Dear @J J thanks for your input, may be Xterra will be better option than the TJ 2006 in terms of this price and maintenance. Let me get some advice from experts, am not in a hurry.

With lifted springs, bigger tires, offroad lights, looks like it's nicely used/abused (god knows) in the desert. If I am in your place, I would not buy this two main reasons: 1) US Specs 2) Already used in desert. Often YJ are pushed to extreme in the desert, so buying beaten up car with job loss story/fact doesn't sympathize me, as it simply doesn't check my all boxes.

I have a 2004 model. Not US spec. It is a brilliant toy for the desert. I would buy that in a heartbeat if the price was max AED15k. My experience is that this engine is rock solid. It has a brilliant power to weight ratio. Don't pay for the mods that have been done. You have no idea if they are any good for the type of driving you want to do. Be prepared to be driving a noisy, bumpy vehicle until you hit the desert. Additionally, I know you like to bring family and friends. This is not a vehicle where the people in the back sit comfortably (on or off road!). If you intend to bring your required kit, you will find that the space in the car is cramped and you will fast fun out of space. We drive with our back seat folded up all the time so we can get the equipment in (compressor, ropes, tool kit, shovel, etc all takes up sapce). On the cover. A canvas top will make this very hot to drive during the summer. We have a removable hard top and even with that the heat that refelcts inward from the roof is quite substantial. So make sure that the A/C is really working well otherwise you will fry. Open top seems a great idea until you are sitting waiting for a recovery to clear or you find yourself in a sand shower as you dig into the dune. Check the radiator and the fans at the front. REALLY WELL. That's the point in a jeep where you need to be sure that all the work is done and done well as jeeps overheat. If there is a modification there, it's worth a lot more than fancy tires or shovels on the bonnet (BTW that would be the fitst thing to go if this was my car. I do not want ever to risk a shovel hitting me head on because for some reason it came loose). Test drive it in the sand, not the road.

I have been hearing about Bronco since 2016, finally this time looks they are going to be out soon. Love the Ford research and """""""THOUGHT OVER"""""" designs, gizmos and engineering. Surely they have employed real offroaders than just a designer to make things look pretty. Super Duper Like.

Is anyone watching F1, whether religiously or as and when you feel like it? I have been following F1 religiously for more than 10 years. This year, given the pandemic is slightly different (weird). F1 is racing without any fans at the circuit. They have just resumed racing 2 weeks ago and I am not complaining. In case you are interested, F1 will be racing in Hungary this week (18&19 July).

I agree. Red Bull is Ver’s team for the foreseeable future. No space for him. Maybe Ver is too strong his team mates are all looking a bit weak. I do hope Albon improves. if Vettel wants to remain in F1, he needs some luck. Like how Alonso gets the Renault seat. It will be a midfield team for Vettel and if he’s lucky the team may get the 2022 new rules spot on and he will be in contention for podiums/ wins.

Yep , They are getting out two though .. one is this V8 and the other is an electric 4xe. They included the horses in both the ads as a jab to the Bronco:)

I only see retirement as an option for VET - if he is looking only at Redbull and Merc., doubt there is a chance. Redbull as a company targets young urban male , vettel was apt for them when he was the youngest race winner, doesnt make sense to bring him onboard. Moreover not a good idea to pair with VER either - he will thrash him and end his career.

Yes, I am glad that McLaren is doing well this year. Racing Point as well based on their race pace. Hopefully Racing Point will not be penalized by the FIA for being a pink Mercedes. The biggest question mark would be how will Vettel soldier on for the rest of the year and where will he go next.

I don't know have that much of knowledge of engines and mechanical stuff but from a design point of view they are all amazing! I'm speechless about Bronco 2-door and 4-door I think having a civilized version of Bronco which is Bronco sport is brilliant! It's a good product placement. So Ford is not only targeting heavy off-roaders but also people like offroad enthusiasts or cross country people or mall crawlers (The same way of using LR4). Yet it is still a Bronco. It may sell a lot in Europe. But my heart is with 2-door Bronco.

I would also go with what Gaurav said.. I would not even look at this considering its American spec + 195k mileage. Also a good condition hard top will cost you anywhere between 6k - 7k and refurbished maybe 3k-4k . Keeping this in mind there are many clean ones out there .. I have a friend who is selling his TJ 2006 for 25k odd ( engine / gear warranty and new AC system ) . If you are interested , I can ask him for more details.

When replacing the PCM, the key and immobilizer will need to be reprogrammed, because it is not recognizing the new PCM.

I used to be a desert wanderer in Northern Africa some years back 😊. That's a far away place. But worth the trip.

