Hi @Panda82 welcome to Carnity and its offroad club. There are no charges for these drives, and the only thing you pay back is to pass the help and knowledge you come along. We all drive together and share the offroad passion in this community. Just bring whatever you like to eat / cook (bbq) with little extra to share and stories to tell. This drive is kid's friendly drive just make sure kids are fastened properly during the drive. All newbies: If you have the radio, please bring along and we will explain how to use in newbie brief thoroughly.

@BIG T. Actually @Gaurav bhai and I are from an era when Big T, Taimur ruled the desert and we were his students, kind of. So it's so strange to have someone with the similar name and ID to be now training with us. Welcome to your very own Off road club, bent tow points is sign of having a true Nissan, @EmVarlet and I both have bent rear tow points, @EmVarlet drives an Xterra and I drive the almighty, tow machine, my reliable Pathfinder. Looking forward to seeing you this Friday, maybe another legend in the making.

Getting to pick your own parts in a scrapyard is a good thing if you know what you’re doing. Helps to be on good terms with them too. When I was working in the scrapyard we would try to get rid of the old parts first. It wasn’t so much about being an AH, it’s just trying to get rid of stuff that most people don’t want and it’s taking up space. You still have to get the money out of the cars you buy for stripping and unless you sell the parts off it, you aren’t making a profit and nobody goes into business to break even. If someone was to bring you a few cans of beer or an ice cream on a hot day, that’s a game changer. Then they got to pick what they wanted.

Welcome @BIG T to Carnity and its offroad club. Your user ID reminds me of an offroad legend who I have met on my first offroad drive back in 2006 - Taimur. Hope your Xterra is GCC and comes with front and back tow hook, unlike the US spec...? @EmVarlet will be your special friend with another Xterra in the club, I guess his X is 2013

Maybe so, but the thing with buying parts from scrapyards is that you just don't know what you are getting. Sometimes you are lucky and a part lasts for a while, and sometimes you are not lucky, and a part fails within days, or as I have seen on occasion, within hours. It's a bit like gambling, really.

@Olivier Refalo you can still join the drive with anyone of us a passenger. You can drop your car at meeting point and we can pick up after the drive. We have done this many times before, atleast you will get feel of drive with an experienced offroader.

It might be a V12, I have a car with a W16 in the shop at the minute. Numbers don’t impress me. It’s not the number of cylinders or engine capacity, it’s what you do with it that counts. It can easily turn into a willy waving contest, mine is bigger than yours etc, but if you’re not going to pull the handbrake and drift it round the world trade centre like a boss, what’s the point? The smaller cars with better power to weight ratio deserve more respect. What’s the point in having a million horsepower unless you can use it on track?

Grumpy old man stuff aside, there’s no denying the S2000 is impressive for what it is, a small convertible, especially considering it was released in 1999. 250 bhp from a N/A 2.0 4 pot, hits 9k rpm reliably all day long. RWD, 50/50 weight distribution, handles like a dream. Broaden your horizons man. I love a nice burbly V8 as much as the next guy but there’s a whole other world out there.

depends.......! Most intelligent Automatic gears is much better than manual gear, they shifts in nano milliseconds. And 1.3-liter mate with auto or gear doesn't matter, it will be damn sluggish for real dune bashing. Just like Patrol misconceptions in the market, whatever Jimny you see flying on dunes are mated with 1.6 or 1.8L engine that fits without any modifications and RTA also accepts it as it from the same manufacturer and under same 4 cylinder range.

This is the location it supposed to be. At least i have it in our 2011.

As crazy as it is, the jeep grand cherokee is advertised as a real 4x4 but there is NO tow ball placeholders nor hooks in the back! @$@#$@#%@# . really stupid! I ordered a tailer hitch online, but it won't be ready for this ride. Let me know what you think. There are two nice tow hooks in the front of the car, not in the rear. I guess I'll have to pass this time around, thank you

Yeah not much of a closing by saying on I got it fixed. What was wrong? How was it diagnosed, what parts were needed and where did you get them from amd for how much. How long did this all take and how much of dent in your wallet did it create etc etc etc so on and so forth

I know and agree from where you thinking, but with mechanical parts usually look will tell a lot of history. As before this half cut, I got my Pajero axle from scrap that lasted a good 2-3 year with regular offroad use. Dealer needed 2 months to wait for special order and 3000 dhs whereas scrap gave for 100 dhs instantly, as it was a least moving item for them and they were very happy to find me a clean one from a bunch of 20 axles.

Good to see such educated and concerned offroad enthusiast who care to read and share the facts before the drive, which saves everyone time and hassle. Without the tow hook, I'm afraid we can't allow anyone on any offroad drive as tow point is the only place with which we can rescue you in case there is any stuck. Of course, we do have all recovery gears and equipment but without tow point everything is waste, hope you understand that it's for your own good and safety. Like @Rahimdad said check in the rear there must be some provision for hitch under some plastic cover, google how to open that cover and show us the picture so that we can advise if we can attach a shackle on that or not. Due to some family commitment, my family will be joining in later part with my Range. And just now I was down to check how to open that stupid plastic flap to access the front and rear tow point as I haven't taken my Range to offroad yet.

@Emil it will be really sad that you will not be able to make it. We look forward to seeing you again soon. @Olivier Refalo as @skumar83 said we do not leave anybody behind. It will be difficult if you do not have rear tow hooks, on my Jeep Commander 5.7 Hemi I did not have rear tow hook also, but there was a space to attach a tow ball where I could fit the shackles. Please confirm and let us know if there is any space to attach shackles in the back?

Hi Oliver, it would be much better to have a tow hook at the back as well. Maybe the lead can shed better light @Gaurav Regarding the BBQ, we would be ending the drive near the road and those who wish to join for BBQ can come. If you wish to leave early someone after the BBQ some one will accompany you till the road. Also, we have never left anyone in the desert. I am saying this out of personal experience when I was a Newbie in carnity.
