TRIP REPORT As always, the excitement for the weekend drive starts on the previous Saturday and by the time Thursday arrives, you just want the day to end asap and let the games begin. And when you share this excitement with like minded off-roaders it makes your weekend absolutely perfect. Everyone met at the Deflation time before 5:00 AM, and after a quick deflation and briefing we started moving towards the base of Pink Rock. @Janarthan was my second lead and he did a very good job of helping manage the convoy behind him. And we did have an excellent bunch of Newbies which allowed me to explore some of the bigger dunes which is mainly done at a Fewbie level drive. Well done @Christian Andras @Taha Elghuel @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @Biju Abdul @Heisem @andy_macdxb @Edgar @Incognitoes @marks After passing through Pink Rock dunes, we made our way through the medium sized dunes till we reached the pyramids which consists of some big and well spaced bowls, where one could happily push their cars. Big thanks to @Tbone for helping out with the recoveries and tugs. There was a big improvement on the recovery skills from last week and some of your tugs was perfect with the right intensity. It was good to drive again with my old buddy @Emmanuel after such a long time. Having him at sweep gave me the backing to do a bit more adventurous Newbie drive. Thanks for supporting the drive. Hope you guys enjoyed the drive and I look forward to seeing you next week on the sand.11 points

The One with Lots of Driving After a few weeks of getting to grips with the sand, it was refreshing to have some many kilometers covered during the drive yesterday. Most of the convoy arrived on time so we were deflated and ready to go ... and then had to wait for latecomers. That's a shame because what I am seeing is that most drivers arrive early these days so that we can leave punctually. Attention to detail is also key - the start point is where we start, not where we finish. After a short briefing (๐) we were under way. A great part of being part of the club is that drivers are encouraged, if they want to, take more and more responsiblity on the drives. So it was great to have @Chaitanya D step up to the plate in second lead and @Kalahari act as Centre Forward. It did not take too long for him to have to practice his new skill as our first real stuck of the day needed a tug. Once (un) @Lucky sAm was pulled clear we moved on. Getting stuck in some soft (soft) sand around Pink Rock also gave our last convoy member the chance to catch up. On the way again, we looked in vain for an area that was not churned up beyond recognition and while being asked to hold for a moment I got caught in a small pocket, which provided @Kalahari with lesson 2 of the day, as we needed to repair the pop out that resulted. After that it really was plain sailing. and credit to the whole convoy @Lucky sAm @Febin Frederic @Chaitanya D @Jolly Abraham @asifk @Najeeb Mohammed @Kalahari @Rinelle Sanaani for keeping going and handling the route with almost zero stops - until a short break to allow @asifk to cool the transmission of his Pajero. This was a great moment for a break as the sun was starting to fade and we could make our way over to Red Rock as it got dark. As the sun faded, so did our chances of finding playable dunes (it's a promise that next time we are in this area there will be more time in bowls and doing sideys) so we took the opportunity to do a little night driving. It is a whole different challenge as we found and with a challenging technicial stuck resolved we decided to exit and reinflate. In these conditions, with only 3 stucks that consumed time, we had the chance to drive in the sand for most of the time. It was good to see that some of the more difficult moments were handled well by everyone and where there were any issues, I have to thank @Srikumar and @Jeepie for keeping everything else that @Kalahari had not already managed. Big call out as well to @Chaitanya D. Excellent 2nd lead. Have a great week. Thank you for Flying with Club Carnity 4 x 4 ๐ See you soon in the sand.9 points

