  2. As we have been respecting authorities guidance & Carnity COVID guidelines to resume desert drives with caution by keeping social distance and wearing mask at all times outside the vehicle Unfortunately few off-roaders have difficulty in understanding and abiding these guidelines. As published in the national newspaper of UAE, everyone need to understand that still there are no gatherings allowed and authorities are issuing fine for 10,000 AED for host and 5,000 AED for attendees. https://gulfnews.com/uae/health/people-caught-violating-covid-19-safety-instructions-prosecuted-1.1591381059748 If you spot anyone stepping out of the car not wearing a mask, please remind them on the radio immediately. As we all are in this together, so we all have to help each other to remind. 4. @VipinShetty I drive a Grand Cherokee Limited and have had to remove the front bumper lower facia and the lower lip of the rear bumper. I did a couple of drives without removing it and ended up damaging both. Not sure if the trail hawk also has the option to remove the lower facia and lip but if it does, please remove it before the drive to avoid damage. If it is the single piece bumper like the SRT, you need to be extra careful and use the highest level on the air suspension. Images below of what I have done to my drive bumpers

  17. I had a look at different models and tried them from a friend and I liked them. First, there is a big quality difference between the one from Ace and the real Maxtrax. If you want something that works and still usable after 1 time usage, you should go for the Maxtrax. It is more rigid, it can handle the load. The reason why you don't see them in a club environment in my opinion: - Expensive - You are with a group, always somebody to help you with a rope or whatever. The Matrax is ideal for overlanding, or solo off-roading. I came once in a nasty situation where I digged myself in with my rear wheels. After shovelling for 10 minutes and trying to get out, my friend offered his Maxtrax. What a blessing I can tell you. Don't be biased because you don't see them in a club environment.

  18. Great question. Depending on your vehicle I would advise starting on 13 psi. After last week's drive where we had a lot of problems because we had not done this early enough, we will stop after 45 minutes to check the levels and review if people are having problem.

