I was a bit concerned that this drive was going to be more of a Bushman's Trial than a Desert Storm as the last time I was in this area it was covered in vegetation. How silly of me, of course @Fredericwas going to treat us as he always does. It was a thrilling newbie drive, with lots of great play areas which gave everyone the opportunity to test themselves. The supreme test was the climb to fossil rock and everyone made it ....even if it did require some extra wiggle It was great to see some of you again, it had been a couple of weeks since I last drove with you and I can't believe how far you have all come. Hope to see you all again soon. Thanks again @Frederic, it is always a pleasure to be part of your convoy.

Convoy report for the Convoy 1 First of all @Sajit Modiyil and @siddharth maheshwari didn't showed up. It is definitely not cool to not show up for the drive you signed up. @Nivin couldn`t came but at least he gave a explanation. Hopefully your car is back to business This was bit challenging. Maybe more than challenging. Actually we started very good, we drove from Nazwa to Pink rock making some sideys. Few refusals and if i am not mistaken maybe with only 1 stuck. Once we reach to the Pink Rock area we start having issues. Area was full of soft patches. Because of soft sand cars start having issues LR2 had hard time to deal with the soft sand without a low gear and Ashok`s Pajero start making a weird noise. In this point we decided to take Ashok to 2nd December cafeteria to let him exit. While heading to 2nd December i found myself in a nasty situation. Right side of me pocket, infront of me pocket with a tree in it and my car facing to that tree. I noticed the situation at the last point and manage to stop before going in to that pocket but i wasn`t able to go back, one of my tire was up and my car was front heavy. With a brain storm with Richard and precious help from Rizwan we managed to take me out from the situation. On the way again we had couple of stucks, which made us got slow and when we reach to the 2nd December it was already time to exit. We all inflated and exited safely. @Rizwanm2 did very well. Thank you for being 2nd lead. @Arda Yagcioglu had his first fewbie drive. Once you change your car it will be more easier for you. @Ashok chaturvedi hopefully your car will not have any big issue and you will be back soon. @Jose Martin flawless drive. Short Report - Qudra Round About Today's drive was a triumph. I guess I could end the report there, because bluntly, we had an incredible convoy, that handled everything thrown at them excellently, great team work was dsiplayed and we practiced and practiced until it got dark. So, from my side, a big thanks. A few people get special notes (sorry if I miss you out - it's only because I was at the front!) @syed salman raza: I really hope you sorted out the clutch. Thanks for being so positive about it and taking the right action and not coming with us on the drive. @Malachy McGrogan: Excellent in 2nd lead - especially considering that you have never done it before. You left a clear track for eveyone else behind you and helped them keep on track immaculately. @DANIEL NOGUEIRA: Considering how many drives you have under your belt, your assistance today was invaluable and impressive. @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ: considering that you only got teh new wheels yesterday - great drive. It takes time to get used to a new car and it looked by the end of the drive you were really starting to understand the car. @Anvar Sadath Bekal: Firstly, nice to see you back with us after a long break - looks like you are getting back the hang of it quickly. @Jack Thomas: Well done for getting your space at the last moment and making the beast look easy to drive. So pleased we were able to drive you straight to the camping ground of your friends in Qudra as part of teh service. Try signing up earlier next time. Normally there is a wait list. @Sai Baskaran I know you were on the wait list for another drive. I hope that this justified making the decision to come on this. You probably learned quite a lot about recoveries! Please remember, once you are on the move - keep moving! @RAKIN KURIAKOSE that Pathfinder is doing well under your control. I think you managed almost without problem - unless caused by being a little too close to the car in front that slowed your momentum. @Sharooq Fassul and @Mahmoud Asar - you were a bit too far for me to see a lot of what you did, but i guess the fact I did not hear about you means that Jeepie had a quiet day at the end of the convoy. @Jeepie: thanks for leeping everything in order at the end of the convoy. It was quite a quiet day for you which is testament to the great driving by the whole convoy. We covered more than 40km on the drive today. That's amazing for a newbie drive so you should all be very pleased and proud of what you achieved today. See you soon in the sand.

If you use the stem removal tool, you would deflate all 4 tyres in less than 4 minutes. The link that you have posted needs to be properly calibrated and from what I have heard that after a couple of times of usage, people stopped using it.