EVENTFUL ABSOLUTE NEWBIE DRIVE It's been after a while, we had an absolutely eventful - absolute newbie drive, lol. Everyone reached on time, but two didnt watched the the absolute newbie briefing video, so we all have to wait until they watch the full 15 minutes video. It's really strange to see people taking so much drive time and efforts for offroad drives with such a great enthusiasm, but do not read and watch everything posted on the drive thread. As we have started within first 30 minutes, we had @Mohamed Seidam unfortunate incident of coolant leak from the radiator. He has hit the front bumper with a nosedive, as he missed the right track and went little off-track by mistake. Then we quickly drove the car out to tarmac with leaking coolant, as fortunately we were very close and he got the cops report and recovery to take the vehicle home. Thankfully he has RSA insurance that will cover this off-road accident. Moving forward, I was blessed with @h1fny (Craig) level head as my second lead to support and hold patiently to go back and forth several times. @Neale Faulkner, friend of Craig drove well too for a first timer and accompanied Craig while being in the car at all times, important during these COVID era. @Kieran McKeown who has been absolute newbie and a new owner of Renault Duster had quite an eventful day with so much to learn on his first day of off-roading. By the end of the drive he realizes the power and limitation of duster and truly started enjoying the car after initial reluctant start. Glad to see @Lisa Pemberton growing up very well on her second drive and she did absolutely great through out. @Enoch Mbatiah patience and quick learning from Lisa trail was quite commendable and he did great too for the first timer. @Omar Shoukry did almost great with his Ford explorer and truly like such inquisitive approach towards offroading and yet trying to learn what he can work out with his Explorer. @Vineeth John Joseph did absolutely perfect as haven't had any issue with his capable Xterra. @Miguel Ibarbia being a first time with Carnity having previous off-road experience had smooth sailing too. I advise you to do the self-declaration on the next newbie drive so based on senior inputs you can transfer your off-road experience and get moved to fewbie drives faster. @Hennie Schoeman did wonderful at back without much issues or hesitation. Super thanks to @Mels Wolf in supporting the drive with complete focus, patience and precise control over each and every stuck and refusals. It's been after a long time, we have driven together but you have grown very well in this and develop a very good level head to shoulder the responsibilities, keep it up. Due to late start and continuous stuck and refusal in the beginning we have some lost time, but that's part and parcel of this sport to raise your tolerance and patience (occasionally). We had a good spin towards an end of what actually absolute newbie drive should offer to first timers. And hope you will enjoy your next newbie drive, with more confidence and drive time in the future. Drive safe with deflated tires and ego's to explore new heights of dunes and ranks at Carnity off-road club.7 points

Those who participated in yesterday's drive were treated to a masterpiece of wit and humor while getting the briefing across. It was an absolute pleasure being a part of your crew, Captain Richard. Look forward to be with you on your next adventure.6 points

Thank you @Wrangeld, @Jeepie , and @Srikumar for a nice drive from Pink rock to Big red. Great briefing at the start , we definitely felt we were back sitting in aeroplanes and flying ๐ซ. @Kalahari was kept busy managing the crest tugs , stuck tugs and pop out. @Najeeb Mohammed well done to join us , I was just telling @Febin Frederic at the start that you would be sad to miss the drive for whatever reason it was. Well driven everyone๐, I could not take any pictures because my phone was overheating (thank God it wasn't the car!) all the time and the camera refused to open.๐ค6 points

The Most Fun, Thrilling and Challenging Drive Today we were a small and fantastic group which was a great opportunity to push ourselves to embrace the new challenges. It was very technical and tricky terrain especially to Faya. @Shamil our lead did a fabulous job, i was very surprised to see how he had a perfect balance in the drive with lots of challenges and loads of fun too. It was a pleasure to be the second lead where i could closely keep an eye of how the leader drives and try to do the same. Half-way to the drive, unfortunately there was a technical issue with our leader's car. The second half of the drive in Faya was taken to another level by @Frederic where we had ample chances to practice and work on our skills on a different terrain. I had one or two refusals which was a good lesson to learn from and which will only make me a better driver. Luckily, because of such an amazing team and lead we did not use any tow rope or shovel. It was also nice to experience the last part of night drive. Lastly, a big thanks to our sweep @Vanessa8580 for keeping the team together all the way. Both the Pajeros and the Wranglers performed well, @Gregory Perkin was flying his Jeep smoothly... Thank you @E.C. TAN for joining us this afternoon.6 points