No wonder it was so cheap, tundras are very popular here and you'll be hard pressed to find one below 40 ish for a 07+ They do come in 4x4 just the one you are looking at is a 2wd. I think Jamez also had a tundra for a while and bashed it everywhere. Also if you like big vehicles like me have a look at the Sequoia ( station wagon version of the tundra )and the Armada both also 5.7 V8s very bowarfull and sborty also Although Sequoia holds it value But Armada is cheap as chips nowadays.almost throw away prices. Actually most big V8s are save for cruisers and patrols you can get a pretty late model in very good Nick for 25k. And they are mostly GCC spec. But rarely you'll come across a US import which is 2wd

I'm always willing to give new a chance. And hopefully with the twin turbo setup the low end torque and turbo lag issues are also solved . But still the mind falters with such puny displacement of only 2.7 trying to pump out 300 plus horsepower. Questions about longevity and reliability arise. Other than diesels never heard of high mileage and reliable turbocharged engines.

There should be a law that mandates all 4x4s have the same approach and departure angle. What good is a high departure angle when you are are going to drag you bottom.

To be honest I don't have much faith in squeezing out so much power out of a tiny motor via forced induction. First of all it's adds unnecessary complexity to already complex modern engines. Second when running at the borderline of its peak performance don't think it will last too long without big repairs. Thirdly already mentioned turbos and this environment of extreme heat and fine sand. Turbos run on very small tolerances. Any dirt or sand getting into the turbo vanes and it's bearings will just wear them away quickly and they are very few cases where they can be repaired and replacements are always expensive. Also I dunno why more people don't opt for super chargers instead?

I am not planning to get rid of my Jeep. They'll probably have to burry me in that. I would just add the Bronco to my collection

One of my neighbour is selling his Jeep Wrangler 2003 model ( AMERICAN SPEC) due to loss of job. I have a double mind of getting this. I would like to get advice from experts and those who are using the same type. The cost of the V8 Jeep woul be around 250 to 300k if it ever comes to the UAE. I would stick to the bronco and probably put a bigger turbo to get more horses from the 2.7 engine

All I can say is finally a car which is designed from the ground up with serious off roading in mind and serious offroaders it's target audience. Seems like you can take it straight from the showroom floor for a heavy dune bashing session with 0 mods required. Although how it wears in these hot desert conditions is yet to be seen and turbos are a bit of an issue long-term in this fine sand. But I do expect to see them in the desert here as soon as they arrive and if it works like it's supposed to, be massively popular too Obviously there are going to be issues with the 1st and 2nd year models as they step in real world usage a few recalls some updates, niggles here and there. Would loved to have seen a proper V8 version but Ford has save for the Mustang abandoned the V8, stupid decision if you ask me.

The fun part about sourcing for a used car are the plethora of options and luxury of time. Since you are not in a hurry, I am sure you will find another suitable car.

@Gaurav missing your punch line " ask the mechanic to give in writing ". Just on a lighter note 🤣 Frankly if the mechanic are just changing parts and waiting to see what happens , tell them to please stop. Tow your vehicle to another sensible mechanic and get your job done... will save you dirhams and time both.

As your current OEM setup is very close to Bilstein 3 Inch so I would suggest to go for 4 Inch shocks for various reason: To have an extra two inch of suspension travel when off-roading in tight uneven places. If with almost same size you are hitting bump stops, then choosing tad higher is better. I know old one must be worn out, but so as new will wear out in few years so to have a bit safety cushion is better for extending usable life. Last but not least if you change your mind to lift 1 more inch in future, you can do that without changing the shocks.

HI @Gaurav I have a 2007 Landcruise Prado 4L it has stock tow clamps and has been raised by 2 inches. I have a pressure guage but no radio. If its manadatory Ill get it before coming or will buy later. I have a first aid kit and a shovel but no flag.

The first edition is booked out - only 3500 units apparently. Then there is the WildTrak Edition ( Desert runner) - Seems like delivery is 2021 December - Meh ! - Will wait till the rich boys are done playing with it

Great. Now I have something to look forward to buying after 2030 after its been tried and tested by someone for about 10 years. I hate the Chotu, the Bronco sport version. Ford did come up with the Raptor which really I appreciate, Bronco will definitely win many hearts. I've heard they are also going to develop a Bronco truck and it might gets its own branding like the Ram separated from Dodge.

Unless its like the case of my Pajero, whenever mechanic misbehave and ill-treat her she never starts. NO MATTER WHAT until mechanic apologies and start being nice to her. Hope your TJ isnt so touchy and emotional, ask mechanic to backtrack with peaceful mind and he will find a wire, switch or connection that he unplugged somewhere to cause this issue.
