hi Luke, for the ESC did you have to put a killer switch or thru thr factory setting? I found simply pressing ESC long wouldn't kill all the computer intervention, during side sloping it was very obvious, not even completely killed in 4L

i believe from looking at the other comments in the forums the 10 second long press will fully kill the ESC if you are in sand mode with rear locker on.

In BAJA mode the 'active rollover prevention' mode will stay on even with ESC long press and mess with the brakes if it thinks you are over a certain angle. Can be prevented with by removing the ABS relay or aftermarket kill switch...

in any case i have not noticed it kicking in unless im in baja mode or forgot to switch from 'normal'.

  2. price is about right. of course can negotiate on price and insurance etc to get a better deal.

The 392 and F-150 raptor R move into much higher price brackets very quickly, with the added extra power. However at the weight/price of rubicon / ram / tacoma i think the stats tend to lean in favour of the ranger (rubicon of course kills it in angle of approach but i think ranger is good enough for the dune bashing vs rock crawling needs here)

Nice that its also the same model (Thailand built) that has been extensively desert proven in last 2 years in Aus and South Africa. Its now a known quantity in the desert with the quirks well known. ( not having full under body armour... if u look at my insta you can see the full body plates remedy for this ). Lots of aftermarket build parts from offroad shops in au/za/th and a few garages here have worked on quite a few of the uae delivered models now to know what needs to be done.

prewired aux switches with cable butts in rear under the tray and engine bay makes installing compressors / lights simple enough to do at home.

fyi comes standard here with nice electric rolling tonneau cover.. which def does the job for me.  apart from bash plate some some pretty lights im staying stock this time around :-D

  3. Hey mate.

Just recently changed from pajero to ranger raptor. It's definately ready to go out of the box. Rated very good on the @Gauravscale of power to weight for desert play. Great clearance. Suspension is unbelievable when off road (and on)

My only issues at the moment are trying to find most comfortable driving mode in sand. I find that the baja mode holds the throttle a bit longer than you would expect when you take the foot off (to keep the turbos spooled).... Might just take more getting used to. Rear end can feel a little loose as there is very little weight over the rear wheels. So I've noticed a bit of changes to my driving style.

Using Baja suspension mode, 4H, sand mode with full time rear diff lock enaganed,  ESC turned off seems to be the sweet spot for me.

'Off-road cruise' set to 2kph with front and rear diff lock engaged will automatically crawl you out of any refusals allowing you to focusing on just getting wheel angles right and turning left right to clear sand. Let the truck handle the blip blip. Spent a weekend just making stucks to play recovery and was greatly impressed.

Only upgrades required is a thicker bash plate to cover the engine and trans as the factory one is like 2.5mm aluminium.

Price point to power and features I think U get a very compelling package compared to the offerings in other truck brands and the jeeps.

let me know if you want more info or anything cheers mate.

  4. Thanks for the fun drive yesterday everyone.

Was glad the heat didn't rise to much and we could enjoy smooth flowing dunes. We made around 75km across big dunes, technical dunes, long range dunes, and some sabkhas.

I have the average moving speed at 33.4 kph @Looper, so I think the high speed on the sabkhas helped move it higher 😅

See you all again sometime soon.

Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for a wonderful drive with a good mix of terrain, camels and @Luke K P that was Ale and I that saw the lizard. It was a good size and speedy.

Thanks @Stumpy for helping me with the stuck gear shifter. As you disassembled the top part it was obvious that the plastic sleeve broke inside, exactly one of your estimations of what went wrong when I pushed it into park that one last time. Your experience came in very handy yet again.

Carefully using the white plastic part I was able to shift gears and finish the drive. This was a good thing because Ale has said we were quite far from any exit point. This also gave me some long overdue practice driving in Drive because I have gotten accustomed to using Tiptronic.

@Stumpy - thanks for the Pajero parts guy tip. He has this part in stock and will only cost me 25 Dhs. Good thing too because the Mitsubishi parts department is closed until Saturday and I want to get a couple of drives in this week. I'll see about replacing that missing dust cover though I think its just broken apart inside.

Here is a fun compilation feature video of our drive on Saturday. If you enjoyed it please visit my YouTube site and smash the Like button.

Here is the raw footage with all the action, sound and commentary. Sorry @Luke K P the lizard was too quick to get shot of it.

I'm just gonna have to find a lizard of my own next time 😅😅 great vid

  6. Short but sweet.

Excellent final edition of the Ramadan series of short morning drives.

We started by heading east into Qudra desert through a heap of technical short and tight dunes. I got lots of chances to practice my three point turns in this section as couldn't swing the truck around 😅😅😅

We had a couple of refusals and stucks on the way to Cresent lake, where we were doing some nice quick pace ridge riding.

After a fast ride across the two long range dunes, we headed back into the technical section for a drive back on the path.

I clocked us at 2 hours 1 minute, covering 35km. Perfect timing from our leader @Looper.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you all again soon.

  7. Thanks for leading a nice Saturday Exploration @Ale Vallecchi

We basically headed in a Westerly direction all day. After spending the first part of the drive hitting some lager dunes and bowls, we decided to aim towards al fayah.

On the way we encountered a huge herd of camels including some baby Black and White ones.

Once getting close to fayah, we headed north and hit the newly fenced off section and after scouting around the outside of the fence decided to head back to the asphalt and head home.

Great driving by everyone in lots of different terrain. We spent longer time on bio breaks than recoveries which is always sign off a good drive.

I'm very jealous of whoever got to spot the lizard running away. 😅😅

I have us at 70km with average moving speed of 26.5kph. very respectable.

See you all in the sand again sometime soon.

PS. @Emanuel I hope U get Ur shifter fixed easily. Thanks to @Stumpyfor the quick field repairs getting the convoy moving again.

    Hi Team,

    Hope you're well.

Some brilliant information there. I'm about to purchase a Nissan Patrol, so would be great to know where to start and then I'll use the above to modify accordingly.

I also saw this, not sure if of use?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,

    Caldon

Once you decide you like off-roading,.. a bumper trim / different bumper is essential.

Hi Davie, many thanks for the welcome - looking forward to joining in! I’m Chris, living in Abu Dhabi, I run a company during the week so looking for a little social outdoors adventure at the weekends!

    In order…

Car: Jeep JK, Black, 2007 (manual/stick shift) - with various mods for offroad (lift and shocks, tyres, winch, lights, compressor, flag etc)

Experience: I’ve been taking 1:1 lessons in the Sweihan area, covering: dune crossing straight up/down, self-recovery, convoy driving (following), side-sloping and sand reading. All daylight only so far, and very early days of sand reading/driving. I have lots to learn!

Vehicle fit: I have two hooks/eyelets front and back, plus winch. I also have kinetic ropes, soft shackles, shovel, sand boards etc in the vehicle.

Comms: I have a radio, programmed per Carnity guide, and flag.

Briefing: Video watched and I’ll complete the next of kin/emergency info template before Saturday.

Again, looking forward to joining in and keep my fingers crossed for the weather…

More Abu Dhabi crew. Enjoy the drive👍👍😎😎