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.5 points

Dear fellow desert addicts. What a nice way to spend a Saturday morning (actually, late night and early morning)! Leading an intermediate convoy has the advantage that everything moves a little quicker (deflation, briefing, the pace of the drive) and with less idle time, also thanks to the fact that Intermediate and above skills allow the drivers to face any adjust quickly and effortlessly to any surprises that the track, or the leader, have in store for them. With this combination of readiness and ability, we set out from Shabiyat to explore and ride every possible group of high dunes between us and the Quad Rental location in Badayer. Temperature at 05:28 was perfect (low 30's) and the sand still relatively cool and compact. We lined up with @Mels Wolf in Second Lead, followed by @Tbone, @Michael sammy, @Colin Jordan, and @Javier M watching over the convoy in Sweep. We reached Super Bowl in no time, and attempted to climb it from every possible side. The inclination of its left side, the steepness of the center, and the super-bumpiness of the right side, all of them well dug with tracks left from the previous day's climbers, prevented us from reaching the top, but still warmed us up for what was to come. Therefore, Iftar Bowl was conquered with a certain amount of ease and flair (especially by Javier, who rode it from every side). From there, we went on to look for, reach through patches of enjoyable technical dunes, and explore, 9 more groups of high dunes: not all of them perfect "star" formations (for more info, see @Frederic's post dedicated to dune formations), but intricate enough to give us a good challenge while exploring their depths and heights. After only sporadic refusals, and no stucks, we exited at Badayer Quad Rental roundabout, after covering 49.8Km, climbing 854 meters (to reach an maximum altitude of 177 meters), and driving at an average of 22Km/H. (max. speed 61 Km/H), for 2:58 hours. PS. Considering this was my first true Intermediate Lead, I would love to receive the drivers' criticism (compliments I already received), particularly to allow me to understand if they were expecting something different (faster pace, more climbing, more playing, etc.). Any input will be constructive, toward better drives in the future. Thanks to all, and see you soon on a dune.5 points

If you are a leader, donโt follow the guy in front of you. Getting to the starting point of my own drive proved that, as I was following Sri who was going to his own drive. Still, we made it on time and got the convoy moving quite early, which meant we could enjoy the sunrise while driving into the desert. Starting with the jungle in the smaller technical dunes, I managed to turn Richards face quite green and we had to stop for a different type of bio-break. Finding some taller longer dunes meant that we could do some sideys, criss crossing and ridge riding, which led to a perfect sidecrest by @Jun Zamora I have to check my camera to see if I managed to capture that. Everybody seemed to be climbing Pink Rock without any problems, so off we went again on the other side where the sand was a little soft, but we all managed to keep going. Circling back, we slowly made our way to the exit point. We only had a few refusals and a couple of stucks, which were handled by @Brette and @Ale Vallecchi very swiftly. Thank you very much for your support. @J Jdid a great job as second lead and gave me the bonus of a very nice video of the trip. Thanks @J J, @Shiju Manueland @Febin Frederic for the pictures in the Gallery. @Lorenzo Candelpergher thank you for the trip map I will be signing off for a month as I am travelling to the Netherlands to visit my family, so @Wrangeld ;I am sure you wonโt get carsick and have lots of fun, please take care of my little car!๐5 points

@Srikumar I totally agree with your first statement of waiting for the next Friday, so now I assume that itโs a common feeling among all of us not just me ๐. Yes all members of our team was very good and I feel is the reason for us to have a good flawless 3 hours drive. I really liked one area where you had mentioned to enjoy mor. I think it was just after the rocks, dunes were so good there. @Srikumar this is my second drive with you and I should tell you that your a great leader making us feel safe while enjoy the adventure rides. @Emmanuel you were very helpful when I had the refusal and it was nice to see you always rush to refusal spots from our sides. overall it was a fantastic drive and with just 3 drives with Carnity, I feel good progress in my skills. I would say this drive made me learn more about right acceleration based on the dunes we approach. As you rightly said, I am impatient now to wait till Friday for the next drive ๐๐ป๐๐ป4 points

Extremely enjoyable drive! Thanks @Wrangeld for planning and leading - and rerouting when the churned-up soft sand impeded our progress. Thanks to you and @Srikumar for allowing me to learn new skills. For sure next time we can spend more time at Big Red, but this drive was exactly what I needed for a Friday evening.4 points