  25. Everything you need to know about Off-roading in UAE from Desert, Mountain, Wadi and Camping As simple literal meaning off-roading means any terrain off the road, but it gets way too confusing as per so many people different understanding with not enough clarity. After spending 12 years in UAE off-road scene, I feel this write up will help many offroaders clear their doubts and explain a lot of intrigue details to other aspiring offroaders. Off roading is a way of life For a vast majority of UAE population venturing offroad over the weekend is a way of life, that you sneak away from your busy lifestyle and enjoy the adrenaline rush to forget all your worries and recharge yourself. Why and how do you forget your worries? While off road driving your brain has to process hundreds of instructions per seconds that you will eventually forget all you were thinking in the first 5 minutes. And this process continues for the whole offroad drives and keeping you super alert at all times to have the best experience every time. Offroading is an act of driving a standard, stock or modified vehicle on any surface other than the tarmac road. It can be on loose gravel track, beach sand, desert, dunes, mountains or in wadi's (riverbeds). There are several different ways of off-roading in UAE based on your adventure appetite from leisure drives with stock (unmodified) vehicles to slightly modified vehicles to competition level with highly modified vehicles. Off road drive Sand Driving This is the most basic and first step towards an offroading. This requires your standard road 4x4 vehicle with proper 4x4 and LO gearing or even AWD vehicle is acceptable to a certain extent, but not an SUV. All you need to do is deflate your tires to 14-15 PSI to gain more traction and increase the footprint of your tire to spread the vehicle pressure on a greater surface area. At first, learn some basics of offroading in the sand in UAE. Plan your entry and exit points carefully either by following offroad books available in UAE or by existing trails from wikiloc. This level of a drive can be done on the beach, desert or any place close to the habitat territories. In the desert, it's usually restricted to either flat tracks (sabka's) or easily passable tracks on the broad dunes. Dune Bashing This is the most common level of offroading in the UAE, where the group of offroaders get together and venture in desert dunes and explore the uncharted and uninhabited territories. This requires a proper 4x4 with minimum 8-10 inches of ground clearance and deflation of 10-15 PSI depending on the tire and vehicle load. This level of drive organizes in the desert having plenty of dunes to make your own path on virgin sand dunes. This challenge requires special skills of reading the sand and riding the 4x4 with precise control to continue moving without getting stuck. Self-recovery in the sand is the most important skill that every offroader should learn after the first few drives. If you are stuck in the sand, then listen to the instructions very carefully without getting panic. Get out of the car to analyze the situation and also to help the person who is helping you either by shoveling or by fixing the tow rope to your car in the proper recovery point (tow hook). Once you are out of the stuck, do remember to get out of the car for removing the rope and thanking the person. In dune bashing chances of getting stuck are very high and that's why most of the offroaders venture in groups to help each other with proper offroad recovery gears. You can join the like-minded offroad club freely available over Websites, Facebook, Meetups and Whatsapp groups. All you need to do is join a couple of few to find where do you fit the best, as every offroad club and groups are different and unique in their own ways. Some people do prefer private drives over the club and vice versa, check out the reasons here. Mountain Driving This is the second most common level of offroading in the UAE, where offroaders get together to explore beautiful mountains, wadis, and gorgeous camping spots. This requires a proper 4x4 with minimum 8-10 inches of ground clearance and deflation of 22-25 PSI depending on the tire and vehicle load. This level of drive organizes in scenic mountains either accessible by gravel track or by tarmac road to a partial extent. Traversing through rocky mountains or riverbed, do require a special skill that is easier to learn with capable offroaders. Similar to dune bashing, you can join any offroad club for quickly gaining the right experience with safety. These are the Top 3 off-road mistakes in Desert & Mountain that you can learn and avoid. Off road cars Depending on the level of off-road adventure you seek, you need a capable off road vehicle to make you a good offroader. Not all 4x4 and SUV are made equally capable and some are better, stronger and more reliable than others. To begin your offroading journey you can take your regular road vehicle if it's equipped with 4x4 gearing and LO gear option and also have 8-10 inches of ground clearance. Once you get a hang of this new offroading hobby it's always better to invest on a separate dedicated offroad vehicle because of several reasons: You can enjoy the best of both worlds: a comfortable vehicle for road and stronger vehicle for regular off road use An offroad vehicle will be limited to weekend bashing to prolong it's offroad usable life, as every offroad car require more frequent maintenance than the road car. If your offroad vehicle is under repair, you can still safely use your road car for daily commute. You can freely modify your offroad car by trimming bumpers, lifting the suspension, additional lights etc. You will be more comfortable in pushing the rev limiter in 20-40K dhs offroad vehicle than in 200K road car. Here is the list of best offroad 4x4 cars under 10K and 20K dhs in UAE, if you really get serious for offroading. After every offroad drive, you need to check your vehicle before hitting the road again with these post offroad drive car care checklist to make sure if your vehicle is safe for the road again or not. For more serious and regular dune basher, you should learn from other offroaders mistake to know what went wrong just before the accident. These discussions and feedback from seasoned offroaders will help you avoid the disaster and save your life and vehicle. Last but not least wherever you venture, please do not throw your trash or anything as it's a house of beautiful wildlife who get killed by eating plastic, tins, glasses and even metal threw as garbage. If you spot anyone doing it, please explain this to them as many people think that desert is an abandoned area and they can throw anything there. Due to this inconsiderate approach authorities are fencing lot of conservation area and also issuing hefty fines for offroaders littering in the desert or mountains. Feel free to ask me any question for more details or suggest me to add more valuable points for offroading in the UAE.

