Trip report from a Fewbie prospective. We had 2 weeks of starting the drive with rain in the air. Last week was starting the drive in thick fog. This week was different, cloudy but hot. Thank goodness for @shadow79 nice work with the AC kept me cool. I found Friday prayers in the new mosque near Al Awir and headed to the meeting point. As there were no absolute newbies we had a quick brief from @Gaurav bhai and we were off to the deflation point. After deflation we were divided into 2 groups, newbie and Fewbie level. @Gaurav bhai headed the newbie group with @Srikumar in the sweep, I headed the Fewbie group with @Emmanuel in the sweep. The newbie group also had @Maxiben, @razeen hasan, @AKR, @Sharme and @Chirag S., my group had @Brette, @yogic72 and @Fuad. As decided 10 minutes after the newbie convoy starting we took off on the right side through some technical dunes with some really soft patches. After having 3 difficult stucks taking over an hour to clear we found an amazing stretch which got us close to the newbie convoy in about 20 minutes. Those 20 minutes were the best 20 minutes I had in a long time. Fast paced and zero stucks in those 20 minutes. But like everything comes to an end, we got a few refusals, but still managed to make it to Pink Rocks and meet up with the newbie gang within a few minutes of them reaching. After saying goodbye to @yogic72 we combined the group to cross Pink Rocks to find a point to settle the crowd for a BBQ. Thanks to @Sharme, 3 of us @Maxiben, @razeen hasan and I were able to witness the flying capabilities of the Wrangler. This came with a sigh of relief from @razeen hasan who had just taken his vehicle of the track to the side. Thank goodness for our brief where we emphasize how important it is to wait in a safe place away from the track, and putting it into good practice. With some heating issues with the Wrangler @Gaurav bhai had to drop @Sharme to the road side. We later continued our quest and came across a nice spot to settle down. With a couple of BBQs going on and stories and jokes flying while some of us had to leave early. The night finally came to an end, thanks to @Emmanuel for guiding us out. After inflation and some warm hugs goodnight we all headed back home with some wide smiles all around. what a day!!!. very positive. for me it really proved how important it is to listen to the briefings before the stay of every adventure. thanks to the briefing by @Gaurav @Rahimdad else i would have had a real serious mishap. as usual. the day started with a drive from home. this time i think its the enthusiasm that helped me arrive much earlier. started the day with a lot of smiles and great hugs. hatsoff to @Gaurav parents. they were i presume the senior most and the most adventurous couple we had. may god bless then with a very long and healthy life. thanks to @Rahimdad @Gaurav @Srikumar for all the efforts. thanks for the recovery when my grand lady sank. it was very caring of the trio and their efforts were amazing like always. thanks to @Chirag S. and @Fuad for waiting up until i inflated my tires. didnt even get to say a proper good bye, but see you guys the next time. every week we learn a lot of experience and paitence. the fear factor reduced a little more as the confidence factor had started to build along. it was a fun day and managed to learn the art of steering the steering. small slides n drifts happened. rollophobia and toppleophobia was there at times. 2 refusals and 1 sand bog. what more can you ask for when you had wonderful group leaders and a very cooperative co offroaders. I think this idea of having two different level drive on the same day, same timing will help a lot of newbies and fewbies at the same time. Nice thinking and good choice of area. I'm in with full support to lead or sweep newbie or fewbie drive as you advise.

Meh. It looks like any other modern SUV. There’s nothing special about it. Look at the Citroen Cactus, love it or hate it, you’ll look at it and say that’s a Cactus. Look at this new RAV4 and you’ll blink and miss it.

If any check engine light is on then it's best to get it scanned and post the codes here so we can guide from there...

Yokohama Geolanders ATS are quite on road and capable off road. I'm not sure about Bridgestone, but BF Goodrich are heavier. Yokos are made in Japan, and worth their price point. @Gaurav bhai who has switched his tires several times after loads of research has changed his Yokos for the second time which speaks loads for them.

General grabber are currently on the new Pajero but the nexen RO-HTX RH5 is getting great reviews and is very reasonably priced here. The previous owner of my car has Michelin put on, and they're an excellent highway tyre but expensive. Did you use pitstop Arabia to search for prices?

For my on-road Range Rover - Comfort is the best thing I love. For my offroad 99' Pajero - Best "stock" hill climber, I found after 5 failed attempts.

Hey Carnity folks, Need a bit of advice on tyres for Pajero. My Toyo tyres have finally been spent after 2.5 years and 60k kilometers. I've talked to a few people and they've said this is the standard time tyres run. However, i've been reading online and people say they have used tyres for longer. The guy who inspected my tyres said they had never been rotated which I was really shocked to hear as I've got my car serviced from Al Futtaim and they said they've been doing it every 10k. I just didn't know how to verify that tyres had been rotated. I want to get some recommendations for the best tyres for Pajero. I'm looking for All Terrain tyres (nothing specialist) that gives me reasonably support on highways and off-roading. I also wanted to understand how tread impacts the smoothness of the drive? What exactly should I look for? I went to Z Degree on ENOC and they were offering me Nitto and Yokohama at around 430 - 450 per tyre. I enquired prices at Autopro who said I could get Bridgestone for 520. I am looking for tyres that can give me at least 3 years, and also reduce some noise. Pajero itself is a noisy car and I would love if I can get tyres in around 2000 AED that reduce noise. The Toyo tyres became super noisy at the end specially with the vibration. Appreciate your recommendations guys! Hamza

I have also same problem in my car Caddilac CTS 2007. Engine is missfiring and the car is vibrating.

Also, although i like off-roading every now and then, exploring a lot of rocky areas, I'm not a every weekend offroader. So would ATS tyres really be needed for me? Future Tyres Trading, is it the shop in Al Quoz?

Hi @Rahimdad, would you recommend Yokohama over Bridgestone Dueler or BFGoodrich ATS? I got some recommendations from a tyre company to go for these 2 as both allow solid off roading experience plus reduces noise on driving as well. Also, does ATS stand for All Terrain? The guy at the tire company claimed BFGoodrich and bridgestone provides great off-roading plus highway experience, reducing noise significantly

I was a pro Nitto Duragrappler user, but recently converted to Yokohama Geolanders ATS and am convinced it is best for both on road and off road use. Got it done from Future tires, they have a business listing on Carnity and offer great service at reasonable price.

You should try in some of the hardware stores in the back lanes. There is a shop which displays them outside and it’s really hard to miss.

The old Pajero is a bit quirky and is not the best at anything, but then again it's cheap, reliable, and puts a smile on my face while driving it. I've driven many modern, premium cars, but i got annoyed at the smallest creaky noises from the dashboard or seats, while this one rattles on like a horse and carriage, but it never bothers me. The fact that i can do small upgrades and repairs by myself (old technology) also helps.

I work in a shop that mainly builds custom cars and choppers. Also restore classic cars and do some maintenance and repairs to everyday road cars. I mostly work in the office but sometimes I’m out in the shop advising the mechanics and electricians on diagnosis and repairs. Spent most of my life working on cars and it’s nice to go home with clean hands every day now. Perfect job for me, I get paid for doing my hobby.
