@desertdude makes a very good point. 99% of parts shops in uae have no clue. The parts guys aren’t interested in cars. They just punch chassis numbers into their system to get their 2000 dhs per month salary and they don’t care beyond that. I remember rebuilding a supercharger on a MINI a few months ago. MINI dealer said the parts weren’t available from any source. It was a standard Eaton supercharger and I ended up ordering the parts from europe no problem. Then I needed the oil to fill it. Everyone was like, what’s a supercharger, no oil is not available you have to buy a new supercharger. I went and looked up the GM part number. Simple thing, available all over the world but even the GM dealers said either no such thing or not available. I ended up ordering it from America with no problems. Parts shops here suck. They just want to sell fast moving parts from corollas, Kali wali anyone who drives something different. Fast cash is all they care about. There is a big gap in the market for a garage who is actually into cars and actually wants to source parts.

The used market isn’t great. They really hold their money. You can buy a full size 4x4 for less. The only reason to buy a jimny is if you really want a jimmy. If you looked hard enough, you could probably find something with a Denali engine for the same price.

Buy a early 100 series Land Cruiser, for your bashing needs, its a buyers market and prices are crazy low. Just a get a decent and you won't regret it. Very little goes wrong in these. As for the Jimny although its a very good and proper 4x4 by which I mean separate chassis, low range transfer case and so on, and very capable for its size and weight. But it's pretty tiny and uncomfortable for any regular road duty. Look up the local Jimny club, they take thier Jimnysto Liwa too, get in touch with them and Im sure they will be able to answer most questions. Look for a used one. In todays market and climate really doesn't make sense to fork out for a new car when there are so many deals to be had!

I agree with Sri, but gearing issue is there in some cars only and it becomes known issue after a while that you can search and eliminate those specific models. Power/Weight and Wikipedia knowledgebase is king in researching your next offroad ride.

In addition to power by weight ratio, what is also important is the gearing. I drove a 3.8 LWB Pajero which would have a ratio of close to 100 hp/ton. But it would struggle like hell to climb anything due to it's fancy electronics. @Gaurav, I think you also faced the same issue with the gear ratios in your Patrol, right?

Real off-roader to consider in any budget (lower the year for affordability) Listed as per the priority - (From excellent - good): X-Terra, FJ Cruiser, SWB Land Cruiser, SWB patrol from 2012 onwards SWB Prado V6, SWB Pajero 3.8 (both require a bit of front and back underbody protection) LC100 (till 2008), Patrol VTEC (till 2008) Lesser the weight and electricry options the better it is for the desert.

you've been driving the 3rd most driven car here in the desert and downgrading to a lower car will leave you frustrated and kick you down again to the basics of learning to drive it in desert...

@Gaurav your new car falls in the last category. You should try it in Tal Moreeb. It might match the modified Patrols

If it's really a specific area wind noise bothering you then debug that area first as many times your mind doesn't read the exact source of the problem. My car recently involved in an accident where the garage has to change the door, after getting my car I was complaining about wind noise from that door. After 6-7 attempts, we figured out that half sliding window behind the driver was not locking properly due to debris and once clean and locked the window in its latch sound gone. Secondly, Pajero has a hole in passenger footwell that opens in the engine bay (firewall) and I have been sick of hearing my engine roaring and humming inside the cabin. I bought 10 GBP sound insulation sheet and just placed 1 on top of that hole and sound reduce by 75%. I still have 1 sheet to spare if you like to experiment PM me. Thirdly to actually debug the correct source of wind or engine noise, ask someone else to drive and then you follow the sound while on the passenger seat or back seat to actually trace the correct issue, while on the driving seat you will keep guessing and getting frustrated. Fourth, some tires DO MAKE LOT OF NOISE, google your tire decibel level rating to find out if its coming due to those. General noise type for you to figure out: Tires - constant humming and then deafening at high speed Wind noise - sharp whistling or gushing, link to speed Engine noise - roaring, but linked to engine rpm than the speed

As said, they really are 2 different beasts. If you really want proper sound deadening, it’s going to involve a lot of work. Whole interior needs to be stripped out. Door cards, seats, carpets, maybe even dashboard. Then it will all have to be covered in Dynamat or similar product. Then the interior has to go back in. You’re talking a weeks work. And it will add extra weight to the car. This will go some way to deadening road noise but the issue of wind noise will still be there.

In Turkey there are some Pajero`s using as an ambulance in winter time. There was one also in my city. I always found them too bad ass.