Khatam to Faya drive Yet another chilly morning drive..which actually feels cool and fresh mostly at the sunrise time though...😉. It was great to see most of us nice and early at the meeting spot and even nicer to see that we have @Rahimdad as our flying sweep today. @Brette, thank you for giving me the responsibility of being your second lead today and I hope I did justice to the position. It was quite a challenging drive today. As we started on those churned up areas, I had my first refusal even before I could realize that the sand was soft soft and softer..and then thanks to @Rahimdad I was out of that pocket kind area within no time. Despite the struggle of a few of us, we all managed to reach up at Fossil rock and down within the first hour itself. We then proceeded nicely to the khatam area which was technical and also had a lot of cross tracks but very enjoyable indeed and, as it is I do like the colors of the sand in this Sharjah region. We did have a few refusals and maybe one or 2 stucks if am not mistaken but overall was then an excellent trip at Khatam area. Faya is a great region to drive around bowls but was definitely challenging for most of us as it is so churned up and the sand here as well is so so so soft. We did had a good start at that region but then with the refusals, a lot of struggle was required to get out of that area and thanks to @Rahimdad for showing us how it is to be done. And @Rahimdad did burn a lot of calories today but he is the superman ☺️. With that situation, @Rahimdad was sure that most probably the tyre pressure went up and indeed that was the case which was immediately by deflating to the appropriate psi. Our second attempt was slightly better as @Rahimdad took us to the top of Faya. Thank you for the amazing drive @Brette... Thank you loads to our superman @Rahimdad for really being a flying sweep, for supporting this drive, for showing tricks...and endless other help...Thank you... Hi everyone, it was a fantastic day to start with for my first fewbie plus drive which I had been waiting for and expectations were high. Thanks and hats off to @Tbone and @Emmanuel for such a treat in desert. Though my expectations were high, the experiences were much above the expectations and the efforts from the leader and sweeper and not to b forgotten , the CF @Biju Abdul were excellent. For me it was a training session in crisscrossing, in which I had bit of concern and could gain a lot of confidence in this drive. Even though we had a few stucks and refusals every one did a great job to end an energetic drive at the mentioned time with a superb sidey to end with . Thank you guys and keep cool and safe. Hope to join you soon in upcoming events. 👍👍👏👏👏👏

