  2. Adding to that forget all the driving aids and modes, learn to drive without them. So if tomorrow you have a car that doesn't have "sand mode" you'll be just fine. It's like rear cameras and parking sensors. I know a few people now who cant park or reverse a car if it doesn't have them. Relying too much on automation just makes you lose your own ability and skill. Very soon we will have people who won't be able to change lanes if the car doesn't have lane assist!!!

  3. Thanks, Barry, you have summed up very nice and yes Kamran when you join the "Absolute Newbie" drive we do the quite comprehensive brief for 30-45 minutes covering on all basics of offroad and your 4x4 vehicle familiarization session. Every 4x4 car should always drive in HIGH gear first and if you face any strong resistance or stuck then only engage LO gear. And yes no need to listen to the general public who swear that LO is the best, as every car is different and you need to explore all options step by step than believing people with closed eyes. 90% offroad drive should be in HIGH gear and 10% in LO when you are stuck or needed to counter some impossible situation or going steep downhill. Disabling Traction control is mandatory for sand driving, but not for rock climbing or crawling. In sand, the vehicle should able to spin wheels slightly to gain the required momentum and traction control prevents that a lot. You should also google and find out on how to disable your airbag (SRS) while offroading as in some modern car they deploy with a sudden change of vehicle angle, little proactively but it ends up with an expensive repair without having an accident or insurance coverage. Locking front / rear differential is only needed when you are stuck and you should never drive while front/rear diff lock is engaged. However, in a sticky situation or in a long hill climb you can engage the center diff lock that helps to distribute power equally to front and back without locking the differential gearing.

  4. For whom interested. Report from Al Aweer; It was big disappointment for me. I spent 2 hour there i saw as much car i can saw in 2 hour. - Cars are really in low km but 75.000km car looking like 200.000km car. -Steering leather is bad, missing/cracked interior parts. -Many of the car when you start there is warning on the screen. Most of the car i saw need costly maintenance after purchase. -There was 2 white E350 when i sit inside i said ok this is the one it was really clean but both of the car AC is bad. I dont know what kind of cost is there. -Most of the cars are sitting there more than 6 month even sellers are saying there is no buyer in the market. -Most of the cars have out of date tire, you need to change it for passing. Only i like one BMW 525 it was having 37.000km and it was really clean but i have doubt regarding the reliability of BMW. If i approach these car the way i approached to my old Cherokee i would immediately buy one. Some of them have AMG body kit some of them have Hamman kit, Brabus kit they are attracting you. I drove one of E350 it was very silent and comfortable car. Everyone is saying buy fresh from Aweer i am thinking buying a car used in Dubai is better than the from Aweer at least the first owner will finished all the maintenance required and price also will be down. Many of the shops are not giving you passing warranty. I can say they are open for negotiation first they are saying this is last price i will loose etc. Then when i lay down check the underneath they understand i am real buyer. When i said sorry i cant buy. Price is more than my budget, they start saying i will talk with my boss we will arrange it to your budget. What i am thinking is this place is not for a simple person like me. If you are someone who understand these cars professionally you can find something good and you need to spend all they there. For me i spent 2 hour and i was judging like is there any rust on the body panels, underneath and is there anything bad in the interior.

  5. Show me some crap cars that are fast. Here is my first nomination, Volvo 850 T5 estate. Totally crap and boring but extremely boring and fast. The police in UK bought a whole fleet of them to chase stolen cosworths on the motorway. Second hand ex police examples command a high price now due to their regular servicing, uprated suspension and brakes, and supposedly chipped engines.

  6. Well that's why the Darwin Awards were created. People die doing useless and totally stupid and unnecessary shit all the time, like taking selfies! Or in search for the next big adrenaline rush. Like those crazy Russian kids hanging of mile high towers with just two fingers and then one day they slip and end up all splattered over the concrete, sorry no sympathy there!

  7. Don’t get me started on Donald trump or his followers. But seriously, some people are stupid and natural selection takes its course and should be allowed to. 20 something people were wiped out by a train in india a few days ago. How much intelligence does it take to know not to sit on a train track to watch fireworks? If these people can’t breed, surely the world will be a better place. I gave up on social media a couple of years ago. The way I see it, Facebook is only for nosey people wanting to spy. And the majority of people only show good stuff on it. You think everyone spends their days on the beach beside burj al Arab? People rarely post real stuff. The people who really matter are the ones in your phone contacts who you can call and speak to any time. Some person following you on Facebook or Instagram who you only met once at a corporate event is just a borderline stalker.

  8. Well in India its a different case as I read a few people actually ended up dead as false religious and racial news had been spread via WhatsApp which just incited a mob for some lynchings We as humans can always find a way to fuck up a good thing. Like social media in this case. Now if only someone could get Donald Trump off twitter!

  9. Well we have today who have driving licenses for decades now and still don't know how to drive. Long ago I had a friend Bharat, educated guy, smart, nice job well settled, but couldn't drive for shit. But somehow he had managed to get a license and drove for many many years without ever getting into any sort of accident! Someone up above was truly looking out for him.

  10. Use 4H for regular desert driving. 4L is a last resort for when you get stuck. Disable TCS. No need to use locks unless you’re stuck. Join the Carnity off road club for the best off road advice, https://carnity.com/clubs/off-road-club

  11. This is a sad reality of today age that without realizeing what is personal andprivate vs what should be public information we closely keep going with the flow. Whatapp is for sharing personal friends and family private info - chat, pics, videos among the small circle than hosting a tech know how grop, hahahah Do you know that in India in one of the state govt forcing all whatsapp group admin to register their group with admin full details, so that they can hold admin if any whatsapp group is involved in hanky panky stuff and promote hate messaging for mass media

  13. I second you on that @Barry, it would be healthy to know the result of the advises shared on the forum. Sadly very few come back and provide any feedback. Coming back to the topic I have been quietly reading through the posts and trying to figure out what I would do in a similar situation. I did not have to imagine myself a lot longer in this situation as one presented itself on this weekend newbie drive. @Brette got himself a Crony CN888 and it was my responsibility to set it up. I am supposed to be the expert on this one. But practice keeps you perfect and I have been out of practice for over 18 months now. Who or which WhatsApp group should I approach now. Can't think of any, so I googled it up, and walla, I ended up on the Carnity page I had created almost 2 years back. It took less than 2 minutes for us to setup the radio and we were on our way. Conclusion from a live situation for this particular scenario, it helps to save information on such an organized website for even your own future use. As with time you might forget and that's a human tendency. Not saying WhatsApp is not helpful, but in this situation where I have been the one people look up to, I couldn't think of anyone who could help. Thank you @Carnity and hope people would realize the importance of sharing technical knowledge here for our real life situations for future use by all car enthusiast hate to see this information wasted between a very few people on a WhatsApp group.