Trip Report - When things keep changing. The main challenge for me today was waking up at 3 am to make it to meeting point in good time. Was so worried I hardly slept. Moreover I checked my mobile to see @sertac would not be able to make it due to the late purchase of his new 4x4 which needs a service before taking it off-road. Thanks to a small group and good participants it was easy for me to do the convoy again. As soon as I started from home on the other side was full of police cars and an ambulance making its way. Came to find out that someone trying to cross the road got hit. May God Almighty help him to good health soon. I reached the meeting point early to offer my prayers and deflated. As I reached the meeting point everybody was deflating and getting ready to go. All except @Onlyjunaid who got delayed due to his blood sugar dropping. We finally had to do the radio briefing and start our journey without him. We had a brilliant time out, starting with the rains yesterday which meant the sand was not as soft when starting. On the other hand the bushes all over the place meant we had to be slow and cautious. We had a great play time with the sand hard and clean, but meant the dip gave a bit of a hard bump from time to time, although nothing so bad to worry about. As we made our way to our large play area I was surprised to see a clean slate as posted in the pics in the Gallery. After a quick play session we were off to the top of Fossil Rocks, with a smooth path straight down we opted to go down the steep way. As our convoy made their way down we were disturbed by a group, but a quick check with their lead meant we were all given a chance to descend before they took their turn. As we came down it was not yet 7:30 am so I asked thecgrouo and they wanted to continue. So off to Faya it was for us. As we made our way to Camel Rock we were again faced with another group which meant there was loads of traffic. I took the alternate quick route to Faya which everybody managed well. My second surprise for the day came to see a virgin Faya front face. We started to attempt the front face of Faya which was very smooth after a long time. Our happiness though was short lived as another group again took over. I was able to manage to reach the top through my cheat route. But as I was about to show everybody my cheat route only found @Veedooshee on top with me as yet another group just started using that as well. The highest climber to the top was our own @Chaitanya D with his powerful Xterra. At this point we headed out, inflated and on our way home as it started to get hot. I was pleased to check with everyone and got a feedback that everyone enjoyed. @Veedooshee was my second lead. First time for her to follow me and she did well to keep up the pace and a very safe gap. On one occasion she even helped me to reroute which really helped the entire convoy. @AviG did very well with his more than capable Prado and seems to be gaining mire confidence the more he drives. Follows I instructions well and pleasure having him on board. @David Ortells did well with his FJ and showed us why the FJ is considered as one of the best off-road vehicles. He glided through the dunes with utmost ease and poise. @Sreejith Sreenivasan surprised me with his LR2 as it proved to be pretty good in this terrain. At start I did have some doubts, but within the first hour of driving all my fears vanished as it took on the terrain with ease. I had a little concern when comming down from Fossil Rock as it did not have Low Gear, but the hill decent option helped me to decide in the positive. @topgear did wonders with his FJ and was not to be out done by any challenge. He held his own and showed us what one can achieve by following the pointers discussed and concentration throughout the drive. @Nivin did very well with his Xterra which changed colour as the sun came up. It was a magic car for me. I though it was black as we started, but as the sun shown down on us I realized it was a dark blue. He is a Fewbie and his confidence and steady hand at the steering wheel proved he deserves that rank all the way. @Vanessa8580 makes any drive fill up with her energy which is such a positive start for the day. I made a promise to her at start and I hope I kept my promise. A bright smile right from the start to the finish line, she is such a pleasure to have knowing she would be the first to jump to help. @Chaitanya D is an improved driver with his Xterra. However being my sweep today made me realize what an asset he is in that position. He has a very cool and calm demeanour and is very clear in his communications. His patience is second to none and that in itself is such a blessing to have in any position when you're off-roading. All in all a very big thank you to everyone who participated. A lovely morning when my heat gauge stayed in place throughout the drive. We did about 33 kilometers off-road which was amazing to do in 3 hours with play time in 2 places and the descent fro Fossil Rick which requires some extra time. Well done everyone, till next time I bid you farewell. Have a great weekend. My pics are updated in the Gallery. You can add your pics there as well for all to enjoy and get a hint at the special drive we had this morning.4 points