Dear Desertnauts. Time to get ready for tomorrow's drive. Please make sure you show up punctually at 6:00AM sharp. Those who will be early may start to deflate, looking for a pressure of 12-13 PSI. Once you reach the meeting and deflation point you may tune into Carnity Channel #4 (446.081). We'll start the drive heading in an easterly direction, through a first set of tighter dunes, looking to reach quickly the long, open dunes. We'll then make our way slowly to the north-east quadrant of the Qudra basin, through a mix of long range dunes and some lower, tighter dunes (we'll try to minimize this portion), before turning back to the south-west, to approach our exit point (planned to be the same as our entry's to complete our loop) through a final ride on more long range dunes. For many offroaders, navigation looks like a scary thing, and finding your way in the desert used to be a daunting task with old obsolete maps, navigation with sun or stars, and many other old tricks of crossing the deserts. Until 5-6 years ago, companies like TomTom and Garmin were ruling the world navigation software and hardware, until our phones became smarter and smarter, and nowadays there are tons of free or paid navigation software programs available which are tailored for hiking, off-roading, cycling, or other outdoor activities where you would like to record your tracks. In this post i will give some basic essential advice on how to get started with navigating by using GaiaGPS, which is an amazing app that allows you to: 1) Create routes at home via your desktop/tablet through the GaiaGPS website. 2) Use different types of maps like topographic maps, sattelite maps, to find your perfect route you'd like to explore. 3) Save and manage all your tracks, waypoints, areas. 4) Automatically sync all this data with the GaiaGPS Mobile App that is being used to record your track or follow the route you have created beforehand. 1) Registering for GaiaGPS account https://www.gaiagps.com/membership/ You can choose for a FREE account, which works fine for basic topographic and satellite maps, but will not allow to use them offline. The PREMIUM membership is recommended for around 60USD per year. The Outside+ subscription is useless as this is mostly for US based customers. Their Trailforks Pro App is very similar to Wikiloc. Once you have become a member, you can head over to Gaiagps.com, login with your account name, and have a look at the basic functionalities. I've posted a short video below that gives a small demo on how to use the GaiaGPS website functionalities. As you can see in the screen, there are many tracks i've recorded with my phone that remain saved in the website. You can remove these or hide them. The red zones i have marked are called "areas" where you can identify tricky areas that you would like to avoid. They will appear on your phone app as well so you can easily avoid them. Waypoints Waypoint, or pins, could be points of interest, landmarks, entry and exit points, or any place where you want to mark the location and save for later reference. They will appear as a "pin" on your map. You can assign a color to them as you like. This might be useful as you can categorize them. Next to the classic PIN icon, you can choose different other ones, like fences, skulls, forest, or anything that will help you in identifying the waypoint. Satellite Images Having crisp detail in the satellite images you are looking, is essential so you can create a route which focuses on the nice bigger dunes instead of the small technical or bushy areas. Gaia comes standard with the Mapbox "Sattelite with Labels" Imagery which is not bad, but the best one i have found so far is the ESRI Sattelite Imagery Map. Below you will find some information on how to add custom maps. The map called "WORLD IMAGERY" in the Premium version is the same as the ESRI Sattelite Imagery Map. Which phone ? Gaia GPS will work on any smartphone that has a decent GPS antenna built-in. In my case i purchased a separate dedicated Android phone which is mounted in my car that i solely use for navigation. This allows me to keep using my own phone as backup device. That dedicated phone has the offline maps downloaded on it, so i don't need cellphone coverage (no sim card). App functionality On an Iphone, this is how the app looks like. The buttons like "RECORD" and "PICTURE" are customizable, and by keeping your finger on it you can select something else you would like to see on the home page. The Magnifying Glass allows you to enter coordinates. You can copy them from within Google Maps. this button toggles between full screen or normal screen. The crosshair button is very important. Click on it once and it will appear green and bring you to your live location and follow you while keeping NORTH up. Click on it again and another logo appears, looking like two reversed triangles. This is the mode that keeps your live location but constantly rotates the map based on your direction. You can experiment with both modes to see what suits you best. I like to stick to the first mode because it allows me to see in which compass direction i am heading. The + Button contains all your other useful functionalities, like adding a waypoint, creating a route, download an offline map, or create an area. Once you hit the record button, the app will start recording your track. Once you finish, click again on it and select "Finish Track" It will then be saved. (and also appear on your GaiaGPS website once you have synced). On the bottom, you can see your trip details, open the list of saved tracks, or go to your settings. Note: In the settings you can put your units/distances in miles or kilometers (whatever you prefer). You can also enable or disable the autosync function, but better to keep it on. So as soon as you have Wifi/Internet on your phone it will automatically sync your tracks between the app and your GaiaGPS account (website). These things will take a bit of practice, and i can recommend you use your Gaia mobile app for a while on your daily commute and experiment a bit with the settings until you have tailored it to your own needs. Exporting Maps Most navigation software use .gpx or .kml files which you can import in Google Earth / Maps or any other navigation program. On the GaiaGPS website, and also on the app you can choose to "export" your track. It will create a .GPX file that you can share with fellow offroaders or import in the Relive app Adding Custom Maps Adding a TMS Map Source – Gaia GPS for the GaiaGps app users, the Google Maps like Satellite, Terrain, or Hybrid, are not standard built in, but can easily be added by using the GaiaGps website. This is the procedure to add for example Google Terrain. 1) While logged into Gaiagps.com, add a custom map source via TMS here: https://www.gaiagps.com/mapsource/add/ 2) Fill in this TMS URL to get Google Terrain: https://mt0.google.com/vt/lyrs=p&hl=en&x={x}&y={y}&z={z}&s=Ga 3) Give it the name "Google Terrain" 4) Set the Min and Max Zoom level on 4 and 19. 5) Click on "Add this Map Source" The next time you will login it will appear in your mobile app. Some other map links. DRIVE REPORT Another beautiful morning in the Fossil dunes ! With everyone arriving before time, we were out in the dunes by 06:20 and that's an amazing start to get 16 cars out in the dunes. With @Nitin Mohan as my second lead, we headed out to find a clean track between the big amounts of vegetation, and went looking for some nice areas to play in. And playing we did With only some minor refusals, we reached the base of Fossil Rock perfectly on time, and with some wiggling we all made it up to the top eventually. Courtesy to @Foxtrot Oscar for the encouraging words to get everyone up to the top ! I saw lots of smiling faces today and was superbly impressed with the driving skills, positive approach, and teamwork everyone showed today. A big thanks to @Pancho and @Foxtrot Oscar who both did a stellar job of supporting the big convoy today ! Fossil Rock never dissapoints and we will be back for more soon ! Enjoy the long weekend !!

Indeed it was nice lead by @sertac. we got the chance to do couple of sidie's today, but convoy movement was interrupted more often due to stuck and refusals. I think i was first to have a refusal on nasty angle, but it was all part of the game and good learning curve for everyone. good team work from all the members. special thanks to @Wrangeld for guiding us through the refusals and stuck, when we were head scratching, he made it look like a piece of cake. Hello Guys, it’s a short notice but i just notice that my tyre is fully deflated. My guess is I have a slow puncture. I defenelty need to check that before to the tyre shop before going to the desert and I can’t find one open before the drive I wish you a good ride enjoy !!

