  1. Thanks Richard @Wrangeldfor your advice. Honestly when I swapped the wheels from 20" to 17" with AT tires, the drives became much easier, smoother and can actually find traction everywhere. The pace on fewbie+ is just perfect for me, not sure if I'll enjoy it if it is a bit faster as I'm running on stock soft suspension. I'll have to try as it defers from Marshall to another or terrain to another..

I've done few side sloping on the slip face where the sand was super soft and more momentum was required which isn't a big issue.

I'll stay away from intermediate for the time being until i get my rear bumper sorted out, currently have a departure angle of about 25 deg, so I always slow as much as possible when exiting a steep decent.

  2. I'm glad that no body got hurt and the car came out with no damage. You guys already answered the questions running in my head.

Since I still haven't joined any intermediate drive, I would like to ask, is it much different than the fewbie plus drives? Is the side sloping done in intermediate (especially this one) much different than the ones we used to do in other drives?

After seeing this, I got a bit hesitant joining intermediate drives😂.

  3. Note that the 17" Wheels are from Braid. They are the only brand who made a 17" wheel specially for the Y62 with large calipers.

The tires are Bfg ko2 285/70R17. (These made a real difference on sand)

Clearance between the wheel and the caliper is soo tight. But never had an issue. Been to the desert 4 times now and nothing got scrached on the wheel.

  5. @Lorenzo CandelpergherI had the 275/60R20 before and switched them to the 285/70R17 almost same size as stock 33". And Yess there is a 17" wheel that fit the Y62, and that is from Braid. Pretty expensive but really the difference they make is huge at least when going down from 20", the BFGoodrich ko2 tires have an amazing traction on sand, but bit noisy on speeds above 110, not much but noticeable.

    @Rawad Bahsasthanks for the tip.

@Lawrence Muchemi led his Y62 excellently. I must confess I felt a bit sad watching him ride the same beast I used to drive until just a few weeks ago. The Jeep Wrangler is a beautiful car, but the personal sense of achievement one gets when managing to do some crazy stuff with one's Patrol, honestly has no comparison.

Thanks @Lorenzo Candelpergherfor arranging a midweek drive, it was pleassure driving with you. I just noticed you tagged another Lawrence😂, didn't know we have someone in the group with same name and veeery close matching family name😳.

I'm sorry to hear what happened to your beast, hope it gets back on tracks really soon. Managing such a car is reallu a pleasure.

When we had the first popout today, I switched off my car but forgot to disingage the traction control after starting it again🤦🏻‍♂️ I was feeling the car a bit sluggish and only knew what's going on after we crossed that steep climb in which you said "keep pushing keep pushing" I was actually flooring it but the car was losing power... I guess I would have noticed it immediately if I had my old street tires.. Something I need to be careful about next time...

@Islam Solimanyou did great today leading the convoy.

    See you soon on Sand.

  7. @Lakshmi Narasimhan, my question is do you really need all that much of light? I don't believe you might need them unless you are going on an extreme night drive and not sure if they are necessary. I'm currently running 2 high quality Leds installed on front of the bumper, they provide high lumens and consume less amps than the OEM halogen fog lights. And honestly I don't feel i need much more. My next upgrade will be swapping the combo lenses with Flood lenses for the installed Baja lights and add another Baja spot LED bar with 12000 lumens and I guess that is more than enough, unless you are tending to race at night. With the above setup you won't really need any upgrade to your alternator or battery.

As for my night trips/ camping with the family or friends, I have a 500W LED light bought from the gas station and that gives some good light, and i connect it to a separate power bank that i charge at home. I don't want to connect it to my car's battery as it will drain it out unless i keep my engine running.

  8. Honestly, I won't install a battery inside the cabin of my car . there are plenty of hazards involved which many people ignore. If installed correctly the chances of catching fire or exploding are less but more importantly the toxic fumes that come from the battery in which you and your passengers will be inhaling.

  9. @Gaurav, i just called a friend who owns one and been part of a team who used to rally with modified Y62s, he said that the force on the bolts of the pintle hook is tension force which is much weaker than a shear force that happens on normal recovery point. The other thing is that when extra pull force is put on the rear cross member it tends to stretch out and will pull the ladders towards the inside, this is a scenario that they encountered in one of the recoveries. He advised me not to use that pintle hook in tough recoveries...

  10. @Gaurav, you are right, just opened a drawing of the y62 chassis, there is actually no rear crash bar. It is as you said, the hook is connected directly to the rear cross member that is welded to the ladder frame.

Thanks for correcting me, now I can use that pintle hook with more confidence as I was always scared from bending it.
