. I would highly appreciate some expert advice for me what should i do now.

This is based on the entitlement theory. You buy a 4x4 and assume you can drive in the sand with road response and result in expensive damage or stuck for hours on the first drive. I see this daily on Masterclass. This gets even worse very quickly with limited ground clearance cars like Y62, added with how Nissan markets Y62 sand splashing beast (with highly skilled stunt drivers) and owners break the bumper on the very first drive. I shared this fact and observation with Nissan Sales manager back in 2021 and his response was we know this and already informed Nissan but will take few years to improve clearance. Y62 is not the king of the desert, but it was made for shopping malls and school runs, to be very honest. It's huge, heavy, with electronic failure (diff lock & low gear not engaging) in the sand with limited ground clearance and an approach angle. Buying Y62 as a desert toy is a huge mistake. If you have Y62 in your household, you can definitely take it for a spin in the sand with proper training and still until Newbie and Fewbie level only and not beyond.

It is a lesson learned for me, that 1 second can make a significant difference. I should have turn right one second before the ridge ends. After the incident I was worried about HOW to bring the damaged car out, but it was quickly handled @JeromeFJ and @Mike M. by doing survey and deciding to arrange a route. Thank you everyone.

Dear Desert Drivers, Thank you for joining the drive this morning. Unfortunately, the drive was shorter than planed, but still, we had great time enjoying the big dunes area of Nahel. A bit of warm-up in the nice open dunes, a few criss crossing to get in the rhythm, and we were ready for some big climbs. As you all have realised, climbing is not just pushing the throttle. Assessing the soft sand, choosing the best line, the best gear, getting the momentum, maintaining the grip, all this is required when the conditions become difficult. Still the convoy got stuck where the steep exit route was becoming difficult as the soft sand was becoming more churned by the different attempts.. I walked back getting my car, and my 2nd lead, and we turned our way back. Then we had a nice section of open dunes and large bowls until unfortunately @Frans M had a nasty nose dive into a pocket, on top of a ridge. Engine oil was leaking. With a common effort of shoveling, and careful pulling, we managed to take the car down on a flat area. Then @Mike M. has towed him on the way to the exit with great care, while I was scouting ahead to find a suitable track. @Glenn W @frederic demolder @Hani crest king @khlief @Giacomo @Zulfikhar Naiyar @Deepak Eswar @Waqaɾ thank you for your patience and active support during the recovery. @Mike M., special thanks for the support, and towing the damaged car out. @Frans M it is tough seeing the damage to your car, I know you are taking great care of it.