I am really pleased about this @Lorenzo Candelpergher, as I have watched your journey over the last months, probably in the same way that I feel @Rahimdad @Gaurav @Srikumar and @Frederic we watching over my development in Carnity [and look where that got me 😂]. I think you have been on more of my lead drives than anyone else which is why it so pleasing to see that you have been awarded this rank. Just goes to prove that you CAN succeed even when the drives are a disaster! You've listened to everything that has been said and taken the feedback and made the changes, improving your poise and capability all the time. I am delighted to welcome you to the seniors group in the team and look forward to digging out people on one of your drives some time soon.

Welcome @Jordan Cope to Carnity and it's off-road club, where we promote how to drive, manage and "EXCEL" with stock cars. There is no end to car mods especially power mods (been there, done that), but instead if you work on learning the right skills then you can surely understand if additional hp or torque is really needed or not. May I know your total off-roading experience? We have been getting these questions every time on every drive and you can still install chip, filters, exhaust, headers, suspension, tires based on tall claims and still not be satisfied - overtime. Every modification you do on your car will compromise it's reliability and leave you with huge learning curve where you will still keep wondering why I have installed a supercharger and still not able to climb as it still upshift at wrong time. Car manufacturers design vehicle based on years of research and data, which you and I don't have time and money to invest to find the clear winner. Second point, every vehicle has certain limitations based on gravity and physics - at least in offroading. With right skills and experience you can learn how to safely negotiate with these limitations to a greater extent. Example: Learn to choose a path with least resistance, Use gravity as your friend to climb higher than fighting with gravity - head on (which nobody wins), Correcting your lines of attack and riding by flattening the path when loosing momentum. Third, super modified cars are a huge risk to catch fire in extreme pushing and that's why RTA controls that to a greater extent. And even if you get away with RTA safe passable limits, then visiting your mechanic every week and leaving car for 6 days with mechanic for 1 day fun is not an ideal situation. Genuinely there is too little you can bump (10%-15%) in power without breaking many rules and wallet, so instead master your off-road skills and learn overtime to work your way up with existing hp and torque you got. Not only this will make you an awesome off-roader but you will go home with a great sense of achievement after every drive. Plus without any risk of reliability or additional expenses for tall claims that hardly delivers. Btw, I do drive stock Pajero, 3.5 with just a modified exhaust, that I installed after 2 years of driving. No chip, no filter, no headers.

Hi Jordan, Engine tuning in the form of chiptuning will indeed bring more power, but personally i would not recommend it if your car has done more than 100k already. Unless the engine has been rebuilt of course. The 3.5 is indeed borderline underpowered, but with a SWB they are luckily not that very heavy. When you want that bit of extra power, where do you feel you are lacking power currently ? - Climbing big dunes. - Overall desert driving / dune bashing. - On the road. Be aware that big and heavy tyres rob you from a lot of power. I would recommend to get the vehicle thoroughly inspected first (injectors, spark plugs, clean air filter), and then take it from there. I've seen many cars underperforming in the desert but when i asked them when they got their spark plugs or injectors serviced the answer was "never.... i only change my oil".. A cold air intake in combination with a less restrictive exhaust will help a bit too once you have verified if the engine, injectors, plugs etc.. are in optimal condition.

I hope you all come well rested and refreshed for what will be an intriguing desert drive . Appreciate the members who have clicked RSVP and waited till Wednesday to book their second slots as per the new request from Carnity which has been made with an effort to accommodate max drivers with a fair chance for all. Entry - We will be meeting at the start point off Al Ain Road near Murquab , preferably sharp on time and a few min earlier is always good for you to come to the starting point in a relaxed manner. Please ensure to follow the COVID precautions in place. Terrain and Drive Plan - Murquab offers dunes which are medium to tall, long range which never disappoint. We will first practice all the basics that will make you a better Fewbie level driver and prepare you for your progress further. We will try to cover as much as possible of the long range of the terrain in Murquab and drive towards the closest exit depending on the convoy response. Be mindful there are some tight technical areas in this region which will need your attention and finesse for you to drive with out a refusal/stuck. In any situation we will be there to assist and guide you to get out . Climate - Cool and Comfy, after all the winter has set in which is a fantastic time to enjoy the desert. See Up Close - Horse Stables, Camels , Gazelles and Oryx. We will also be close to a massive Solar park which is upcoming in that area between Al Ain Road and Qudra. As you all are aware, considering a long weekend we have a lot of drives scheduled during these days. Which means some of you including me will be doing multiple drives which ultimately takes a toll on your car. Ensure them to be in as good condition as possible. Please advise if there is any issue or you cannot join in well in time so that other in waitlist can get in.
