Please remember that from tomorrow we'll start meeting at 6:00 AM. Nonetheless, please try to be punctual or even a little early, as we'd like to start the drive as soon as possible (it will start being light at 5:49, and the sun will rise at 6:11, so it would be great if we were able to move as the sun comes up, or even earlier). The meeting and deflation point will be just off the tarmac road. Please make sure NOT TO REACH FAQA TOWN, but to TAKE THE EXIT BEFORE FAQA: it's marked, on the map, and consists in a road veering to the right of the tarmac a few Km before Faqa town, going through a fenced gate, and continuing through some dunes first then a sabkha area. Once you reach the meeting point, please tune into Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). Tomorrow's drive will take place in a slightly less used area for Newbies. Nonetheless, we feel confident that it can be a nice and intriguing drive: follow instructions carefully and calmly, and stay concentrated, to find the perfect feeling between yourselves, your car and the terrain we'll drive in. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

As @Brette is now eligible to lead a portion of Fewbie drives, he will be in Center Forward position and take over the lead whenever he is comfortable of doing so. I have no doubt he will be leading us to nice dunes ! @Desert Dweller will be our trusty captain at the back of the ship, and will keep the convoy together and moving. Thanks and see you on Friday !

Hello, I'm happy to join the club, I have some experience on mud roads in Brazil, I've never driven in the sand dunes. I will be driving a Dodge Ram that has all needed details for the off road, also shovel, radio, tow cord, tire deflator... I will be going with my teenager son who is also excited for it. The 3.5 SWB is also good, but from intermediate level will need to pushed harder and you’ll have less power margin. The 3.8 has enough margin and eventually will run a bit cooler. @Wrangeld has recently bought a 3.8 and also did test a 3.5 and might be able to tell you the difference.

Chapter II : JGC .... we my wife and I had a dinner outside today and while in the way ( I am driving ) she asked me : did you adjust the side mirrors ?! .. I said Yes how did you know ? . She said : because I noticed that I don’t need to twist my head to watch the traffic in the mirror ( I also have this bad habit when I am driven by someone , keep watching the passenger side mirror 🤪) .i said I am glad you noticed it will be even better when you are driving . ... regarding the flat left driver side mirror needed to be adjusted slightly differently as the image is real and the coming car looks bigger consequently . Adjusted till I got the full panoramic view through the rear and side mirrors and bye bye for head forwarding, neck twisting and all theses thing that at least I and many others I believe were experiencing to compensate elimination or reducing the damn blind spot. ... no spots any more .... on the way back we switched seats and saved for her driver position 2 with the new mirror adjustment as well . wish you all good day cheers 😎👍🚙

2WD in desert not a good idea may result in flip ( no synchrony with the momentum that its trajectory can’t be corrected if slowing or breaking or turning ... etc ) , pop out tires ( too low due to intended 2WD ) and many others !

Actually I believe the other way around the more you slide your seat toward steering wheel the less need for turning you side mirror according to the video . For me I am having my seat max slide back and I put max the mirror can be adjusted 😉

With the summer coming closer, we will go a little deeper into the dangers of being exposed to the extreme heat UAE brings to us. During off-roading, some activities such as recovery work, replacing tyres, and dealing with pop-outs, are physically demanding, and many of us who are in office jobs are not trained to cope with this amount of heat. Luckily with the help of some basic things, we can minimize the risk of below mentioned issues. The following risks are identified: Heat exhaustion: Warning signs: A person may suddenly look pale. Heart rate will increase and the victim may complain of feeling dizzy and nauseous. A feeling of weakness is also common. What to do: Seek shade immediately and lie down, especially if you’re feeling lightheaded. Apply a cold compress to the forehead and remove extra layers. Heat Stroke: Warning signs: Heat stroke is a type of hypothermia where the body temperature is greatly elevated. If not treated immediately it can be fatal. Symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack, along with nausea, headaches, hallucinations, difficulty in breathing, and agitation, What to do: apply cool water to the skin and place ice packs under the arms to reduce the temperature quickly. Preventive Measures: • Sip some water all day long, rather than just when you are thirsty. If you are thirsty it means you are already dehydrated. • Wear light clothing that can "breathe", but also wear sunblock and keep your head protected with a cap or hat. • Some fruit and vegetables can re-hydrate the body even more than water. Carry some in your cooler. • Water is important, but too much water can be dangerous as it can cause electrolyte depletion. Limit yourselves to 2-3 liters per day. • When recovering a vehicle in full sun, limit your exposure time and take some rest every couple of minutes. Because you are focused on the task at hand, you might completely forget the heat and become dizzy and exhausted. • If at some point you feel unwell, inform your club members immediately. When driving, inform immediately over the radio so the convoy can be stopped. • Keep an eye out for your fellow club members. It is relatively easy to recognize above symptoms in somebody else. Let them take appropriate rest. Please do share your tips, hints, experiences !