  31. Hi @Fayad Abdul Karim welcome to Carnity. I have gone through your discussion and inputs with others here. If I'm in your place, I will go with @Frederic route to try and tackle 1 or 2 issue - start from low value repair first and work your way up to see if you can live with the others or not. Even then if you decide to sell off the car, you can probably get better resale as it will show 5 problems instead of 10. Give your best and see how far you can take it - at least you will have a satisfaction of giving it a try. What might seems like a 15,000 AED fix from quick look, if you plan wisely you might save a big chunk on unwanted repairs, fake mechanics and unwanted parts, that every workshop love to throw in to maximize the estimate. Start with your point 3. Wheel alignment and go to 3D lazer wheel alignment shop to spend 100 in place of 50, but will get the job done in one attempt. Sit on that guy head and explain your problem clearly, as many issues can be spotted with those micro variance that mechanics might not able to spot it. Recently I had a loud clunk while hitting hard brake and mechanic guessed from brake cylinder to drive shaft etc. I went to alignment guy and they pointed that lower arm two nuts are loose and they cannot align unless I get those fixed. It was a 5 minutes job for mechanic to tighten lower arm nuts and it cured that hard brake clanking immediately. Bottom line, do not underestimate 3D lazer wheel alignment guys and go at the time, when they are free, so you can explain and they will use their head to diagnose. Then for point 1 and 2, get two opinion from good workshop, I can recommend these two shops listed in carnity business listing with 5 star ratings. https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-services/general-service-workshop/hot-wheels-auto-repair-workshop-r1035 https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-services/general-service-workshop/euro-spec-automotive-solutions-r1109 @Asif Hussain if you have any good workshop reference in Abu Dhabi, please share. For point 4, jerking gear. Check the gear oil level first. Drive the car for 30 minutes and then put in reverse, and engage the hand brake. Step out and check the gear oil level if you have dipstick. If its low, get it topped up. If its dark or brownish color, get it changed with gear oil filter too. If gear oil is recently changed then gear is running on its last leg and soon it will need a rebuild (Dexol in Dubai and Hoorani in Shj are your best bet for gear overhauling) or replacement from scrap (with guarantee). For point 5, when you get the next service done, check or change the spark plug as it maybe worn out or one or two plugs might be running with increased/decreased gap - installation error, if mechanic dropped those plug while installing. For point 6, 7 and 8, you can source cheaper used parts from Sajja sharjah scrapyard. These 3 businesses deals in Hyundai scrap. https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-spare-parts/used-parts-scrapyard/al-nejoum-korean-used-cars-spare-parts-hyundai-kia-ford-cadillac-r1106 https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-spare-parts/used-parts-scrapyard/jebal-alandalus-used-auto-spare-parts-trading-r1180 https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-spare-parts/used-parts-scrapyard/ali-abdul-jabbar-used-auto-spare-parts-trading-r1113

  32. Thanks everyone for your cooperation. Convoy will be published tomorrow. We have 2 on the waiting list so if anyone will not be able to attend please RSVP and let us know as that will open up a space for them. It would be a real shame to have an open space when there is so much demand at the moment. Thanks

  33. Welcome to Carnity @Fayad Abdul Karim As i am living in Dubai, i won't be able to give you good references of workshops in Abu Dhabi, but looking at the list of issues i wonder what is the current mileage of the car? and have you been getting it serviced by the dealership so far ? 1. AC compressor does not necessarily come weak. It might need a gas top-up. 2. I doubt if they have installed original shock absorbers as from what you described. 3. Humming sounds might come from inbalance, or worn CV joints. 4. Car jerks when coming out of (P)park might indicate your engine mounts are shot. 5. Sluggish acceleration could come from clogged injectors, airfilter, etc... 6,7,8,9 looks like typical wear and tear on a 6 year old vehicle. Do take care of electrical issues as these might expose your vehicle and yourself to serious danger. A busted fuse should not be ignored, but needs investigation. Most workshops will have their own strenghts and weaknesses in my opinion. Either they are good in painting (bodywork), mechanical, or electrical. If you find a shop here in UAE that's genuinly good in all 3 categories and is affordable, than you have found the holy grail Better focus first on the mechanical issus for now, and move down as per your priority list.

  38. Hi guys, Thank you very much I really appreciate the fact that my effort haven’t gone by unnoticed.... After last weeks drive I know that shoveling isn’t part of getting it this far is it @Vanessa8580... although I’ve learned loads, shoveling is one of those things albeit I usually leave this to other people at home... sometimes the sand requests me to do it myself... Special thanks to @Gaurav, @Rahimdad, @Frederic who have taken great care of my sand-driving education to go from using brute power (as far as that’s available in a Pajero) to smooth and subtle driving... Thanks to @Xaf, @Jeepie, @Javier M & @Ale Vallecchi for doing some extra training on cross-crossing which got rewarded with my first pop out and that sped learning up even more!! I’ve seen the growth from @Wrangeld to lead last weekend already which has really inspired me to learn even more! And was encouraged to see @Kalahari to have taken my efforts shoveling out his Prado serious and even buying an Xterra to cover it up @Colin Jordan looking forward seeing you drive up here as well as I know you’ll make it, hope to see you do it in the big car as that seems way more fun than the one your wife has... Hope to see you all next week!!
