Simon D
Dear Friends, i hope you all enjoyed the drive last Saturday as much as i did, you all did really well . thanks @Gurcharan Mehta for being an awesome 2nd Lead and @Beide Worku for keeping an Eye on the convoy in the back. @Sandeep Nayar, @nithish468, @Deepak Eswar, @Tareq Al Turq, @Mahesh_ its always a pleasure driving with you guys and i hope you enjoyed the self recovery training you had 😃. As the weather is getting cooler many tend to roam on their own in the desert which could be very dangerous ( always at least have 3 cars when you tend to go into the sand ). Always keep in mind the following points when you need to self recover: 1. once you realize you are stuck or crested , take a breath and calm down and make a 360 evaluate the situation . 2. Remember at the Gym we work hard to burn off some calories .... in the desert we dont !!!! we need to work very smart with the minimum energy expenditure. 3. check in which direction your car is more heavy and check which wheel dont have traction and plan your recovery accordingly ! 4. Shovel the sand only in the proper locations usually between the front or rear wheel until all the four wheels are having proper traction. 5. Engage the 4low and the Dif-lock some vehicle like Toyota have A-track or other technology 6. depending on your assessment you execute your recovery, either forward or in reverse with the controlled engine power and the right techniques ( like the blip- blip ) moving the steering right and left ..etc . ( remember never rev up the engine too much. in these situations as you will only dig yourself in even more and might end up overheating the engine or transmission that can cause some serious damage ) looking forward to see you all again in the sand ... cheers .... Mahesh_
Thank you so much, @Simon D for the amazing drive. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment, and as always, it had all the elements that make off-roading so exciting. We really had a great time! I also want to express my appreciation for involving us in assessing refusals and stuck/recovery situations, and for challenging us to think through recovery options on the spot. It’s a fantastic learning experience, and we’re grateful for the hands-on teaching. It feels like you’re preparing us for future support staff and I’m really eager to keep participating in recoveries, both for myself and for co-drivers. Thanks again, and I’m looking forward to the next one!
Gurcharan Mehta
@Simon D Thank you for the wonderful drive. It was very enjoyable, and as I mentioned to you, you are one lead who can make even Badayar seem challenging (thanks for it). I look forward to the IM next week. @Mahesh_ we now have it on record (pic is the evidence) i am shovelling for you buddy.... and i thought buying the 392 would save me the hassle :)... just kidding, it is always fun to drive with friends. @Beide Worku you have transformed your rig completely; it looks great, and I am sure you are enjoying the long travel with all the primary & secondary set up...