@Mikhail Lukichev : I just got back from Musandam yesterday . I have prepared something that might help you for your trip. THINGS TO REMEMBER 1. Unclear about rules regarding border crossing with Alcohol. (Atana Khasab has a bar called Darts Bar 26.213723, 56.233832) 2. Carry a pen each to fill up forms at the Oman Arrival Hall to save time. They do not usually provide pens. 3. Almost all the places in Musandam use Arab Emirate Dirhams. 4. Save your and officials’ time by applying for e-Visa beforehand (Incase the online application asks for Port of Entry – Al Daara Border) 5. Not clear regarding ownership papers of car - Best if vehicle is under driver’s name. In case of vehicle under mortgage / Rent a Car: approval papers from the necessary organizations are a must) 6. For Oman Visa details: Use “http://www.rop.gov.om/old/english/dg_pr_visas_agcc.asp” to check eligibility for AGCC Visa (50.00 AED – Only for residents of GCC Countries belonging to selected category). Though I have been told that other professions which are not mentioned in the site have also been approved such as ‘clerical analyst’, etc. 7. Definitely take water slippers because the beaches have pebbles and sharp stones. 8. During checking Omani official asked me if I'm carrying any professional camera such as DSLRs . ( Maybe have to pay extra , not sure ) UAE TO OMAN Border Procedure 1. Drive on E11 towards towards Al Dara Border via Ras Al Khaimah . 2. Drive over one-way tire killer at 26.048322, 56.086789 and park vehicle at 26.049580, 56.088251 on right side. 3. Enter UAE departure hall at 26.049787, 56.087717 with: a) Passport b) Vehicle registration card Ask for exit stamp (mention clearly that you’re travelling to Khasab and NOT there for visa change at any of the counters). Pay 33.00 AED per passport for exit stamp (ONLY by card – e-dirham OR Credit card | e-Dirham card cannot be recharged from the office, have to be recharged beforehand) .Receive exit stamp on passports and an extra slip Pink-White slip (keep it safe). 4. Return to vehicle and move to 26.050195, 56.087695 and pass slip to official through window. 5. Park car at 26.051296, 56.087772 and enter Oman arrival hall in front. Carry: a) Passport b) Vehicle registration c) Oman coverage vehicle insurance d) Address of stay e) e-visa if you have applied for VISA online at ROP (https://evisa.rop.gov.om/) 6. Ask Omani officials for VISA form and complete the form (Carry pen each beforehand). Go to counter and provide passport and form alone to official. Provide others when asked for. Pay 50.00 AED (payable as cash / using Card). Receive passport with visa and extra Pink-White (keep it safe) . 7. Move to 26.051993, 56.088070, park car and exit car (only driver) and pass slip to Omani official. Open boot and show to official. Receive slip with approval stamp after vehicle checking. 8. Move to 26.054293, 56.088090 and hand over approved slip to Omani official through window. 9. Drive to Khasab OMAN TO UAE Border Procedure 1. Move to 26.051477, 56.087608 drive through counter with passports. Receive Oman Exit Stamp from the official (Free). 2. Drive ahead and park at 26.050336, 56.087269, and walk to UAE ARRIVAL HALL at 26.049790, 56.087411 with passports and ask for Entry stamp at any of the counters. (Clearly mention you already have residence visa and not there for visa change). Collect passports with UAE entry stamp and extra Pink-White slip. 3. Drive to 26.048406, 56.086474 for vehicle checking. Provide official with the slip. After checking, receive slip with approval stamp. 4. Drive to counter 26.048037, 56.086488 and pass the approved slip through the window. 5. Drive to Ras Al Khaimah. PLACES TO VISIT (BASIC ONLY) 1. There was a time in India in the early 90s when there used to be a single side view mirror on the drive side and that would invariably be folded. Upon asking the driver, he would state that by keeping it open someone driving past would break it.
